That storm system works out into the atlantic and slides its way up the coast and its about 170 mile trip to us. First flakes mid jersey as we right around midnight for us and then by 6 00 a. M. Saturday it is all the way up north and the system moves through. The heavier bands now pushing more northerly than originally thought. That puts us on the cusp of 12 inches to 18 inches. Numbers in new jersey, several shore communities canning residents to consider leaving their homes but in manasquan those evacuations are mandatory because of the concerns about dangerous flooding in the hours to come. People here are being told they should leave tonight before conditions worsen. In all, 27 streets here in manasquan are on the evacuation list. The borough recommends people shut off their utilities and move themselves, their vehicles and cars to higher ground. Especially the elderly and those with special needs. Many homes are Vacation Properties but you do have permanent residents here. People we talked to plan to stay where they are though they say theyll keep an eye on the water. He had everything moved upstairs so he could take care of the town. Because hes not going to be there obviously. No, hell be gone until probably sunday. Probably. Issuing voluntary evacuation orders. The elbow to the jersey shore, Staten Island were all in this the back end of the storm hasnt moved but the heavier bands are pushing further north. Not the snow amounts in terms of the blizzard. You can have light amounts and a blizzard as long as you have white out conditions and winds at 35 Miles Per Hour or higher for over three hours. Well see gusts much higher than that tomorrow. The winds will start to increase across the area tonight. Well start to see gusts moving up from the south. The coastal areas will have the strongest wind gusts. 30 plus Miles Per Hour gusts by midnight at the jersey shore. We get into saturday morning at 6 00 a. M. And were looking at 40 to 50 Miles Per Hour gusts at the shore close to 30 Miles Per Hour gusts in the city and parts of long island youll start to see your winds increase the 40 to 50 Miles Per Hour gusts by noon on saturday. So the blizzard will be in full effect during this time period. Strongest winds. Theyll start to taper off after midday going into the evening and by midnight sunday still seeing pretty gusty winds but not nearly as strong. What will be the impacts . If you have items on your deck, on your porch that are loose and not secure you need to secure them or bring them inside like plants or lawn furniture or something that hasnt been brought in. Maybe your barbecue grill. Bring those things in doors. They are flying in the strong gusty winds. Power outages are likely in coastal areas especially where youre going to see the highest winds so be prepared for that. The winds will be lighter in the areas north and west. Everything, the snow, the wind, the impacts north and west of the city. The farther north and west you go the lighter the impacts are going to be for you. So for tonights forecast, the snow is coming. Its already progressing north. Weve seen the pictures so by midnight it should be in the city. Other parts of new jersey youll see it a lot sooner. Temperatures in the 20s now. 20s tonight. Tomorrow, well stay at freezing or below. Everybody in north and west youll be the coldest of course.
