Were you aware that felony drug dealers are regularly being offered drug treatment in new york state instead of jail, and are you okay with that . Well, look, should people who are dangerous be on the streets . Of course not. I mean, its common sense still applies. So can we always improve the system . Yes. Reporter but how . The only specific suggestion cuomo offered today was for leaders to send a louder message that police must be respected. The police have to respect the community, and we spent a lot of time talking about that. But the door in life swings both reporter the governor would not say whether he was implying that mayor de blasios city hall doesnt have the nypds back, a criticism de blasio has already faced from police. More than half of the 720 people sentenced to drug treatment instead of jail in 2013 had been charged with felony drug dealing in addition to being drug users. The fact that one person committed a tragic crime does not mean that a program doesnt work. The Middlesex CountyProsecutors Office says that fridays fire at congregation in New Brunswick likely started on the first floor. It took firefighters nearly four hours to bring those flames under control. No one was injured, and the specific cause remains under investigation. That synagogue opened back in 1923. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. House by house, people continue to move back into shoreline homes damaged by super storm sandy three years ago this week. Why the change really now . The pushback has been this notion that kids are spending so much time taking the standardized tests that theyre missing out on some of the more basic learning. Parents we talked to told their kids not to be afraid as they carry on. Problem. I told her that i would not send her some place that wasnt safe. In new jersey, the historic count basie theater is going to get a major facelift. The 89yearold heatler get an 89 million extension and this will be funded by donors. It is hoped it will transform the theater into an arts, entertainment and education campus spanning a whole block. Theater will celebrate its 100th birthday. And so as a community resource, its really time for us to prepare for the century to come. Officials hope to break ground by 2018, or perhaps 2019. If you like hot dogs, now is the chance to maybe hit mute on your remote. A new report found a small percentage of hot dogs and sausages contain human dna. Clear food company that tests products performed a test on 345 hot dog and sausage samples. In the report, clear food found 14 of hot dogs were, quote, problematic in some way. And 2 actually contained human dna which was classified as a nonharmful containment. The company did not specify which brands contained the human dna or what caused the contamination.
