M stephanie woods. Adam i m adam sexton. Firefighters say getting the 3 out of the vehicle was not an easy task. The crash happened in the southbound lanes just north of the massachusetts state line. Wmur s Kristen Carosa tells us what made this rescue so difficult. Kristen this is where the car came crashing in. It landed in the woods on top of trees, making it very hard to pull the people out of the car to safety. Firefighters are calling this one of the most extensive extrications they have ever had to perform. Being on an incline, can t stand up. 28 years as a firefighter, this was the hardest extrication i have ever had to participate in. Kristen a car crashed on 93 south around 5 30 this morning in salem. People living nearby made the 911 call. There was a car that had punched through the guard rail that traveled approximately another 150 feet. It was suspended in the air by trees. It was upside down with three vehicle. Kristen firefighters used the jaws of life to get them out, a process that took more than an hour. In to help. More than 3 4 of the vehicle was in the air leaning against trees, so we first had to stabilize the vehicle. It was upside down with heavy intrusion. The roof was pushed up into the floorboard area. It was very difficult terrain to stand in. Plus, we had to cut multiple trees down that were down on top of the vehicle. Kristen three people were taken to boston to be treated. Fire Officials Say the injuries are severe. Two were transported by medical helicopter and one by ambulance. Their identities are unknown at this time. At least one person was wearing a seat belt. That obviously helped out that individual. But they have life threatening injuries and a long road to recovery. Kristen crews then spent several hours searching for more victims in the woods. We did spend significant time in the woods using thermal imaging cameras looking for possible other patients. In the car with them. We did a search at night and another search in the daylight, and we did not come up with any other patients. Kristen the investigation is now in the hands of state police. State police say a driver is facing reckless driving charges after an incident on i89. It happened yesterday morning in grantham. The passenger of another vehicle captured it on their cellphone. You can see the driver in the green sedan tailgate another car pass it. , then pull back in front, lose control, and hit the guardrail. State police say the driver left the scene but was arrested a couple miles down the road. The driver s name has not been released. Adam a disabled derry couple says they have been targeted by vandals multiple times in the past week. Someone spraypainted their van and did the same thing to a rental car. Mike cronin joins us with more. Mike police say they are investigating the incidents. At this point, the couple does not know who or why someone would do this. Sunday is the laughtons 35th wedding anniversary. Barry wanted to take his wife out to dinner, but another act of vandalism stopped his plans. Barry laughton it s really got me disturbed. Mike their car is parked in their assigned handicapped spot at the fairways apartments in derry. The laughtons say someone spray painted it and put sugar in the gas tank. But this was a rental car. Last wednesday, they say they found dog feces on their van. Less than 24 hours later, someone tagged it. Barry laughton they covered it. The driver s side was really bad. Mike on friday, they got the the next morning, the same result. M absolutely we ve been here this long and our neighbors are great. Mike the laughtons are disabled. Barry is a veteran and has a heart condition. They don happened. Barry laughton we know that they t happening to anyone else in the complex . Barry no. Mike saturday night, their soninlaw camped out in his car to see if the person responsible would return. But no sign of the vandal. Will alexander to see Something Like this continually happen to them over the course of a week is just asinine and very infuriating. Mike the laughtons have lived here for seven years and never had any issues until now. While their van is being fixed, the bills are piling up.
