The candidates share their thoughts on Climate Change. Patriots and the monarchs. Adam details on this morning crash in manchester. The driver adam back to commitment 2016. We continue with our questions for the candidates. Stephanie tonight, we ask what you would do to deal with the issue of Climate Change. Bernie sanders this is an issue i have worked on very hard. First of all, we have to recognize that the Scientific Community is virtually unanimous. Climate change is real, it is caused by human activity and it is already causing devastating problems throughout the world. We need a major transformation of our energy system. We need to work with china, russia, india, and countries around the world to move away from fossil fuel to Energy Efficiency and such Sustainable Energies as wind, solar, and geothermal. And what the scientist tell us is we have a short window of opportunity to get our act together. And if we are not successful, the planet that we are going to be leaving to our kids, and our grandchildren, will be in a lot worse shape than the planet we have enjoyed, and that is Hillary Clinton human activity has put a lot of Greenhouse Gas emissions into the atmosphere, and it is changing the climate. It is warming our globe. So we ve got to accept it. I hope something will come out of the Climate Conference in paris that will be a path forward, so that not just the developed countries, who do have our responsibilities, but all of the developing countries that are on their way to the biggest emitting of Greenhouse Gas emissions, so bad in china that they had to have a red alerts to tell people to stay off the streets, you can t even breathe. It s often that bad in new delhi. So we ve got to have the whole world united. Here at home, i support what the president has done on gas mileage, on what s called the clean power plan. I want to add, what i call, the Clean Energy Challenge to really partner with states and cities to go much further. I ve set some big goals. Let s have half a billion more end of my first term and enough clean energy to power every home in america by the end of my second term. Martin o malley i am the only candidate in this race, in either party, actually, to put forward a plan that would move us to a 100 cleanelectric grid by 2050. And some states across our United States, you see this already starting to happen at a state level. I spend a lot of time not only in New Hampshire, but also in iowa. In iowa, 30 of their energy now comes from clean wind, produced in iowa, that supports four industry. This could be true all across our country. I ve done this at the state level dialing up our own , renewable portfolio standard. And as a nation, we have to recognize that this is a giant engineering challenge, not unlike landing a man on the moon. And this engineering challenge isn t going to be solved with an all of the above strategy. We need to make the investments in the new technologies, the battery technologies, safer generation, next generation nuclear, and also extend the investor tax credits for wind and solar to get there by 2050. And i believe we can. Stephanie we ll hear from more of the candidates in our next half hour. And read more on where all the candidates stand on these and other issues at wmur. Com. Hmm hmm hmmhmmhmmhmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmmhmm let us be lovers, well marry our fortunes together [ cheering ] ive got some real estate here in my bag counting the cars on the new jersey turnpike theyve all come to look for america to look for america to look for america to look for america im bernie sanders, stephanie now to commitment 2016, and we continue with our series of questions for the president ial candidates. Adam tonight we ask, what would you do as president to deal with the issue of Climate Change . Rand paul well, you know, the climate has been changing a long time, and we ve gone through geologic ages, ice ages, warm ages. We ve had times where the carbon s been higher. We ve had times when the temperatures have been much higher than it is today. I think what we have to do is balance control of pollution with the economy, and i think we can t get too crazy on one side or the other. If we get too crazy, i think that we ll ignore the fact that the air is actually much cleaner now than it was in 1910. If you compare pictures of pittsburgh in 1910 to pictures of pittsburgh today, what you see is much cleaner air. Some of that is government regulation. I think it can be reasonable. But you have to balance that with jobs. President obama has gone too far. Marco rubio well, the climate is always changing. The question is, what can we do about it in a way that s responsible for our environment and our economy . Been that i don t support these laws that they want us to pass. They want us to pass laws that will do nothing to impact the environment, but they will be devastating to our economy. Why would i support a law that does nothing to help the environment but would hurt the economy . The biggest polluters in the world are china and india and other developing countries, and they re not doing anything about it for the foreseeable future. America today is cleaner than it was 10 years ago, substantially cleaner than it was 20 years ago, and is going to continue to get cleaner because the american innovator is going to help make us more energy efficient. And it s going to help us develop things like natural gas, which is a clean source of energy for our country and our so that s what i will continue to promote, innovation and new energy sources. Can do, i m not someone frankly who is concerned about the issue of Climate Change. I think that the Climate Changes. It has always changed and will continue to change. Very little role in that. There are hundreds, literally hundreds of factors that earth. And to pick one out and say man should be able to influence that, it s just a way for government to grab more power. But if you are concerned about it, the best way to do it is to increase manufacturing in this country. Now you say wait a minute, increase manufacturing in this country . Yeah, because where are you going to be taking that from . You re going to be taking that from countries that pollute a lot more than the United States does. So if you actually want to reduce overall emissions, not d actually want to take jobs back from china, back from mexico, back from indonesia, bring them to this country where there are tougher environmental laws, so we can produce these products more cleanly. Donald trump well, Climate Change is not high on my list. I think that the Climate Changes, and it goes like this. It s patterns. You know in the 1920 s, they were talking about climate cooling. They were talking about the great cooling factors, and they had magazines on the cover, they thought that the world was becoming colder and that we were there are changes, but they weather pattern changes. And the money that s being spent on Climate Change, where obama and others have said it s the single biggest problem, when they can say that Climate Change is the biggest problem facing the United States, as opposed to nuclear terrorism, i just can t even believe that they can say this. So we are going to work very hard on good climate. We are going to work very, very hard on clean air and clean water. Those are all important things, very important things. But Climate Change is not a priority, believe me. Jeb bush the climate s changing, there is no denying that. The question is what impacts will it have . How long will that take place . What percentage of the impact is manmade and what percentage is natural activities of the climate . And i don t think we should hollow out our industrial core to deal with this. I don t think we should stymie economic growth. Those that benefit from the proposals for Climate Change in but poor and working class people suffer with these ideas of Rising Energy prices as the solution to dealing with Climate Change. The role of the federal government shouldn t be to try and create an industrial policy or impose a topdown driven approach to this. My belief is the proper role of the federal government is to invest in the longterm research and development. To find the next generation of way that it doesn t increase adam we ll hear from more of the candidates tomorrow at 5 00. You can read more on where all the candidates stand on these and other issues at wmur. Com. Announcer now, meteorologist Hayley Lapoint and your stormwatch nine forecast. Hayley today was so nice.
