Happened in fair lawn in Bergen County. The house is on Berkshire Road. Today in new yorks Tracie Strahan is here with the very latest. Tracie . Reporter michael, theyre still shining lights on that home after that fire that broke out here just before midnight. Were going to go ahead and show you some video of smoke billowing from the second floor bedroom of this home on Berkshire Road around that time. There were several neighboring departments who assisted in all of this. We are now working to confirm reports that two people were killed here. Three people possibly injured. We do confirm that one of those injured was a Police Officer from the fair lawn department. We checked in with them. They say the officer suffered a minor injury here. Now a search of this address shows that this is the alliance against homelessness of Bergen County. They bill themselves as Supportive Housing for Homeless Individuals or people with Mental Illness and issues of addiction. Now, again, were working to confirm reports of fatalities in this, but i can confirm to you, michael, that the Bergen County Prosecutors Office is in charge of this. We have seen them going in and out of this home that thankfully at the bottom is all brick so that structure still sound at this point. Turkey confirms it did shoot down the russian war plane today saying this plane violated turkish air space and ignored the warnings. Ten warnings they say in a span of five minutes. Theres also video that shows one of the pilots pair a chuting to the ground. Another one still coming down. Then shoeldering wreckage of the plane on the top of a mountain side. Russia is denying that their plane crossed the Syrian Border into turkish skies. Russias Defense Ministry issuing a statement saying theyre looking into the cause of a crash and reiterated their position that the jet was actually over syrian territory they also say that they hadnt heard from either pilot since but theyre using helicopters, too, we understand to search for them. Russia says they believe the jet was downed by artillery fire. Turkey says one of its f15s fired after it ignored its repeated warnings. We will check back with you soon. Kerry barrett, thank you. Reporter darlene, we were able to uncover this address on Berkshire Road actually belongs to a home for the alliance against homelessness in Bergen County. They offer supportive services. Theyre like a group home for people with Mental Illnesses or issues of addiction. They were helped with this fire from people from neighboring departments. All much this happening before midnight on Berkshire Road. Its unclear how many alarms this fire was. Its pretty clear it happened in the second floor bedroom. Were working to confirm reports Bergen County Prosecutors Office is in charge of this investigation. Now that the flames are under control we did see smoke shooting out of that second floor bedroom. There were reports of people being rescued from the top of this building, specifically the roof of it. I was able to uncover that a Bergen County Police Officer from fair lawn, he was injured as a result of trying to help someone here. Thats something the department confirmed. Also new this morning, police need your help finding a robber who threatened to set an mta token booth clerk on fire or a booth on fire with the worker inside. Police say this man slipped a note to the worker with the prospect avenue train station saturday night. The note demanded money. It threatened to burn her alive. The clerk said she saw liquid in the money tray and a lighter in the suspects hand. She quickly blocked that window and then hit the emergency button. That scared the man off. New video of not only the plane coming down but video now of the search for the two pilots. Turkish f16s shot down a russian war plane after it said that that plane had ignored repeated warnings. There it is coming down right now. Ten warnings they say in five minutes to turn back. That it had crossed the Syrian Border and flown into turkish air space. Now russia says that plane was never in turkish territory. It says its looking into the circumstances around the crash. They are saying that it was syrian territory. Tracie. Reporter darlene, were now hearing from the director of the alliance against homelessness in Bergen County that runs what was a group home on Berkshire Road. That person saying that two people died inside of this home. Others were inside at the time when flames broke out just before midnight. We have video of thick, black smoke billowing from a second floor bedroom before midnight when all of this was happening. Several area departments aided in the operation here. We spoke off camera to a fair lawn Police Officer. He says that one of their officers actually tried to rescue someone on the roof of this home when all of this was going on. Very chaotic scene. I did reach out to Fair Lawn Police department. They told me that one of their officers actually did suffer a minor injury as a result of this. Its unclear how many people were inside of the home at the time, but we can tell you, darlene, Bergen County Prosecutors Office now in charge of this investigation as the alliance against homelessness that helps people with Mental Illness or addiction issues says that two people that lived in the home on Berkshire Road were killed here today. They were pursuing a suspect and apparently they crashed and now were in a 1024 with a 1034, the person trapped. Investigators have not released that persons name and they have not said how fast the van was going. The two suspects involved were seriously hurt.
