Quests number begins with area code 785, while her Company Fax Number began with 718. So she contacted Quest Diagnostics with copies of what she received. After several weeks she received an email from quest saying in part, quote, the clients are being contacted, unquote. But it didnt end. Day after day, klaasman continued to receive personal medical information she did not want from dozens of different Doctors Office all over new york. Her next step was to report this to the department of health and Human Services which oversees hippa, which are strict medical privacy laws. Months had gone by and i thought it was strange. Reporter when klaasman asked about her report, she received this letter saying the matter provide, quote, Technical Assistance to Quest Diagnostics. But the faxes kept coming. Thats when she called news4 iteam. I know if my information was shared like that, i would definitely want someone to know. Reporter the Brooklyn Firm told the iteam that 44 records were sent to the wrong party due to human error when the area code was entered incorrectly. They were never notified by quest or the federal government. It is a serious data breach. Reporter pam dickson is a medical privacy expert that just testified before congress. It is literally against the law. Reporter a spokesman for Quest Diagnostics says they are now investigating what happened, who was flagged and who wasnt.
