Votes good afternoon, everyone. Months of campaigning, down to this. Thanks for joining us i m mark , hayes. Lisa and i m lisa cooney. Today could be a turning point for both republicans and democrats in the president ial race. We have Team Coverage of what s happening at the polls and the campaign trial. We start things off with wlwt news 5 s Brian Hamrick live with what voters are experiencing, when they cast their ballots. Brian we ve been to the board of elections at Hamilton County and several of the polls. We are seeing the same thing everywhere. A strong voter turnout, and few problems. Down at the board of elections in Hamilton County, there are dozens of people manning the phones. About 50 are dedicated to helping with any problems at the polls. So far, there have been few. Nothing like they had last november, when the epoll books created a major issue. Today, the calls of been with a turnout has been very heavy. So far today, 11 45, they had 79,000 voters turnout. That s out of about 550,000 registered voters in Hamilton County. We are saying may be 1 5 of the voters are out. Of those, as you would expect, a lot of Republican Voters today. About 48,000 of that 79,000 are republicans, for the first time, the board can get that information in turn it out in nearly realtime thanks to those ewhole books epoll books that epoll books that caused so much trouble last eleciton. This time they re working they way they re expected to and they re generating lots of information about what s happening at the polls. Sally kristol krisel we can track him any ballots are being used, if we need to get more ballots out to a precinct, brian they really get a good insight into what s happening they re directly connected. We ve had strong turnout here where we are in clifton. 79,000 people so far out of that 550,000. Comparing to last year, when the last elections where they had a heavy turnout, we can t do that, because they didn t have those numbers. They have them now. And it s thanks to those epoll books that was the problem in trouble last time. Live, Brian Hamrick, wlwt news 5. Lisa brian, thank you. People are lining up at the polls to make their voices heard. Reasons for showing up. Wlwt news 5 s dan griffin is live in Saint Bernard with what voters are telling him matters in this race. Good afternoon. Dan good afternoon, mark. It hasn t even been six hours since the polls have been opened, the people have a lot to say. There m at step out of the stop and going to step out of the shot. We ve been seeing lines all over, we were in sharonville earlier, we saw lines there is soon as they over, people were ready to go. Steady streams of voters have been here in st. Bernard this afternoon. Voters i talked with a random had very mixed messages. Some say they think it s time for conservative candidate to change the direction of the country. One man told me this race is historic, with a woman as president a possibility. And a woman i talked with told me her vote is part of the fight to knock one candidate out. Barbara clay to me, i think trump is the wrong choice if i be a part of not getting him in there, really. Tom orf i think we need a there to counteract, that s why dan some of the big topics i ve heard about as people left the polls today the size of re going to be hearing about today. Those polls are open until 7 30 tonight. Plenty more people with opinions and votes to cast. Griffin, wlwt news 5. Lisa dan, thank you. Five important states up for grabs today. Some are even going as far as calling a mega tuesday. The two jackpot states are florida and right here in ohio with the number of delegates up for grant. For grabs. Missouri and North Carolina are also weighing in today. So with ohio once again at the when the votes are finally counted, the governor of the Buckeye State hopes to score a big win against frontrunner donald trump. News 5 s todd dykes is live in the newsroom with the latest from both campaigns. Todd . Governor john kasich has to win s kasich voted this morning in westerville, north of columbus. When asked if he had any words for mister trump, kasich said he had nothing to say to the gop frontrunner. Kasich has tried to take the high road even though trump here s mind after he cast a vote for himself. John kasich i mean its a long road for me and i am very, very humbled by the campaign and the experience and the attention. You know attention and success it s not handled the right way and i try to check myself all the time, make sure that i m handling it the right way which is to be appreciative of the opportunity. Todd kasich says he s appreciative, but donald trump can t seem to understand why. Listen as he described kasich s campaign this morning on today. Donald trump well, he is 220 in terms of losing. He has lost every single state that he has been in and i tell president ial he has done very, very poorly and i have spent a lot of time in ohio. I was there last night in youngstown. And i want to tell you he is not such a popular guy. Todd trump went on to criticize kasich for appearing at a rally last night with former president ial candidate mitt romney, saying romney ran what may have been the Worst Campaign ever. For his part, kasich said Going Forward he will be forced to talk about deep concerns he has about trump s campaign. We will be mindful to find out what he has a say about that. In the newsroom, todd dykes , wlwt news 5. S karin township. How are things going out there . Karin so far so good here at when doors opened, two dozen people were on line waiting to get in. There s been a steady stream of voters since. Aside from the president ial primary, voters in this location the 8th Congressional District john boehner it s a litle confusing, beacause s 8th to vote twice. One vote will go toward the person you want to finish boehner s term, which ends next year. The other vote is for who you want to represent the district after the term expires. That election is getting a lot of talk out here but not as much as the president ial primary. Gloria johnson we are proud to say we voted for hillary. Ron johnson she s the only one really ready to step in to the oval office and do the job. Karin even that couple admitted a democratic vote, is rare in this part of town. One thing we are hearing about, crossover votes, where democrats are asking for a republican ballot, in efforts to change the outcome of the republican primary. Live in liberty township, karin johnson, wlwt news 5. Lisa thank you. Among the democrats, polls show it that lead may be. Some polls show a double digit lead over bernie sanders, others sides have been working to get s not winner take all, so a close race means a close split in the delegates awarded from ohio. S what s at stake in ohio the democrats are fighting over 143 delegates. They will be split proportionally based on today s vote. Mark on the republican side, it s a winnertakesall. So the primary winner today will get 66 delegates. Another decision today as voters head to the polls, centers around a rural village in butler county. Somerville residents will be voting on whether to dissolve the village. Right now, somerville is running on a 50,000 dollar, and some issues in the area, are being ignored. Last year, no one ran for mayor or village council, and the final two Council Members have resigned. If Voters Decide to dissolve, the village would be absorbed by milford township. Lisa before going to the polls, double check your polling location. You should bring a form of i. D. With you. If not, you ll have to cast a provisional ballot. In ohio, polls are open until 7 30 p. A message from tide you wlwt news 5. Leading the way. Ohio on this primary day, and voter turnout is described as risky. This is a live pic from clifton. Voters were waiting to cast their ballots when the doors opened at 6 30 this morning. Hamilton county Officials Say more than 14,000 votes were cast in the first hour the polls were open. The big thing bringing people to the polls today is the race for it is make or break for john mark he without a single primary win so far. A loss in ohio would almost certainly spell the end of his campaign. But ohio is still too close to call. Polls have bounced back and forth, showing a real fight between john kasich and donald trump. We ve seen both candidates very active in ohio over the past few days, an indication trump feels like he s got florida locked, so he can focus on the other big prize on the line today. Polls show a dead heat or a slight edge for kasich in ohio. Lisa here s a look at the delegate count right now, for the republicans. They need 1237 to clinch the nomination. Donald trump leads with 469. It s unclear right now, how many delegates he ll get by the end of the night, with his victories in michigan, and mississippi. On the democratic side, clinton has nearly twice as many d need about 1200 more to clinch the nomination. There have already been some problems at the polls. This was the scene at dater montessori in westwood. This polling site has about 3,000 registered voters. But we talked to a frustrated voter who recently moved from westwood to sharonville. The board of elections had told her she had to vote in westwood, but after a long process was told she needed to vote closer to her new home. Shamyra luckey i have to be at work in like half an hour.
