New this morning, police are hunting for the gunman who shot and killed a man in the east village on 12th street near avenue c. Tracie strahan is there with what we know so far. Tracie . Reporter darlene, we can tell you that crime scene detectives spent the overnight hours here on 12th street. You can see they are still active right now. Theyre taking pictures of evidence markers. Combing the street for any the gunman who shot and killed a 23yearold man last night. We want to show you video now of what the scene looked like when we arrived. Police responded to an emergency call, a 911 call of a person shot in front of 635 east 12th street where were standing. Thats where they discovered that 23yearold man identified as Elliott Caldwell who lived on this street unconscious and unresponsive. Caldwell was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Over the phone, police told me that witnesses describe seeing one man fleeing the scene.
