From what weve learned from Water Utility workers, there are residents in this immediate area who are either experiencing no water, little water pressure, or both. The water main break happened before 4 00 this morning. It is a short distance from where the other water main break happened last week. It is less than a half mile away. The Utility Company just had a press conference yesterday. Suez water had announced crews completed repairs on the 36inch water main that shut down part of hoboken when it burst last week. This was just yesterday. The utility said residents may still have some water discoloration when they turn the water back on and flush the system. That is again from the original water main break. Now suez Water Utility dealing with yet another water main break on monroe street. It is affecting this immediate area. Residents are either experiencing no water or little water pressure. This, despite governor christie writing a letter to the president , advising him that he would tell state agencies not to help the federal government relocate Syrian Refugees. The governor called for increased u. S. Security in the aftermath of the terror attacks in paris. Local lawmakers, however, say the governors views dont reflect the rest of the state. What we are seeing is that new jersey residents across the state, whether theyre in Passaic County, in southern jersey, or northern jersey, disagree with the governor on this decision. Religious profiling was unconstitutional before the paris attacks, and its unconstitutional after the paris attacks. Thats what the people of new jersey are saying. The federal government here will pay an estimated 1900 per refugee to cover expenses, but only during the first three months. The baltimore man whose death and custody sparked widespread protests. Kerry barrett is in the newsroom with more. Good morning. Jury selection begins today. William porter is charged with manslaughter and misconduct. Hes pleaded not guilty. He is, as you mentioned, the first of these six baltimore Police Officers going on trial for charges related to the death of 25yearold freddie gray. His trial could really serve as a bell weather to attorneys on either side of this case. Gray, of course, the 25yearold black man who died of apparent spinal injuries about a week after an arrest on a minor charge by baltimore Police Officers. Porter was involved in grays arrest after he had already been transported part of the way to the Police Station in a police van. Prosecutors say that gray told porter twice that he needed a medic, but they never called one. The proceedings here could highlight tensions between black communities and Law Enforcement in a city that has worked very hard to rebuild after unrest earlier this year. Clearly, its an emotionally charged climate to try this case in right now, given whats happened both locally and nationally. Of course, hes speaking about the protests that were sparked locally and nationally against police brutality. The jurors in this case will not be sequestered. But they will be anonymous. Porter, a 25yearold africanamerican man, has been with the Baltimore PoliceDepartment Since 2012. His lawyer says hes not suicidal. Today, City Health Officials will get together in times square on the eve of an historic ruling that will take effect starting tomorrow. Police say Thomas Chidester lost control on a curve, caused that bus to overturn last night. 34 of the 50 students on board were hurt. The bus was bringing students back to radford, uva, and Virginia Tech following the thanksgiving holiday break. This morning were hearing recent rutgers graduate killed in a threecar pileup. Police say ravi naik hit a pickup truck pulled over. When he got out of the car to inspect the damage, an out of control van crashed into naik and the truck. His family is heartsick and stunned. Lovely relationship with everybody. The only thing we can ask is of all people, why him . You know, of all people. Hes the heart and soul of this family. Two passengers in the van were killed. 11 other passengers were injured. Ravi naiks aunt snapped photos of the scene, not knowing her nephew had been part of the accident. Today, however, a family of seven will relocate to paterson. This all comes thanks to a resolution that was passed by freeholders here in Passaic County just last week. Despite the governor writing a letter to the Obama Administration, advising him he would tell state agencies not to help federal government relocate syrian ref yaw ugees. The freeholders say theyll work to provide shelter and sustenance to the refugees. The world right now is facing the largest refugee crisis since world war ii. Were told it all started when 25yearold cloyd clark flagged down a cab in ozone park. Police say he stole money and a tablet from the driver after being told he couldnt sit in the front seat. Clark then allegedly tried to steal from a second cabbie. The driver called the cops. House and came out swinging a machete. We have children here. Children go to school early morning. Some of them walk by themselves. So its a concern. Police did show up just in time. They tackled clark to the ground and arrested him. Police are looking for the man who set fire to dozens of religious flags in queens. Cameras actually allegedly caught him in the act. Surveillance video showing this man entering the victims front yard on thanksgiving day, starting that fire, then taking off. Police say 40 hindu flags were burned. The people of hoboken dont want to hear about this sort of reporter indeed, darlene. We have new information from city hall. The Mayors Office saying the people in this immediate area, monroe street between 1st and 2nd streets, they do not have water. Then you have all these other people in the surrounding areas who have little water pressure. For a second week in a row, a water main break has shut down a street in hoboken. What youre looking at here, monroe street between 1st and 2nd streets. From what weve learned from Water Utility workers, there are residents either experiencing no water or little water pressure in this immediate area. This water main break is on monroe street. Its less than a half mile from that water main break that happened last week. Then you have all these residents who are confused because they have discolored water right now. They dont know if its from last weeks issue or todays problem. Heres what one woman had to say to us a few minutes ago. Take a listen. I think there needs to be a better solution. We need to be more preemptive. This is an ongoing problem in hoboken. There was one in the summer that was very problematic. Reporter and the Utility Company that provides water to this area, it had a press conference just yesterday. The Utility Company, suez water, says crews completed repairs on the 36inch water main that shut down part of hoboken when it burst last week. A water main problem that lasted through the thanksgiving holidays. As you know, darlene, the you till says residents may have discolored water, so be careful of that. Again, residents are telling us, who live just a few blocks away from this immediate area, that they have discolored water. They dont even know if its from this problem or last weeks problem. A new jersey family was forever changed by a deadly threecar pileup in bernards township. Police say ravi naik hit a pickup truck that had pulled over on the shoulder of 287 saturday night. When he got out of the car to look at the damage, an out of control van crashed into ravi and the truck, killing the recent rutgers graduate. His family is devastating. Lovely relationship with everybody. The only thing we can ask is of all people, why him . You know, of all people. Hes the heart and soul of this family. There were two passengers in that van that were also killed. Naiks aunt snapped photos of the scene not knowing it was her nephew that had been part of the crash. Northbound truck lanes here between 8 and 8a on the turnpike. Looks like we had a small tanker fire. It was out. Now its kicking up again. I think theyll be able to get that under control very quickly. In the meantime, the northbound truck lanes right now, the Left Shoulder and left lane continuing to be blocked. Believe it or not, the delays in those truck lanes really not that bad. Its in the car lanes that were looking at. We had some earlier trouble in the car lanes not too far from here with an accident. A singlecar accident. You can see the delays go back several miles from here. We also have rubber necking delays. Well continue to keep you up to date. William porter is charged with manslaughter and misconduct for his involvement in grays arrest. Investigators say gray suffered a severe spinal cord injury as van that made several stops. They dont know if they have discolored water from whats happening here or from last week. We want to show you whats taking place on monroe street. The Mayors Office is being told by united water that residents on this block, monroe street between 1st and 2nd streets, have no water. The Mayors Office telling us that repairs will hopefully be finished by the afternoon. This water main break is on monroe street between 1st and 2nd avenues. Its less than a half mile from the water main break that happened last week that lasted through the thanksgiving holiday into the weekend. We just talked with a woman who lives a few blocks away. This morning. Take a listen. Theres like its like off color, yeah. Do you think its from the first water main break last week or this one happening now . I think its from this one. Reporter and the Utility Company that handled last weeks water main break had a press conference just yesterday saying crews completed repairs on the 36inch water main that shut down part of hoboken when it burst last week. That utility says residents may still have water discoloration when they turn their water back on and flush the system. As for the water main break thats happening right now, also disrupting water for these people here on monroe street and also apparently changing the color of the water for residents in just even a few blocks away. He stole money and a tablet from the driver after being told he couldnt sit in the front seat. Clark then allegedly targeted a second driver who called for backup. When the first driver showed up to get his things, clark ran into a house and camemachete. We have children here. Some of them walk by themselves. Its a concern. That family of seven will arrive here in paterson despite the objections of governor christie, whose opposition was so strong, local Lawmakers Said he was overstepping his authority. More than 7 Million People have fled syria because of the refugee crisis. Its a resolution that relocated him that was passed by the Passaic County freeholders just last week. It came despite governor christie penning a letter to president obama, advising him he would not support the relocation of Syrian Refugees here. He was voicing concerns about security. The freeholders here in Passaic County say theyll work to provide shelter and sustenance to refugee families. What were seeing is that new state, whether theyre in Passaic County, southern jersey, or northern jersey, disagree with the governor on this decision. You know, religious profiling was unconstitutional before the paris attacks, and its unconstitutional after the paris attacks. And that is what the people of new jersey are saying. Reporter the federal government is paying an estimated 1900 per refugee to cover expenses during the first three months. The rest of that will be subsidized by private groups.
