maryland. abc2's brian kuebler joins us for details. >> waiting for superman was released last fall. a movie that sparked a discussion hosted tonight in westminister. >> you wake up every morning and you know that kids are getting a really crappy education right now. >> so you think that most of the kids are getting a crappy education right now? >> oh, i don't think they are. i know they are. >> reporter: "waiting for superman" won an award at sun dance for following the story of three students in three major american cities including washington, d.c. it catalogs how the filmmaker believes the public school system fails them. >> among 30 developed countries we rank 25th in math and 21st in science and almost every category we fall -- we have fallen behind. >> reporter: and those students hoped to be selected to join charter schools for a better shot. >> for these kids, their only chance at getting into a great school depends on whether their number is picked in a lottery. >> the film has its critics and its supporters, each with an opinion all adding to a growing debate on education. >> we are a film going public sometimes and when we see things on the camera and we see things on the big screen, i think it brings a kind of immediatey immediatecky to us. >> it's the kind of debate they hope to have tonight as the school screens the movie along with national education leaders. "waiting for superman" is controversial among some but the hope in westminster is to get people talking. >> the fact that we are not trying to ensure that 100% of the young people in this country have successful educational experiences, that is a failure in our society and we want to be a part of the dialogue about how do we solve that problem. >> reporter: now, tonight's screening is free and will begin in just about an hour at mcdaniel college. audience members will have the opportunity to discuss the film with education leaders directly following the film. brian kuebler, abc2 news. >> you started the dialogue. this is our hot topic tonight. we want to know what you think about the education system here in america. is it really that bad? and what do you think will be done to improve education here in the united states? you can leave your comments right now on our facebook page at abc2news.com/facebook. st. paul school for girls received horrible news today. one of their students, a sophomore in a five week exchange program in australia is killed. abc2 news' roosevelt leftwich reports on the sadness over losing a student, it's tough. >> very tough for that community. cameron o'neill mullin was in australia for an exchange program in australia's gold cove. she only had less than a week left before she was to return home and that's when tragedy struck. according to reports, o'neill mullin and her host family's two daughters were riding on an inflatable being towed by a speedboat when the boat turned sharply and the inflatable flew into a tree. o'neill mullin and 16-year-old paris wilson were killed on impact. a 12-year-old girl survived. a facebook page dedicated to the two girls went up on the web late yesterday. st. paul school for girls head of school monica gillespie told abc2 by phone that o'neill mullin was a special girl. >> we have grief counselors and our chaplins and we are supporting our community during this time of sadness and so we are adjusting our program to make sure we are providing support for our students and our faculty and staff. >> progress me says that owe -- gillespie says o'neill mullin was an outstanding student, leader and athlete and a friend to many. they have also sent out notice to parents letting them know what has happened here. live in the studio, roosevelt leftwich, abc2 news. >> our thoughts tonight with st. paul's. here's the latest tonight on that massive chicken farm fire that took several hours to get under control last night. it's believed that as many as 300,000 chickens were killed. it broke out at the ise america building here in the cecilton area. fire officials say it broke out shortly before 7:30. three barn buildings were destroyed and a fourth was damaged as the high winds just quickly spread from barn to barn to barn. more than 150 firefighters joined in the fight. no word tonight on what caused this fire. we now know the names of the people who were injured in a plane crash in caroline county. the faa says the plane just flipped while trying to land at the religionly -- ridgley airport. all three men on board were taken to the hospital. they are 24-year-old austin ealey, shawn moran, kevin wornky. witnesses say it appeared to be landing and flipped over after both wings broke off. someone close by pulled one of the men out of the plane, an emergency -- and emergency workers showed up in time to help the other two men. police now say the person who shot and killed a burger king manager last month could be connected to two other fast food crimes. authorities in frederick are now working with law enforcement in hagerstown and martinsburg martinsburg west virginia to compare notes on armed robberies at burger kings there. on march 18th someone killed the manager at the burger king in frederick near i70. so far nobody has been arrested. when you don't feel well, you usually want your doctor to give you something to make you are feel better, right? >> now the state may allow doctors to figure out if you're seeing more than one of them. they want to make sure you're not trying to double or triple up on prescriptions. abc2 news don harrison explains that two lawmakers are at odds over this issue even within their own party. >> reporter: prescription drug abuse is a national problem, one that's having a big impact on maryland. that's why delegate dan more miami is blind a bill that will force pharmacies to monitor and keep track of who gets prescription drugs. this will allow doctors or other medical facilities to see if a patient has been prescribed a particular drug before. that goal is to curb doctor shopping when someone tries to get several prescriptions of the same drug from different doctors. >> we want to get a handle on it in a way that maintains the doctor-patient relationship, maintains appropriate drug use for those who need it, people in serious pain, and at the same time allows information to be made available. >> reporter: supporters say the program will not use maryland tax dollars. >> the funding comes from federal grants, there are no fees being attached to prescribers, physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists or dispensers meaning pharmacists. >> are you really getting accurate information. >> reporter: this delegate has been a pharmacist for the last 46 years and has concerned with -- concerns with this bill. first and foremost, privacy. >> i think a liability question is the problem right away and how they are going to keep the record, how they are going to monitor it, who is going to monitor, what's going to be their responsibility? yeah, some early cloud cover giving way to some clearing skies and, you know, some dry weather late in the day after some morning showers and some early morning storms. mount airy giving way to a more quiet but very breezy and chilly afternoon out there at mount airy, frederick further west similar story here. you see the skies clearing off as we get into the last couple of hours of the afternoon. that was actually six hours compressed into six seconds for you. time lapse weather in motion. all right, check it out. maryland's most powerful radar, we are crystal clear right now and expect to stay that way tonight, tomorrow, probably tomorrow through tomorrow evening, we may see a stray shower or two but the winds will let up by tomorrow. look at these wind gusts at the top of the hour, 33 hagerstown, 26 in ocean city and with the air temp close to 50 now, some 30 degrees plus cooler than this time yesterday, we are in the mid-80s. it feels quite cool with that wind chill factor, 37 hagerstown and york feeling like low to mid-50s from the eastern shore back to baltimore. your neighborhood by neighborhood look tomorrow, an improvement. we are back in the low to mid- 60s, odenton, shady side might make the mid-60s. streets in harford county, 60 or so tomorrow and aberdeen about 58 with a couple of possible stray showers but again not looking for much. our satellite and radar trend very active tonight, offshore where that main front is and then we still got a peppering of showers, a wintry type precipitation out into western pennsylvania, western west virginia. but again, the overall pattern is clearing from west to east and as we take a look at the overall setup here, last of that disturbance kicking out to sea, cold air will follow in behind it but overall we are looking for a couple of quiet weather days ahead. yes, a stray shower will be possible tomorrow but probably not much and again the last of that active weather offshore gets further and further away, we are left with just some passing cloud cover through the day tomorrow and i think thursday a very similar story, though thursday we expect winds to shift, we should warm up back into the upper 60s close to 70 on thursday. of game 2 and 3, both orioles game look relatively dry and the warmer one coming up in game 3. overnight tonight, 35 under a partly cloudy skies, your 2-degree guarantee wednesday, how about 62, mostly cloudy, maybe a stray shower but i think dry for the most part, orioles action tomorrow night will eventually go down to 43 toward daybreak on thursday morning. but the evening doesn't look too bad at all and your seven- day forecast, you see again a milder day thursday, better chances for rain friday. friday does look a little wet and cooler, but then we recover this weekend back into the 60s, maybe just a couple of hit or miss showers through the weekend. looks even warmer toward monday. we are blocking -- blogging about the os and orioles game day weather fortwo and 3 -- for 2 and 3, all of that coming up. we are saving you at 6:00. here's what we are doing. we are spring cleaning. i know a lot of you are going in your garage or attic even in your own house you're taking your furniture. what are you going to do with it?
