Reporter now, we asked the department of sanitation to try and quantify for us how many plowed. They counted by miles. There are about 589 miles of socalled tertiary streets, most of those are in queens. As of 5 00 a. M. Them. In the meantime, getting rid of all the snow in new york city is expensive business. The average cost of snow removal from 2003 to 2015 was 1. 9 million per inch. Last year the city spent two and a half million bucks an inch to clear 47. 5 inches of snow.
