Police told me over the phone that the victim has been transferred to methodist hospital. Heal was originally taken to kings county hospital after the attack here. Concern is growing this morning as to whether or not he was targeted here on Eastern Parkway. This as were hearing the frightening moment he radioed in his own call for help. Ive been stabbed. Reporter thats the call he made around 8 30 last night. The victim is a worker for hatzolah, a group of volunteer Emergency Responders that serve predominantly jewish communities. He actually had his radio on him as he was walking on Eastern Parkway all by himself. Authorities swarmed the area after that man reported feeling pain in his upper right shoulder. He suffered a two to threeinch attacked him and then took off, heading eastbound on Eastern Parkway. So far, police are not calling this a hate crime, but those who saw the aftermath of the attack last night arent so sure. Im actually from israel. I was born there. With whats going on in the world, its scary. Walking on the street, and somebody gets stabbed. Reporter so far, a weapon has not been recovered in this attack. Police did search for it last night. Police are trying to figure out why a man slashed two other men police carried out evidence bags from the ralph avenue subway station. Investigators say a 29yearold man used a box cutter similar to this one to slash two men on the head while on the c train. The unprovoked attack does have some subway riders worried. The sister of the other victim updated everyone online saying he was in stable condition. As for the suspect, hes also in the hospital being evaluated. Hes been an mta bus driver for 15 years. Hes now suspended without pay. The victim, carol bell, is seen on Surveillance Video pushing her walker across fulton street when the mta bus makes a turn. Police say the bus driver hit the 70yearold woman, stopped for a few seconds, but then he drove away. Some witnesses believe the driver knew he hit someone, but a friend of the driver says otherwise. I dont know how this tragedy happened. I believe him when he say he aint see the person. A new york congressman is on a mission to honor two assassinated nypd officers. Its been almost a year since the officers were gunned down as they sat in their patrol car in brooklyn. To remember their sacrifice, congressman hah keen keem jeffries wants to rename the Community Center in the area. And filmmaker Quentin Tarantino speaking out saying hes not a cop hater. Last month, tarantino marched with hundreds of others in a demonstration against Police Brutality. Unions across the country called for a boy kotd of his movies. Yesterday tarantino defended ed ed himself, saying Police Brutality is a problem. Happening today, investigators are expected to announce that the Police Officer who was found shot to death in illinois committed suicide. They say the fox lake lieutenant was found dead shortly after calling for backup. That was in september. The 52yearold claimed over the radio he was pursuing three suspicious men. Its been more than a year since Robin Williams took his own life. This morning his widow is opening up, revealing she doesnt believe depression is what led him to suicide. Kerry barrett is here with what she has said. His wife susan has been pretty much silent about his death. She said she needed the last year to figure out why he died and figure out what happened. In one of her first interviews since losing Robin Williams, susan shared with People Magazine that he suffered from a debilitating brain disease called diffuse louis body dementia dementia. Its freakily misdiagnosed, but its the second most common neurodegenerative dementia. It causes fluctuation in mental status, anxiety, hallucinations and impaired motor function. She said it started to take its toll in the year before he died, but they didnt know what it was. He had crippling anxiety attacks, muscle rigidity, and what she described as a miscalculation with a door that left his head bloodied. She said the symptoms present themselves like a pinball machine. You dont know exactly what youre looking at. And despite having the very best doctors, she said they werent able to figure out what was happening to him until the autopsy. She said, ive spent the last year trying to find out what killed robin, to understand what we were fighting and what we were in the trenches fighting. Robin was very aware that he was losing his mind and there was nothing he could do about it. She said that depression that everybody is talking about was just one of about 50 symptoms. She said it was a very small one at that. And she does not believe that that is what ultimately drove him to take his own life. Were making calls to find out if the coast guard has any leads on a possible missing kayaker off long island. Someone on a boat spotted the empty kayak drifting near plum island yesterday afternoon. But the coast guard is searching anyway, just as a precaution. Police on long island are trying to figure out who killed a taxi dispatcher. The coworker discovered the body of 30yearold William Donahue yesterday morning. Police say he was found dead inside the offices of the taxi company. Homicide squad responded. Were conducting an investigation into the incident right now. It appears the dispatcher had been stabbed during the night. Anyone with any information at all is asked to call crime stoppers. The son of a connecticut couple is officially charged with their murder. He was formally charged with murder yesterday. He was already in federal custody on a weapons charge. What are Police Telling you about the attack . Reporter so far, authorities arent calling this a hate crime. City officials, however, arent so sure. The victim worked for hatzolah. Theyre an Emergency Service unit that predominantly serves jewish communities. His attacker, wearing a hockey mask, attacked him on Eastern Parkway and rogers avenue, then took off. All of this happened around 8 30 last night. Authorities immediately swarmed the area. The victim actually radioed in his own call for help. He had his radio with him at the time. He was feeling pain in his upper right shoulder. Thats when he knew that something was wrong. He had been walking on a pedestrian walkway here on Eastern Parkway by himself. Authorities told me over the phone that man suffered a two to threeinch slash wound by the suspect who attacked him and took off heading eastbound on Eastern Parkway. We have breaking news now. It comes out of south sudan where a plane crash has left multimillion people ple people dead. Kerry barrett is in the newsroom with more. It happened just a short while ago. Were hearing at least 23 people have died. This crash happening shortly after this cargo plane took off from the south sudanese capital of juba. It crashed along the shore of the nile river. Theres an Associated Press reporter at the scene whos reporting that children are among those who died. In fact, we just got this video into the newsroom two or three minutes ago. Parts of the plane apparently scattered along the east nile where there are homes as well. We dont know if those who died were on the ground or in the plane. There was a government spokesman that says this russianmade plane had been headed towards oil fields in the upper nile state. We do know, of course, that rebel and Government Forces have been battling for control of that region. Whether that may have had something to do with this crash, we dont know. They say fox lake lieutenant Joseph Gliniewicz was found dead shortly after calling for backup in september. That set off a huge man hunt. The 52yearold claimed he was pursuing three suspicious men. Those men were never found. In the last month, investigators twice with his own weapon. The today show is following all the overnight developments in this kaes case. Theyll have a live report at 7 00 a. M. The mayor of houston, texas, says the fight is not over after a bill allowing transgender people to use a bathroom of their choice was voted down. Opponents of the bathroom bill, as its called, feared it would allow sexual predators into womens bathrooms. Houston mayor told supporters they had not seen the last of this measure. And ohio voters said no to a proposal to legalize medical and recreational marijuana. They say it was not only opposed for moral reasons, but voters did not like the idea of a select group of wealthy investors controlling production of the drug. Although the nypd so far is not calling this a hate crime, authorities arent so sure. Ive been stabbed. Reporter thats the call the victim actually made himself hes a worker for hatzolah, a group of volunteer Emergency Responders that serve predominantly jewish communities. He had his radio on him when he was walking along Eastern Parkway. Authorities swarmed the area immediately afterwards. He reported feeling pain in his upper right shoulder as he was walking by himself. No words were exchanged in this attack. No money or items were taken, but he suffered a two to threeinch slash wound that has him hospitalized this morning. The search is on for the suspect that simply took off. It was like rush, rush, take him right to the hospital. The cops just showed up like a minute after i came. I asked if he was likely to die. They said not likely, hes going to make it. Reporter the nypds crime scene unit didnt leave this area until about 4 00 this morning. So far, theyve not yet recovered the weapon used in the attack, but they conducted what they call a grid search, just combing this area for any pieces of evidence that they can recover. As for that victim, hes now at methodist hospital, michael. Hes expected to make a full recovery. We were talking about the details on the suspect. Over the phone police told me he was last seen wearing black sweat pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, but a mask. Not only a mask, but a hockey mask. They compared it to jason from friday the 13th. Police carried out evidence bags from the ralph avenue subway station in bedford. Investigators say a 29yearold man used a box cutter similar to this one to slash two men on the head while on the c train. One victim is out of the hospital. The suspect is being evaluated. Suffolk county police are investigating a murder mystery. The body of 30yearold William Donahue was found inside the mccabs taxi Company Offices on johnson avenue. A coworker made the discovery just before 7 00 yesterday morning. Homicide squad responded. Were conducting an investigation into the incident right now. It appears that the dispatcher had been stabbed during the night. Investigators are going to squ anybody with information to call crime stoppers. New this morning, dep crews are now on the scene of a water main break in the bronx. Ay take a look at the water in the middle of the street. This is near jennings and charlotte streets. Crews sealed off the area. Were told at least a couple thousand gallons of watterer now covering the concrete. At least one homeowner now dealing with flooding in the basement. Reporter and this is the courthouse, darlene, where that bus driver will face a judge for his arraignment. Itll happen here at this courthouse about 9 30 this morning, were told by the brooklyn district attorneys office. The bus driver spent by detectives. In the end, Police Arrested 48yearold paul roper. He faces numerous charges. Hes been an mta bus driver for 15 years and has been suspended without pay. The victim, carol bell s seen on Surveillance Video pushing her walker across fulton street when that city bus makes a turn. Police say the driver hit the 70yearold, stopped for a few seconds, but then drove away. Did the driver know he hit someone . Witnesses and a friend of the suspect. Once he stopped by the corner, he stopped for like two seconds. Then he kept going. I dont know how this tragedy happened. I heard people say he see it, but i believe him when he say he didnt see the person. Reporter according to investigators, after the bus driver struck the victim, he continued on to a bus depot where that bus itself was taken ovuser by another driver. That bus has now been impounded. In connecticut, investigators are looking for the source of an illness that spread like wildfire at a famous law school. 30 students at Yale University were stick last week. Officials believe the outbreak was caused by a norovirus. This past weekend, that law school was scrubbed down and disinfected. The mta slashed 1 billion from the budget and says that construction for stations above 96th street wont start until 2020.
