the victims are not students there. nonetheless, police are working with the university as it notifies its student body, while looking on many of its security cameras to see if any of them caught an a fetus in maryland posted $300,000 bond today after her first appearance in an elkton courtroom. she was extradited yesterday. her lawyer asked the judge to throw out the charges and release her from custody, but the judge denied the request. riley's former colleague is also facing murder charges for his role in the death of five fetuses. a 7-year-old girl and her 10-year-old sister were killed in a four alarm house fire this morning in cumberland. the mother, and their 7-month- old mother managed to escape the row home. five housing units were affected by the fire. the american red cross is helping the families who are not allowed to return to homes. a 13-year-old boy disappeared yesterday afternoon. police say shawn david was seen before 3:00 p.m. in the 1100 on north care line getting steel is breaking silence on what had them shut down in the first place. jeff hager joins us with detail. >> since the heyday, sparrows point spent workers home each winter, this time different, they shut down the furnace and laid off 700 workers with no mention of when they might return. the ceo revealed how close the company came to closing down for good, if not for a last ditch appeal. we need help, everything the government and labor can bring to save rg steel. we did the work, laid the ground work. it deserves to be saved. it's investing, not just taking over businesses, it's investing in putting money in to the mill, capital in it. >> reporter: rg steel purchased sparrows point inma. the iron costs and rumetting steel prices threatened to keep it out of business. it received a credit want to be tracked. pretty quiet for the moment at least here in baltimore. we know things set to change here tonight and in to the day tomorrow. the first half of our saturday. 32bwi, we have fall on the the freezing point. that means the road surfaces will fall down to where they support icy conditions. through the day nice, sunshine, upper 30s, never quite to 40 in most spots the state. that's our view in baltimore manor, sunshine and clouds rolling in. we saw the same scenario yesterday. the difference is the storm coming in tonight, is potent and two different disturbances coming together over the mid atlantic. this is going to pack more of a punch as it comes in. for the moment, we are clear as you head out and about on a friday evening, you are fine. if you are going to be out tonight, traveling past midnight, things are expected to go downhill. icy condition as good bet and icy accumulations towards the state line. here is the winter weather advisory from 11:00 p.m. through 1:00 p.m., most significant area of icing and icy accumulations will be northern maryland. this reaches to calvert cliffs and beyond. the lower eastern shore, temperatures likely too warm to support much other than rain. we think there will be slick conditions for all of central and western maryland, between that critical 12-hour period or so, midnight until noon on saturday. temperatures now beginning and continuing to fall, 3 above freezing in the city. below freezing frederick, hagerstown, georgetown freezing and cambridge, annapolis, 2 degrees above the freezing mark now. as we look at the pattern, see the clouds rolling in, more wintery weather developing towards ohio, rain showers moving up through virginia and tennessee and so both of these areas of precipitation coming together, the cold air locked in across maryland and it sets up for the classic rain, snow, wintery mix type ev see tonight and lasting in to the first half or so of your saturday. large area of snow across the upper midwest. significant rain showers to the south. we are in the squeeze play point and so as both disturbances move in in the next several hours, we will see flurries and snow showers, we will see things change to a sleet-snow mix towards day break tomorrow and sleet to freezing rain, briefly, then ending as rain showers. all of that happening in a 12- hour span. it's going to be interesting past midnight. here is midnight. see the snows across the state. rain showers further south and west, down on the lower eastern shore. as we push towards 6:00 a.m., we think we will get the snow- sleet mix going. briefly freezing rain after 6:00 a.m. in the morning before we go to all rain as this pushes out of here, including the eastern shore or past noon tomorrow. that's the critical time frame, we will watch for refreezing. above freezing during the day tomorrow. that will get melting. we have watch for refreezing tomorrow night. clear in to sunday as well. that's good news. travelers, driving to new england, realize it could be a tough road. they could get half a foot of snow towards foxboro saturday. we clear out or sunday. 30 overnight. 1-2 inches possible. 2 inches towards the pennsylvania state line. saturday 38. a icy mix. tomorrow night down to 24, we could see refreezing in spots. foxboro sunday looking cold and partly cloudy, but the difference will be the snow and the bheechers et cetera from -- bleachers, et cetera from the snow. as we look at the week ahead, weekend and the week ahead, if you are tailgating, friend's house, pub, things look fine sunday. next week, milder, we need a couple of days in the 50s next week. it's a wild winter. we get the winter blasts. that will probably be the most significant icy conditions on the roads so far this season. just realize tonight in to the morning, be careful. >> who has the advantage in new england if it's snowier there? >> i had a theory on houston that, that would be against them. i think baltimore, they are both northern teams. got it. all right. obviously as wyatt everhart said, winter is hit across the country with the west socked first and snow expected in the midwest. we
