Good evening. Im chuck scarborough. And im natalie pasquarella. Sibila has the night off. Right now investigators say they cannot rule out terrorism in the shooting, an horrific act that gripped the country for much of the day. A few hours ago it took a dramatic turn. Police shot and killed two heavily armed suspects. One was a woman. A third person has been detained. The death toll of the massacre stands at 14. 17 were wounded. Calls to 911 started flooding in at around 11 00 a. M. Pacific time. Thats when Police Say Gunmen stormed a center for people with Developmental Disabilities and Holiday Party. We are covering every angle of this shooting. And working right now to gather more information about the suspects. Chief Investigative Reporter jonathan dienst begins our coverage with the identity of one of them, jonathan. One of them is identified a syed farouk, and some relatives are set to speak out about shock and remorse about his alleged involvement in the slaughter. Investigators say too soon to know for sure what the motive, but they have some theories. Police conducting their searches slowly, concerned the suspects may have left behind explosives. A search of one suspects home ongoing. Police say that one suspect is now identified as syed farouk. Investigators are look into a motive, whether terrorism, Workplace Violence, or some combination played a role. I know one of the Big Questions that will come up repeatedly is this terrorism. And i am still not willing to say that we know that for sure. Reporter this afternoon the armed police tracking the suspects suv. Killed in that vehicle one man and one woman, both suspected shooters. A third possible suspect was later found running in the neighborhood. He is being questioned. The two dead suspects fired at officers, injuring one before it ended. Police having followed the suspects from the home in nearby redlands to just two miles from the original shooting scene. They were dressed in kind of assaultstyle clothing. They are both armed with assault rifles. Theyre both armed with handguns. Reporter the killing at the inland social Services Center in San Bernardino lasted several minutes, most victims killed in one area of the building. Witnesses report there was an argument at a Holiday Party there. The police not yet saying if that argumen is connected to the massacre. As the shooters moved in, people ran for their lives, and then the suspects fled. Hundreds of officers searched the complex and the surrounding area. In addition to rifles, police some investigators say one of the suspects may have worked at the facility. But others voicing concern this is more than a Workplace Violence case as these suspects appear to have worked in a group. Dave velazquez is the former director of the new jersey fbi. I find it hard to believe that you would find three disgruntled employees willing to do that kind of carnage in one place. Reporter fbi agents and local police now searching the suspects phones and computers for answers. Again, relatives of one of the suspects expected to speak in just a short chile as we await word from Law Enforcement on who all right, jonathan. Thank you. A lot of new information there and still developing. That chaos and confusion played out live on television as you well know. Police tried to evacuate people trapped inside the facility, while outside we saw the frantic race to treat the wounded. This as Checkey Beckford continues the Team Coverage with the anguish felt families tried to reach their loved ones. Inside the facility who called or texted their loved ones saying ive locked myself in a closet or someone is shooting inside the building. You can imagine the panic as families raced to the scene to find what looked like a combat zone. Chaos and carnage. Now we have two suspects, both dressed in black. Reporter the bloody scene outside of the Inland Regional Center resembled a war zone. Wounded victims triaged on the sidewalk. Those lucky enough to escape uninjured held on to each other, grateful. When i got here, cars were driving frantically. People were running all over the place. Trampling over each other. It was pretty much like a mayhem. Reporter the gunfire starting just after 11 00 a. M. , startling witnesses still unaware they were under attack. It was a lot. It sounded it sounded like a gun range. Just shots going off like crazy. It was a lot. A lot of shots. Reporter as s. W. A. T. And tactical teams moved in to search for the gunmen, hundreds were led away from the willing by officers, their hands up to so they need to go to the center. Reporter nearby another gathering, this time of family and friends of people who worked or were seeking services at the facility. Olivia navarro, like so many others, received a frantic call from her daughter, working inside the building when the gunmen started shooting. She was whispering because she didnt want o be heard. I think she didnt want anyone to hear her if they were outside in the hall. She didnt want them to open up the doors. And thats why she turned off the lights, or someone turned off the lights in the department. And they locked the door. Reporter Luis Gutierrez received a similar panicked call from his wife. The coworkers were all screaming. I told her to stay calm. Everything is going to be okay. I didnt know what to say because i was just trying to drive. Reporter many were eventually reunited with their loved ones. Still, they say their hearts break for those who did not make it out alive. Relieved but sad for the others. Just heartbreaking. To reunite people looking for their loved ones. Some of those people who were in the building are now being treated in local hospitals. Of the 17 wounded, at least ten people remain in Critical Condition tonight. Back to you. All right, checkey. So hard listening to some of the folks. President obama was in the midst of a press interview at the white house when he got news of the shooting. He offered his condolences to the victims and their families and talked about the need for tougher gun control laws. The one thing we do know is that we have a pattern now of Mass Shootings in this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world. And there are some steps we could take not to eliminate every one of these Mass Shootings, but to improve the odds that they dont happen as frequently. Common sense gun safety laws, stronger background checks. This was a 355th shooting with four or more victims in the a rate of more than one a day. Last week a gunman killed three and injured nine at a planned parenthood clinic in colorado springs. October 1 at a Umpqua Community college in roseburg, oregon, Christopher Shawn Harper Mercer killed eight students before turning the gun on himself. In charleston, south carolina, dylann roof opened fire killing nine. The reactions range from sympathy to outrage. The world must look at us and say what is happening, america. Please keep the victims and their families in your prayers right now. Republican president ial candidate donald trump tweeted good luck to Law Enforcement. Democratic president ial candidate Hillary Clinton called for new gun control tweeting i refuse to accept this as normal. We must take action to stop gun violence now. And as we mentioned, todays shooting happened at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino. At the Inland Regional Center there in San Bernardino. Its a sprawling facility that news 4s pat battle has more about this facility. We have learned in the hours since the shooting that the Inland Regional Center is an agency that is committed to improving the lives of children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities. Inland is the Largest Agency of its kind in california, and it provides those services for more than 30,000 people in both San Bernardino and neighboring riverside counties. Its got a staff of more than 650 people, and theyre well established in northern california, having been there for more than 40 years. Their clients ranged from infants to senior citizens. We dont have confirmation on the identities of any of the victims in this horrific shooting. But there is a possibility that some of the clients were onsite at the time of that shooting because the facility offers service like clinical diagnosis for a child with autism or Early Intervention programs for infantasy and Young Children there are also support groups for clients and parents and inland regional also, as these organizations so often do host their website chock full of pictures, parties and festivals. They held a walk to support Breast Cancer research and their winter dance was scheduled for friday, complete with an ugly sweater contest. In addition to receiving services, members of the board of disability tell nbc news that some of the clients are also employed by the complex as well. Even if there are no victims here, theyre certain to know people who have been hurt or people who have been killed. If this is difficult for us to wrap our heads around, imagine the trauma that these people are dealing with this evening. Im pat battle. Still so much developing there out of San Bernardino. One of the dead suspects has been identified as man named syed farook. The other a woman, unidentified so far. The surviving suspect is being questioned. The motive remains a mystery so far. Investigators say it could be a case of extreme Workplace Violence, but they are not ruling out terrorism either. The girls mother stabbed hours earlier in the bronx. Diomedes valenzuela will be expedited. The woman remains in the hospital tonight but is expected to survive. The nypd says overall crime is down in new york city. The Department Released new statistics today showing a drop by 2. 5 this year to date. Thats about 2500 fewer crimes. But the number of murders and grand larcenies rose almost 7 . Police commissioner bratton is hoping to cut down on violence with the addition of more officers next year. For the first time in 13 years, the department will actually have an increase in the number of officers available to us to deal with our crime situation. So projection for this year, its down. Projection for next year, it will be down again. Police say they saw jumps in transit crimes and rapes last month compared to the same time last year. The figures increased by 15 or more. A county Police Officer made a very special delivery this morning. Officer Jonathan Murray helped bring a baby girl into the world. It started when officer joseph a car belonging to a dix hills couple stopped on the parkway. The driver told ferrohis wife was in labor. He called for help. Murray responded. Its big, bright, breathtaking just like the city it now calls home. Were loving the holiday spirit. Were loving new york city nothing like it. She nailed it. People are still pushing, trying to get pictures of this tree. Guess what, folks . It will be lit through january 7th. The tree, once it comes down will go to habitat for humanity. I have to mention with everything going on, security was very tight here. The nypd did a great job there was no credible threat. And ever hing literally worked out without a hitch.
