in effect. good news up in pylesville, that earlier crash at whiteford and rock road has been cleared but woodlawn, vehicle still off the road gwynn oak avenue and park drive. a crash in baltimore fair. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are here at the state fairgrounds in timonium. in front. exhibition hall. this is where the teacher expo and job fair will kick off a little later this afternoon. they are expecting about 3,000 people to established this job fair. baltimore county public schools is looking to hire between 600 and 7p 00 educators for next school year. they want to get the best of the best for the students. and right now i have joelle is here, and also dr. donald pescia, here as well. they are with baltimore county public schools. good morning. thank you for being here. first of all, tell us a little bit about why this expo is so very important. >> it's incredibly important to baltimore county because we want to recruit the best teachers for our children. we want to staff our schools next year with the highly qualified and certified teachers in our system. >> reporter: what should teachers, or the candidates remember to bring with them today? >> bring big smiles, in addition to bringing plenty of copies of resumes and they'll have the opportunity to talk to over 170 principals. >> reporter: that brings me to another question. what kind of things can they take advantage of? you were saying there will be principals here? what can you take advantage of at the expo? >> there will also be representatives from our support staff, offices and housing will be represented. they will have opportunities to talk to different people with opportunities to either rent or buy in baltimore county and elsewhere. so there's really everything you can imagine a teacher would want to know. we'll have here for them to research. >> reporter: that's just amazing. in these tough times some school systems across the condition are laying people -- country are the state fairgrounds. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. a 2-year-old boy is back home with his father after his mother was hit and killed on philadelphia road here at the beltway. police say 17-year-old mavi maldonado was walking from golden ring shopping center crossing busy philadelphia road at the beltway in rosedale. she was head toed to a bus stop, a pickup jumped the curb and hit her. her 2-year-old was in a stroller but it was pushed out of the way. her friends and family believe that the mother made a split-second decision to save her son and police are still trying to figure out what caused the driver to jump the curb. he did stay on the scene to help the woman and her son. at this point no charges have been filed. 6:51. there's a controversy in harford county over what kind of web site students should be allowed to view while they are at school. earlier this year the county school board unblocked several web sites that provide information about gay and lesbian lifestyles. that sparked complaints and protests from parents and an attorney for the school board in harford county says the board is just following state law. many parents say that they should have been consulted before the change was made. >> i was shocked that something like this would happen, a decision would be made, without any meetings or public notice about it. without any parental input on the situation. >> it's hard to live in diversity but that's what our nation embraces. it takes for fort today of freedom and respect for all. >> the school board didn't act on the issue last night. it's not clear how or whether they will address the petition or complaints from parents. 6:52. it's all over. northrop grumman picked virginia over maryland as its new home for its global headquarters. in the "washington post" this morning one maryland lawmaker said that the state is more gay-friendly than virginia, trying to lure northrop grumman to our state. northrop wins awards for gay rights. virginia is about to land thousands of jobs. 6:53. the u.s. supreme court announced yesterday it will hear arguments on whether states have the power to regulate violent video games. back in 2005 california law prohibiting the sale or rental of such games to minors never took effect because the industry immediately challenged its constitutionality, after winning two rounds from the lower courts. the entertainment software association is confident the highest court will side with them as well. >> it should be treated just like movies, music, books and other forms of media. that there's a first amendment constitutional protection to the great games that are made by our industry. >> the parents should be responsible for what their kids have especially when it's violent or anything other than pg-13. >> the gaming industry already labels the packaging from e to everyone or m formature audiences. new insight on the corruption case against sheila dixon. we hear from the man who brought down the former mayor. maryland state prosecutor robert rohrbach. he says he'll resign later this year when he's completed his six-year term. he plans to retire and move to florida but he sat down with abc2 looking at the -- back at the dixon case. he says that her former boyfriend, megadevelopper ronald lipscomb prompted the investigation and as for why the prosecutor agreed to a plea deal for the former deal he says he didn't want to ask and risk taking the case to what he calls maryland's liberal courts and see the conviction get overturned. >> at that point she would have only been a suspended mayor. she could have come back, reclaimed her position as mayor and then she would have asked the city to repay her legal fees which people estimate to be $1 million to $2 million. >> he also says the investigation uncovered $13,000 in cash in her bank accounts that she was never able to explain. mount st. mary's students an their professor will be back home after that volcanic ash cloud stranded them in italy for more than a week. the students had been spending the semester there and they were supposed to fly home last week. this is a picture of the students. the professor has been blogging about the ordeal. they spent the last day touring florence. they will arrive back at dulles 12:30 this afternoon. they are expected to be back home by dinnertime. you can feel the pinstripes storming our city. the yankees are in town. they met with the president yesterday at the white house and now they will play the orioles tonight at camden yards. phil woods is going memoir writing "i beat the odds," published in february of next year. he rose from poverty in memphis to become a star with the ravens.
