Police say they saw a drug deal between a man and a woman. They went to confront those suspects. After a chase, the man shot at the officers and hit all three. Officers returned fire and killed the suspect. The woman was also arrested. In maryland, officials now say it was friendly fire that killed a Police Officer during a shootout at a police station. Officials say a gunman started firing at the Prince Georges County headquarters on sunday. One of the six officers who fired back shot fellow officer meanwhile, three brothers are charged in that attack. Today in new yorks Katherine Creag is outside of a shelter now. Reporter darlene, good morning, lexington and 124th street. Thats where we are at the shelter here. Mixed reviews among people who stay here. Some saying secured ity is adequate. Some saying not enough. This is where a homeless man fatally slashed a roommate. Cases like that prompted the city to take action. Several reports say mayor de blasio has ordered the nypd to overhaul security at more than 600 shelters across the city. Will reportedly see more Police Presence. Its more about improving security. The homeless man we just talked with says its a good idea to have Police Officers involved in enhancing the security thats already there. Since ive been here, its kind of safe. Im not going to say its unsafe. The staff does their job. Security security comes in my room three times every ten minutes. So its kind of safe here. Reporter and about 58,000 people stay at shelters across the city. Part of the changes also include improving domestic Violence Services to families. From the people we spoke with, its really a catch22. Even though theyre going to lobby for the 15 an hour, theyre missing a day of work to do so. They say, however, its a sacrifice they have to make. This has been the center piece of Governor Cuomos fight for 15 program, really trying to call for what he calls a decent minimum wage. Now the union that represents 200,000 home care and Health Care Workers will be involved in todays rally. Theyre calling for new york to to raise the minimum wage to 15 an hour. While many people we just spoke with say right now theyre making about ten bucks an hour. Even though the current minimum wage is 9, its still not helping them. They say they rely on public assistance. At least for one woman we spoke with, she works seven days a week, two jobs, just to make ends meet. You cant make a living on that. I have two kids. 10 is not going to get you nowhere. The way everything is going up right now. The apartments, bills, kids, car rates, soon college to be. I need a little more money to work. Reporter and the fight for 15 got a little extra support in the form of an oped piece by attorney general Eric Schneiderman in daily news yesterday. He said, quote, there are many other industries from home care to retail where the current minimum wage is inadequate. It is time to send the simple message that all new yorkers deserve a fair days pay for a again, darlene, theyre about to board these buss and head to albany for the rally.
