Overseas as the migrant crisis intensifies, pope francis today called on every Catholic Church in europe to take in refugees and said the vatican would do its part by providing shelter to two families in the coming days. As that papal plea was made, the march of migrants and refugees into europe continued today. Our chief Foreign CorrespondentRichard Engel has our report. Reporter it was obvious today why so many migrants are risking everything to go to germany. [ speaking Foreign Language ] europes richest country is taking the moral high ground and opening its doors. So is neighboring austria where today hundreds of volunteers drove in a convoy to offer food, toys and transportation. Theyre going to extra lengths in part because hungarys treatment has been an embarrassment to europe, pulling migrants off trains and making them walk, but if hungary thought it could stop the flow it was wrong. Migrants in the thousands are still streaming into hungary every day along this abandoned railroad line. Many will turn themselves in to hungarian authorities and start their registration process, but others like these people here are trying to hide and dont want anyone to know who they are or where theyre going. It means no one can really say how many people are entering europe or how big this crisis really is. More than half the migrants we saw at the border hoped not to be noticed by Hungarian Police and were trying to sneak in, including nadia who left her daughter in aleppo and wants to eventually resettle her in europe. Hungarian police do not treat you well so thats why we need to run away and just go, maybe to germany, but run away. We dont want to want them to catch us here. Reporter this is what happens to those who get caught. This is one of the hungarian Holding Camps for migrants. Overcrowded, dirty, surrounded by razor wire, guarded by dogs. Its no wonder why so many try not to end up here. Many hungarians are also upset by what theyre seeing. At the Budapest Railway station more people come each day to donate clothing and give these traumatized people some muchneeded help. Richard engel, nbc news, budapest, hungary. Several people were injured when Police Used Batons to beat back about 300 migrants who were protesting at the length of time its taken them to issue them with permits and to get them off boats and get them off this island to mainland greece. Syrians are giving preference and afghans dont like that. All of them having to wait days in makeshift camps with few facilities or on the street. The u. N.
