Clouds are thinning and we will start out with sunshine around a good portion of the state and slowly we will see the clouds fade in as the sun fades out, temperatures above average, 35 build in and it gets milder from here. We will tell you how much warmer it gets in the coming days and how long that warm up lasts. Crews are on the scene of a first alarm house fire. Crews called to manchester around 4 50 this morning. The fire is in the rare porch of the building. No report of any injuries. Well, its tax season and irs scams are common but the u. S. Attorney Generals Office says they are seeing a rise than most years. The scammers claim to be with the irs and demand payment, threatening you with an arrest if you dont pay up. Virginia works at the local tax office. We are getting people calling panic saying the irs are suing them and they are beside themselves because they dont want to lose their homes or anything. Sean says he gets similar phone calls on a regular basis. The irs, i have outstanding debts and they would like to get it resolved. Theyve never said what they want me to do, but theyve threatened to send the police to arrest me. And melissa too received a phone call from a man with a foreign accent. This is the irs and there is a lawsuit filed against me between 20 2006 and 2014. Instead of engaging the scammer, what you should do if you get a similar call. The First Contact is not going to be from a call, from an irs agent calling your home and its not going to contain a threat of arrest if you dont make payments. If the irs thinks you owe them money they will usually contact you by mail first, not by phone. The irs will not ask for payment using a prepaid debit card, a money order or Wire Transfer. They will not ask for credit card information over the phone. State police are investigating an armed robbery. Take a look at your screen. This man went into the common general store and showed the cashier a handgun and demanded cash. He is described as a white man in his late teens or early 20s. Social security is one federal program that succeeded over the years and deserves to be saved for future generations. By 2034 if it stays the same everybodys benefits get cut up to 10,000 a year. One proposal to reform Social Security is to raise retirement age. The other is to lower benefits for wealthier americans. Replacement and subsidy for many retirees that dont need the assistance from the government. But aarp says Social Security isnt as generous as many think. We are in an economy where people have to rely on Social Security as their retirement. It is not a sustainable scenario that can go on forever. Congress needs to make entitlement reform a priority. We are most successful when we can bring both parties together, have an honest debate and come up with a proposal that is bipartisan in nature. Kristin spent the day in sandwich with the ice cutting every winter since the late 1800 this ritual takes place. It really is like taking a step back in time. When the ice becomes 12 inches thick this group heads out to harvest it. It is used at the deep haven camps during the summer to fill up Old Fashioned iceboxes. 3600 iceboxes will be removed to accommodate new guests. We do get new guests but there are families that are 4th and 5th generation and they like coming to a place that hasnt changed much. Hes in charge of cutting the ice with this saw. It is a tool thats been through a lot. We are not here to demonstrate a technique thats done in the old days, we have modernized it to make it safe. Warm front makes their way towards us and milder air streaming back in. Today will be above average and tomorrow will be more so. The other is to lower benefits for wealthy americans. It has become aa n income replacement and subsidy for those that do not need assistance from the government. The fact is we are in an economy where most people have to rely on Social Security as the sole source of retirement. Medicare is also in need of an overhaul. This is not a sustainable Congress Need to make entitle entitlement reform a priority. We are most successful if we can have an honest debate and come up with a solution that is bipartisan in nature. And it looks like it will bring rain. Maybe starting as mixed precipitation on wednesday. Especially wednesday, midday lets take a look at the situation here. For today, with that front to the west, it falls apart, so organized snow probably wont be seen here except for the northern half of the state. Increased cloud late today. And tomorrow any cloud pulling away for partly sunny skies again and we get milder tomorrow, and that lasts into monday as well. A front off to the west that is rapidly falling apart. Otherwise, milder temperatures continuing on monday as well. So we are starting off at 32 degrees in manchester and as the sun rises, the temperatures heading up in the upper 30s, near 40 degrees, increasing clouds and thats about it. Tomorrow even milder still. Check this out, manchester, mid to upper 40s for tomorrow. And a little cooler than that for today, but still about what yesterday was. In fact, temperatures near 50, not only tomorrow in some spots but monday. Then on wednesday the reason we will see rain is it will be in the 40s and 50s when the front comes through. Well above average. It looks like it cools down by the end of the week and into the weekend. Thanks, josh. It is a tradition more than 100 years old on the lake. Crista spent the day with the ice cutting crews and has the story. Every winter since the late 1800s, this ritual takes place. It is like taking a step back in time when the ice becomes 12 inches thick this group head out to to the lake to harvest it. It is used at the camp to fill up Old Fashioned iceboxes. More than 3600 ice blocks will be remove today accommodate their guests. We do get new guests but there are families 4th and 5th generations and they like coming to a place that really hasnt changed much. Carl is in charge of cutting the ice with this saw. It is a tool that has been through a lot. Hanson has made upgrade to it through the years. We are not here to demonstrate a technique thats been done, we modernize it to make it safe. Thats our concern. Safe enough to allow volunteers like this little guy. Once the ice is cut, each bhok is pushed through a canal. And i grab this hook, grab usually about five blocks at a time and with the help of a winch we bring them up on to a platform and up to the back of the truck. The ice is then brought to the campsite where its storeed in ice houses covered in sawdust where it will last until summer. There is a crew of guys over there sliding them out of the trucks and into the ice houses, stacking them tight, shaping them when they have to. People cant believe it. They cant believe its still going on and they cant believe we still do it this way. Talking about all the spring like weather. We have the snow fest on friday well, the skiers are making snow. You are talking children under 3 and cats especially. If cats arent getting will go after the house plants. It doesnt take as much because they have a small body. But you have a solution for that . This is known as cat grass. It is usually annual oats. If you put this out they probably will stay away from the house plants. Some of the house plants that you need to be concerned about, we talked about the peace lilly. What are some of the other ones . A lot of these have calcium oxalate. This is one of the most commonly grown are these and english ivy. Some people call those corn plants. And so it does. You go or what should you do . The American Humane Society has a list that is comprehensive that includes in door and outdoor plants. If you have one of these plants and berries drop, you want to deep them off the floor away from the pets and Young Children. A local pharmacist that took an walmart and won a major lawsuit. They unlawfully fired maureen after she reported safety concerns. The jury awarded her 31 million. I told the facts. 51yearold Maureen Mcpadden told the federal jury her story and jurors agreed with her version. Thursday they ordered her former employer walmart to award her more than 31 million. Im just coming down from a three andahalf year roller coaster ride of emotion, so i in 2012, mcpadden was working at the pharmacy inside this walmart in seabrook. She told management about safety concerns as described by one of his attorneys. Staffing conditions became able deplorable, an insufficient and untrained support staff that created a Public Safety concern. She lost her key and walmart used that as an excuse to fire her. And her lawyers said male pharmacists were better treated. The jury clearly determined that walmart had either willfully or recklessly disregarded both federal and state antidiscrimination laws. Walmart says we do not tolerate discrimination of any type and neither that or any concerns she raised about the Stores Pharmacy played a role it says she had been disciplined before and losing her key was a final offense. Shes pleased with the jurys decision. They came back with a verdict that really means an awful lot to me and i believe it will help other notice the future. I really do. Walmart says it will appeal asking the judge to throw out the verdict or reduce the reward money. She lives on the seacoast and still works as pharmacist for a different company. This trio was part of the fentanyl. When police tried to question the three, they took off but were caught a short while later. They are held on 50,000 bail. Doesens of suspected gang members are waking up behind bars in massachusetts this morning after federal agents and police crack down on the so gang members recruited students as young as 14 years old from area schools. The f. B. I. Laid out charges against 56 alleged ms 13 members. Well, a local woman claim as romantic partner pressured her into robbing a manchester bank. At work where i am we are getting people calling in, mostly the elderly, that are panicked because theyve got a telephone call from someone saying that the irs is suing and these people are just beside themselves because they dont want to lose their homes or pensions or anything. Sean says he gets similar phone calls on a regular basis. The irs, i have outstanding debts. I have misfiled my taxes and they would like to get it resolved. Theyve never gotten to say what they want me to do, but theyve threatened to sent the police to arrest me or this would be jail involved. In an email, Melissa Miller of manchester, received a phone call from a man with a foreign accent and saying this was the irs and there was a lawsuit filed against me for the tax years 2008 and 2013. He verified my name and phone number but wanted me to verify my Social Security number, my address, date of birth and much more personal information. Instead of engaging the scammer, she hung up on him and thats exactly what the attorney do in if you get a similar call. The First Contact will not be from an irs agent calling your home and not contain a threat of arrest if you dont make payments. If the irs thinks you owe them money, they will typically contact you by mail first, not by phone. They will not ask for payment using a prepaid debit card, money order or Wire Transfer. They will also not ask for a credit card number over the phone. New overnight, state police are investigating an armed robbery. Investigators say this man went into the general store off i93 after midnight. Showed the cashier a handgun and demanded money. He is described as a white man in his late teens, early 20s. If you have information call the state police on the number on your screen. A state Police Trooper says he had to use his taser on this man during an arrest. Douglas gray was pulled over in as he was being padded down he allegedly tried to run away. During the struggle he assaulted the trooper that used the taser to get him under control. Once he was in Custody Police discovered 25 grams of heroin on him. New details on a fire that destroyed a building on thursday not considered suspicious. Its more than 100 years old and under way on squam lake. The annual ice harvest. Crista spent the day with the ice cutting crews and has their story. Every winter since the late 1800s this ritual takes place. It really is like taking a step back in time. When the ice becomes 12 out to squam lake to harvest it. It is used at deephaven camps to fill up old iceboxes. 3600 ice blocks will be remove today accommodate their guests. We have new guests but there are families fourth and fifth generation and they like to come much. Carl hanson is in charge of cutting the ice with this saw. Its more than 70 years old. It is a tool thats been through a lot. Hanson has made upgrades to it through the years. We are not here to demonstrate a technique thats been done in the old days, we modernized it to make it safe. Safe enough for a generation of volunteers like this little guy. But the heavy lifting is left to the professionals once the ice is cut, each block is pushed through a canal. And i grab this hook, grab about five blocks at a time and with the help of a winch we bring them up on to a platform into the back of the truck. The campsite where its stored in ice houses covered in sawdust where it will last until summer. There is a crew of guys over there sliding them out of the trucks and into the ice houses and stacking them tight, shaping them when they have to. People cant believe it. Amy a local pharmacist took on walmart in court and won a major lawsuit. A jury found walmart unlawfully fired Maureen Mcpadden from the seabrook store after she reported safety concerns about her coworkers. The jury awarded her 31 million. Mike spoke with her and has her story. I told the facts. 51yearold Maureen Mcpadden told the federal jury her story and jurors agreed with her version. They ordered her former employer walmart to award her 31 million. Im just coming down from a three andahalf year roller so i cant im just i am m so happy. In 2012 mcpadden was working at the pharmacy in walmart. She told management about safety concerns she had as described by one of her attorneys staffing conditions were deplorable, they were inexperienced, untrained and instuff support staff that created a Public Safety concern. A month later she lost her pharmacy key and walmart use that had to fire her. She also accuses the company of discriminating against her because shes a woman. The lawyer says male pharmacists were better treated. The jury clearly determined that walmart had willfully or recklessly disregarded both federal and state antidiscrimination laws. Walmart says we do not tolerate discrimination of any Stores Pharmacy played a role in her dismiss will. It says she was disciplined before and losing the key was the final offense. Mcpadden is ready to move on pleased with the jurys decision. They came back with a verdict that really means an awful lot to me and i believe it will help others in the future. I really do. Walmart says it will peel asking the judge to throw out the verdict or reduce the money awarded. Mcpadden works on the seacoast different company. Thousands of dollars of fentanyl is off the streets this morning. The sale of fentanyl was making its way into town directly from lawrence, massachusetts. When police tried to question the three they took off. They are held on 50,000 bail. A local woman claim as romantic partner pressured her she gave the teller a note in march. She got away with thousands of dollars and split it with her partner. Authorities say she used the money to buy heroin and then overdosed. When paramedics revived her they found large amounts of cash in her clothes. A dark cloud has been lifted over the seabrook Police Department. 2009, the then 19yearold Michael Bergeron was escorted to his cell when one of three officers appeared to slam his head against the wall. In early 2014 it was posted to the internet and sparked an investigation. The supervising sergeant at the time was promoted to lou ten ieutenant after it went viral. He was then demoted to officer. The town is ready to move forward. So we are able now to turn the corner finally on this unfortunate incident and move department and hopefully a brighter future. Mark richardson was the only officer to face criminal charges. He pled guilty to a misdemeanor and withdrew his appeal a few weeks ago. Adam was fired. He accused the law by taking payments from his parents in 2010. He claimed he it had come from a family pot of money he was able to use. But now he repaid with cash from his campaign account.
