once again, we'll answer that coming up. millions are frustrated. we know you had it up to here with sweating. abc 2 news cheryl connor with a family. >> reporter: there's no cleaning up the storm at the brian house in edgewater. an accident that police say can only be blamed on matter nature took their son kevin life. >> you would have never thought you driving down the road a tree falls on you and kill you. >> reporter: parts of 25-year- old kevin o'brien car is mixed with tree that is in pieces. families stopping by the scene trying to comprehend the freak accident. brian was driving two friends around 11:30 friday night when this tree crushed his vehicle. the wind was up to 70 miles per hour at times. brian's father believes his son was on his way home. >> usually he always calls back within a certain period of time. we never got a return call. i knew something was up. >> reporter: his gut feeling was right. around 10:30 kevin o'brien younger sister hannah got the last text message asking if she was okay. a friend told the family about the accident. roads were blocked off. they went searching for answers. >> we had to come back and try to find out if our son was still alive. >> reporter: o'brien died at the scene. two friends with him, 16-year- old matthew miller and 17-year- old erik hodges both from davidsonville had minor injuries. right now it's tough for kevin o'brien family to escape the power of that storm. kevin o'brien was suppose to celebrate his grandfather's 70th birthday on saturday. instead heavy eyes fill his house as the family try to understand how life changed in a split second. >> he was to see the car, i mean, the lord must have wanted him. >> reporter: in anne arundel abc 2 news. >> our sympathies to the family tonight. the obrian family they are fortunate those younger children were no in the car. could take us a while to get over this. this was one of the worst storms we can remember. we had the lightning and rain and wind. . >> reporter: the sound of chain saws hard at work. that's the sound most baltimore areas are hearing after friday's storm. here in east baltimore bruce and martin have been working hard all day cleaning up the debris. >> we had two tree limbs down on the ground. i look in the back, there's tree limbs on the powerlines. we've been without power for 2 days now. >> reporter: as you drive around the city, you will notice blinking traffic lights, this sign says welcome to the park. here look at the size of this tree across rogers avenue blocking both directions of travel. transformers on the ground, wires are down and residents like mrs. woods heard that familiar sound. >> when i heard that oak tree smack, i ran to the basement. we have no way of getting offer the -- out of the community at home. every street was closed from liberty heights. we were boxed into our community. trees were down. trees on homes and cars. . >> reporter: baltimore city mayor stephanie rogers was on hand to distribute ice. she and all city departments are working hard to help citizens during this time. they want to make sure we look out for our neighbors. >> you have to check on those you know don't have electricity or don't have air-conditioning. make sure they have fans. make sure they have water. our seniors are extremely vulnerable in this heat. there's already an increase in emergency room visits for heat exhaustion and heat-related injuries. >> reporter: the mayor wants us all to help the most vulnerable citizens our senior and young people. if you must make emergency call please use 311 for nonemergencies. >> we know baltimore county felt it good too. it took you an hour to find a beltway because of all the roads being shut down. it was like turning the lights out. the home of our county government is littered with power outages. pools couldn't open, ice was hard to come by. what happens when you come up on an intersection without lights?
