a volunteer firefighter was killed. you can see the boarded up windows here, evidence of that fire. 43-year-old mark faulkenhan got trapped on the third floor of the building when he went inside to try to rescue people who lived here. faulkenhan save the life of at least one woman. and when the fire flashed over, he was trapped on the third floor balcony. rescue crews took him to st. joseph's medical center where he died. >> through the end, mark was calling on the radio advising of the conditions and calling for additional resources and searching above the fire for potential rescues. >> reporter: other people were hurt in this fire. a man was taken to sinai hospital and a woman to the burn center at johns hop kens bay view where she is -- hopkins bayview where she is listed in baltimore sun reports that police combed the woods behind a southwest baltimore apartment building last night searching for clues in the disappearance of phylicia barnes. they focuseded on a well of north bend road but they found nothing there. barnes is from north carolina and was visiting her half sister for the holidays when she disappeared. a burglar is on the loose and police want your help to help keep an eye out for him. authorities believe the suspecthas hit multiple homes in annapolis. police say the person has been kicking in front doors and walking away with valuables. don harrison has the story. >> reporter: since november,annapolis had 15 burglaries in the south annapolis area all along the forest drive corridor. the burglaries have similarities. >> each involve one or two people quickly kicking in the door, going into the houses and taking television sets, computers or jewelry or a combination and no doubt leaving very quickly in a car or truck. >> reporter: annapolis police chief mike says none of the burglaries occurred when people are home. >> in each of the 15 burglaries, no one was home. so we have reason to think that they knew that, they watched them leave for work and all are happening between 8 in the morning and 6 at night during when people would be at work. we think they noticed people were leaving or there's signs to them that no one is home at overdoing it at nine. we will be slipping below freezing and slipping into the 20s this afternoon. some of you may be in the lower 20s by this afternoon with a wind chill in the teens. it will get brutally cold. storm track that we expected to pass through southeast virginia. that would have kept us in the moderate snow band and i loud the air to spill in and catch up to the snow. keep my hand that is what -- that's what the snow track was forecastedch this is what happened. and as you can see the snow pushing through new york and new england, i want to slay down -- lay down the snow position and storm track. about 150 mile shift to the north which takes the snow and pushes it 150 miles north. that is the general expectation. look at cold air. teens and single digits, we are going to feel the falling temperatures throughout the day. and winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour. extended outlook in a moment. here kim with traffic. >> reporter: justin, as you said, we didn't get what we expected in terms of snow and precipitation. and the state highway administration made sure they did a good job of getting the roads pretreated. the interstates and major highways are looking good. you could see slushy -- slushy spots on the side streets. look at 50 and 97, traffic is moving well in both directions. no warnings or problems at the area bridges this morning. going to the maps, we have an accident reported in joppa town at magnolia road and fort hoil road, a single car into a ditch. also cockeysville, police are on the scene of a crash in front of hunt valley town bones increasing the risk they can break. it's most common in went after menopause. now the federal government has updated guidelines for detecting the ailment. expanding the screening of women in the so-called gray zone between the onset of menopause and age 65. after a review of medical studies in the last eight years, the new standards say that as before, all women 65 and older should be routinely screened for off theos -- osteoporosis. women under 65 should be screened if their risk of bone fracture is as high or greater than 65-year-old white women who have higher rates of the
