So, lets talk about where our temperatures stand right now. In the 30s and 40s and cool weather in concord as well as off to the north. We have some showers rolling through and some of those rolling through the southeast part of the state. Theyre concentrated, theyre in manchester and out to the with he is as well. Even with ample sunshine throughout most of central and southern New Hampshire maybe some clouds with a light mix of rain and snow showers, high temperatures only in the upper south. Thats it. And with the wind gusting at times over 20 Miles Per Hour, it will feel even colder still. Get shivers just thinking about it. Ok, there is the cold weather on sunday. And even colder start to monday, but even after the frigid start, upper 50s to 60s and showers up north on in the of 60s on wednesday. The mild stuff isnt done with us. Amy its a spectacular fall. Were joined by Margaret Hagan from the unh cooperative extension. What are we doing today . What were doing, about the time the first hard frost hit and your foliage died hard, things that dont make it over the winter, summer bulbs, although most arent a bulb, have to be brought inside in a container or lifted from your garden and stored to replant them. Theyre gorgeous. Who doesnt love dahlias or a big winter plate dahlia. They dont make it over the winter. About this time of year, cut things back to six or eight inches and then gently with a spading forklift them out of the garden. You dont want to bruise them or wound them. Dig them up . Bring them indoors, let them cure as they are for about ten days, which just means putting them maybe on newspaper, in a dry, cool place. Ok. And after that, once the dirt has dried on them, you can just go through with a gentle a cleaning . Give it a little bit of cleaning and theyre stored. That comes off easily. This is a dahlia for people who dont know and then you can store them for the winter. There are a number of different ways you can do that. So, you can put them in a plastic bag, a black one, and punch holes in it with a pencil so that it doesnt stay circulation. My grandmother used to put them in an onion bag and hang it in basement. You can put them in a damp paper bag with damp peat moss in them. You can use vermiculite or sand or peat moss. Backpack it in. And you can put them in boxes put the filler in on top, too, so lots of different ways you can do it and if youre lucky enough to have your tuberous begonias or elephant ears 0 are or lilies in a pot. Take it to the cool, dark basement and store them during the winter. The only thing you have to remember, maybe twice over the winter, water them so the roots survive. And the ones your he a scoring these ways, check them in january, maybe february, in case you have a few rotted bulbs you need to pull out. Thank you, margaret. This is a great experience. Give them a winter home. That does it for us. Amy coming up in the next half lace up your running shoes. A 5k to honor a murdered journalist. And creating a stir.
