. it's 11:00, do you know where your children are? >> now, abc 2news at 11. >> updated power numbers as you go to bed with noise of power saws and generators in your head try learning this, we have breaking news, we have a huge sewage leak. >> the governor plans to visit saint mary's tomorrow. the damages left behind by irene. >> and automatic sounds simple. tonight the bills you shouldn't pay but it pays to watch us. lots of new information as we start right now. >> and let's start right now with the thing breaking news. the widespread power problems have caused widespread sewer over flows. >> one of the mainlines is having problems. it's thought that around 16 and a half million gallons of over flowed from the pumps. we don't know how much has been over flowing the mainline but several area lakes, rivers and falls are affected. the county said it'll release water quality reports as needed. >> bge said it's making progress to get the lights back on. tonight there are fewer than 300,000bge customers without power. 300,000. >> still a lot. >> seems like a lot. many say it's not happening fast enough. have you called for the update on your outages? have you learned that it could be saturday before you get power? >> that would make you upset. how about furious? you want to see go to essex, karim did and she got an earful from the powerless. let's check in. >> reporter: those residents live in the hyde park community and tonight they say they have gotten little to no response since the storm. patricia is walking in to her dark apartment for the third night. she lives in the hyde park apartments which has been without power since hurricane irene saturday. >> grocery shopping on friday before i came in. i spent quite a bit of money and i had to throw it all way. >> reporter: she is not alone. many residents hear are frustrated. like this couple who said both bge and the apartment management company have not responded. >> i think the apartment complex should have tried to come round and say what they are doing. we have elderly. they haven't really checked on us as far as neighbors try to -- see what they can do. the. >> it's very dark if you are outside all you see is flash lights. >> reporter: updates were given tonight on the recovery plase saying 15 roads remain closes, schools were closed for another day, these power lines blocking more than 100 school buss from leaving their parking lot. they say over half of county households have power back but nearly 100,000 are still in the dark. i spoke to the top officials at bge and expressed the frustration of our residents. >> reporter: that's not enough for residents in the park in hyde. >> sunday i was here off. it was two of them in the pickup truck and they sat there all day and didn't do nothing. we were told it was going to be put on 4:30 sunday afternoon, nothing was done. >> feels like we are homeless. >> nonsense. total nonsense for them, i want to live -- one of the representatives at bge i want to eat his food and take a shower at his house. that's what i want. >> reporter: now i spoke to bge officials and they say they have restored 400,000 households and at this point they are asking residents for a little patience. >> all right. thank you. people living in the city experiencing the same frustration. downed trees and limited power, crews working overtime to get the trees out of the road. it's the project that will take a while. the one thing most people are running out of is patience. >> pretty much work around the clock and we are going to get it done because we always do. it's a lot of work, lot of work. >> reporter: city forestry crews are working along with bge to clear the debris and get the lights lights back on. >> sandbags putta bay so have the mops and the broom? look at the annapolis ceiling. a waterline broke and kyle's place has been close since thursday and the mayor said he handed out more sandbags than dc did. they are put away for the night. the ark and the dove the first to land but it's irene giving us a history lesson. lesson. the pictures we are about to show you come from hollywood. >> reporter: saint mary a county running between the rivers, hurricane irene's winds blew through on saturday and they blew through hard, some of the damage is breathtaking. date and cindy say it was the worst night of their lives. >> we heard like a -- just absolute crash, bang and it happened four times, it just went crash crash. >> reporter: when it was over. >> about seven to nine trees and some of them almost two feet in diameter that hit the house, busted open the roof. >> reporter: he is waiting for the insurance company to come assess the damage to the home they have shared for 11 years. >> like being in a horror movie. >> reporter: saint mary's took the hardest hit. the strongest winds recorded here and the most rain. the governor will tour on tuesday, major roads have been cleared but there are still dozens of damaged homes and more than 20,000 without power in a county that has only about 100,000 dents. they have been giving out free bags of ice. >> we have -- haven't had power for two and a half days and we are out of water. we are on a well. >> reporter: people have picked up more than 800 of the 40- pound bags so far with plenty more to come. >> still power lines down. we see the crews working as hard as they can. we are being patient as possible. >> reporter: if saturday was their worst night dave and cindy say the past two have been some of the most up lifting. >> it's amazing the people that do come out and help you. >> friends and family and kids have all been here. its been wonderful. >> reporter: they will give out ice again tomorrow. the power company isn't expected to have all power back on at least until this weekend. reporting from saint mary's county. >> now because of the damage lots of closings and delays, you see them running across the bottom of the screen. if you are one of the people without power you are likely surround by the hum of generators. hartford no exception. they have more than 20,000 people without power tonight. this neighborhood a family trying to keep the lights on had a close call with the generator, it -- they kept it inside the garage door but the wind shifted pushing carbon monoxide into the home. they turned off and opened the windows but it was to late. >> he said something is wrong with his daughter. i went upstairs to see and he was at the window with her. i passed out. then we figured out it was carbon monoxide. >> paramedics took them to an area hospital where they were all treated released. here is a lesson that apparently needs to be shared, how to handle traffic lights if no power. treat it as a four way stop. here is another important point. it doesn't matter how major the road is that are you traveling on if the light is out stop. pedestrians have the right of way, we are all frustrated but you need to be careful. >> did you go to the store and get a six pack of water for $23? you know the fix is in. we are just trying to make a point. when a hurricane or blizzard is here we don't have time to comparison shop. you don't have to him too visit three stores to get the lowest price. for that we could all fall for price gouging. two days before irene karen is out buying supplies. next day the same stuff with a higher price. >> i kind of did a double take and they were $8.88 for the same chips, same area and location. it's not even 24 hours later and a two dollar increase. >> one angry viewer posted this picture of cases of water at the k-mart. priced at $11.99 higher than other stores. then judi was so outraged by preirene price gouging she went to the attorney general where complaints are starting to come in for things like water, dry ice and snacks. the ag is saying to be on our toes for scammers, especially crooked contractors who want to take advantage of you because of irene. they said never pay up front, make sure they are licensed and don't jump at the first knock at your door by someone saying they will help you. >> calm down, make sure you get several estimates, check the first one out, check for references and make sure you get a good contractor. >> and how do you do that? you go to the home improvement commission website and that gives you a lot of information. >> that's right. 750 military ready to eat meals going out to those without power in howard tomorrow. county executive wants those of you in columbia, clarksville and elk ridge to know crews working around the clock. a site will open tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. in ellicott city. if you don't have power you can get two mre's and three liters of water per family. supplies last until they run out for until six tomorrow night. the aftermath will clearly take a long time to clean up but the skies have been clearing it doesn't look like we will have rain more soon. wyatt with us now. what's going on? money watch.com said if you auto pay you don't inspect your phone bill carefully and may go over on minutes and texts. with cable you may order to many monthes on demand, not realizing how much they are costing you. the consumer federation said never automatico pay any bail that can change from month to month, you may no months without noticing increases or that they never stopped billing you when you canceled. >> now, maryland's most powerful powerful doppler radar. >> quiet on the range. 16 at pwi. humidity 70%, not a cloud in the sky, no rain or wind. pressure high. this this is what we like to see. recapping some of the last final storm totals out of the national hurricane center and they are amazing, especially in southern maryland and the eastern shore. we had it bad around baltimore but ocean city more than a foot of rain. the big winner almost 13 inches in chesapeake. east in -- those winds up in the 0's and 70s. it's nice to see them calming down out there this evening almost no wind. the next one, you may coma cruise here, we except her to develop. at this point the projections and these are early projections, they would actually take it further north and bring it in up into like northern new english hand. still to early to say. we expect it to develop inia to a hurricane. just what we want. the radar dry and clear tonight and across the area things quiet out there as well. there are some showers down into north carolina right around the virginia border and they don't need it. they are in a flood borderline flood situation from the leftover rains of irene that far south but they are getting new rain. dry air in place where they have flood problems, we have that pleasant fall like air, does feel very fall like. i think we city dry and into really the middle part of the week. here -- the historic hurricane stats, hit once about every 20 years, affected three n was basically a hit. 1933 when we had the 33 hurricane that cut the ocean city inled. a lot of people remember that. irene came up the coast. we have had them before, hurricane floyd took a similar path. lot of people talking about isabel bell, it came in south. put us on a different wind field sot water was forced up the chesapeake, gloria in 1982, that was the last time ocean city was evacuated and she made a turn out to sea and then agnus in 72. that was a crazy one that brought incredible flooding rains to our state out of the gulf. really strange storm. 56 partly cloudy tomorrow, 84, tomorrow night we fall to 59, mostly clear and pleasant. seven day forecast we keep the dry weather around, three to four days, we bring in the chance for rain on labor day and to bad because i'm sure a lot of people looking up for the missed beach weekend. next weekend maybe some showers in the second half of the weekend. think about it, maryland -- plenty of times we have been threatened. >> that was a perfect weather forecast. >> you like that?
