two groups of teens led to the shooting. it happened just after midnight saturday between the world trade center and pratt street pavilion. kyron holly said he felt like killing someone before he opened fire. the victim was taken to the hospital and later released. police believe the shooting is gang-related. the commissioner is fired up. >> they shouldn't have acted like jerks at the harbor. couple young men just passing by. an exchange of glances led to that outcome. >> last summer there was a shooting inside the light street pavilion. it is going to be 93 today, but you'll feel like a for another scorcher and baltimore city is already getting prepared. they've issued a code red heat alert because of the predicted high temperatures. this means they'll be opening cooling centers all around the city. each center will have cool air, water and ice available for people. they're open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the temperatures expected to be very high today, health officials encourage people to drink plenty of water, reduce outside activities, make sure you wear light weight clothing and try to stay inside during the hottest times of the day. you can log onto our website early yesterday morning in south baltimore's brooklyn neighborhood. the commissioner said the woman was four months pregnant. she's expected to be fine, but her unborn child died during the deal. baltimore has more baseless rape cases than any other city in the u.s. over the past five years, more than 30%, 30% of the rape cases under investigation each year have been deemed unfounded. that's five times the national average. well, the longest serving member of congress remains in the hospital because of his condition. robbed bird, 92, is seriously ill. he was thought to be suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration, but we're told other conditions have developed. president barack obama is standing up for his supreme court pick. the president says attacks on elena kagan have been gruel. the president said the members of the senate should vote their conscience on the nomination. the president made those remarks at the g-20 summit in toronto over the weekend. world leaders have set a lofty deficit-cutting goal including total debt stabilization by the year 2015. leaders have backed the pledge to cut budget deficits in half by 2011. tropical storm alex dropped heavy rain in cancun over the weekend. is now a threat to the oil recovery efforts. in those operations, if they have to be shut down, researchers say that'd mean about 2.5 million gallons of oil would flow into the coolest. only 81, western maryland, garrett county. right there by deep creek lake. that sounds so nice. we're holding at 81 in baltimore. 82 in easton on the eastern shore. mostly clear skies around central maryland with a few clouds trying to lift their way north of the area. lots of rain to the west. that's part of our frontal boundary that will try to sweep through. i think we'll have a chance for strong to severe norms as we head through this afternoon. that may include damaging wind and large hail and beginning to knock down our heat wave. we'll talk about that coming up in just a pinch. traffic very well so far to begin our monday morning commute. fortunately, no incidents that'll hold you up so far around the area. as we check our drive times, no delays at this time on the may be helping the earth, but could be hurting your family. what your grocer may not have told you. 5:13. in this morning's health alert: your reuseable grocery bags are helping the environment, but may be making us sick. researchers found that 97% of shoppers do not regularly, if ever, clean their bags. who would think to clean these bags? they say that leads to breeding grouped for bacteria. there's no substitute for a good scrubbing in between uses. >> with the chlorine, the food tap water, there'll be enough chlorine to give you an element of sanitization that you wouldn't have otherwise. researchers in the study tested a number of bags and found that many of them contain the types of bacteria that leads to serious food poisoning. it is common for passengers to recline their seat to get rest or stretch out their legs, but what many people don't know is that experts say reclining your seat could result in serious injury, even death. prason kumar still remembers when his car was hit head on. >> i was in a coma for 2.5 months. i had heart, liver, kidney failure. >> kumar nearly died. he was wearing a seatbelt, but his seatbelt was reclined. when vehicles are safety showers to move in, around or shortly after the lunch hour. this is one particular computer model. the atmosphere is charged, primed and ready to go. the storms are ready to blow. they'll blow winds perhaps over 60 miles per hour. isolated twister. that puts the limit of severe storm possibility for us at slight to moderate risk through today. the storm threat will continue through this evening and finally push through as we head through tonight. now we'll have a partly cloudy day tomorrow. much improved, set up with a drop in humidity. you'll feel all that stuff by wednesday, thursday and friday. for today, we're expecting to have a warm, sticky morning. showers and thunderstorms could turn severe. high temperatures will be around or just after the lunch hour. as storms begin to move
