It is going to be a slow process to get that sunshine in the forecast. Here we are tracking more rain. Headed for charlotte and the i85. This is a tremendous amount of rain still coming down. This squall line of thunderstorms from hundreds of miles from virginia to the gulf coast. Four plus inches of rain. Two inches in asheville. Two and a half inches in places over the upstate. While some got less than that. 50s for your temperatures this evening in asheville. Dry with clearing. 40s by 11. Ill show you the bigger changes that lie beyond this system stick around for that. Larry heavy rain left parts of flood prone Biltmore Village impassable this morning. Darcel meteorologist karen wynne is live there right now. Karen look at all this mud on Sweeten Creek road. Mud and debris all over the road. And many of the sidewalks on Biltmore Village, too. Sweeten creek road was closed for about an hour this morning. Not too long. But long enough for merchants to voice their concern. Property owners began clearing storm drains on their own, the water receded before reaching her store. But it left a muddy mess and another problem. Safety issues. These sidewalks are slippery. Theyre dirty. Asheville is better than this. The city, the county and the state need to get together and fix the problem. Karen earlier we saw city workers cleaning off the storm drains with pitch forks. We spoke to another woman here in Biltmore Village, she says yes, live in Biltmore Village, im karen wynne, news 13. Darcel thanks, karen. Lets switch now to conditions in transylvania county. Larry meteorologist zack green joins us in brevard. How are things looking, zack . Zack the water has since receded. But it is certainly saturated and it is very soggy in the surrounding area. Right now it has actually drawn back. Rain this morning. Drivers were immediately deterred when coming across the high water. Even when they did cross it, debris left over caused hazards. Four trees were swept away. Were you thinking about going through . Yes. Yes. I was thinking of going through. Theres no need to risk. Zack thats what dot officials are saying as well. Earlier they had dropped down a sign saying high water was on the roadways. Then they placed these. You cant see it now but theres still high water underneath the bridge on Davidson River road. If you come to standing water that you take an alternate route to your destination. Larry Team Coverage continues in Henderson County several offices to close. The Beverly Hanks office had flash flooding more than a foot high. Also forced a Doctors Office to close. And by 9 oclock, 9 30, it was up over the road. And by 9 30 or 10 oclock, there was about two and a half feet of water in the deepest part in the middle of the parking lot right over there. Larry flower baskets in a nearby flower shop was damaged. Larry deputies responded to a 911 call early this morning and they found the body of timothy norris. Frank its tucked away in the woods, down a quiet road. Norris lost his life. Deputies arrived at the scene in the cashiers community and found norris body inside. He had been shot to death. Once sheriff investigators secured the seem, the state bureau of investigations crime team. He was just an awesome guy. Frank people who have lived in this area for generations. He cant believe someone he knew so well met such a violent end. You never know somebody could bounce in on you. You dont never know. You just dont know no more. Frank weve confirmed the 911 call was made from inside the norris home. Not been released. As the Crime Scene Investigation continues, the sheriff says people are being interviewed. At this point there are no suspects. Theres a Charter School across the road. But there was no threat to students or the community. In jackson county, frank kracher, news 13. Darcel all new at 6 00, a Yancey County man is accused of abusing an infant. 20yearold jacob howel. Howel is in jail tonight. His bond set at 90,000. No word on the childs condition. Police are investigating two breakins within days of each other at the same property. They happened off of hazel mill road in West Asheville at the site of a rental home thats under construction. Equipment that belonged to a construction company. No evidence left behind. This kind of petty theft is pretty common. So really the only way that we can help stop this kind of thing and tax these people is if we look out for each other. Report the suspicious activity to each other and also to the police. Darcel one neighbor posted the flyer on facebook. He said he appreciated letting his family know of the burglary nearby. If you have any information, contact the police. But once theres a storm, cars can be towed immediately. Your car breaks down on the highway. You leave it to get help. Hours later when you return, its gone. Thats what happened to teresa of canton on the morning of january 21st before the big storm. She says now we have to pay to a Wrecker Service ordered by the to try to make sure the interstate remains free. Frank normally they will mark a car with an orange sticker. Under normal circumstances, we will wait 24 hours. Frank but once the storm starts to fly, troopers say its anything but normal. Clear clearance law. Any investigating officer, if the dot agrees, can remove any abandoned or disabled vehicle. When plows start clearing the road, theres a risk. Statistics show five percent of traffic fatalities on the interstate involve a car. Knew the vehicle was there but there were people in it. I didnt know that so i pulled able to get these people out. Frank troopers say they were surprised at how few accidents were reported. Its a hazard and theres no telling how long its going to be there. Frank troopers say one of the biggest complaints is the coast of the towing bill. The state does have a cap on towing fees. Our neighbors towards the coast will have to deal with heavy rain this evening. Biggest concerns right now is the french broad at blantyre. The latest stage was just under that puts it in minor flood stage. If it goes up to 20 feet, that puts it in moderate stage before it starts to drop off to low flood stage. Avoid that area down there in blantyre. The bat fork creek in hendersonville is on the rise. Its going to go up and come down swiftly. All creeks and streams running fast as we speak. No rain for asheville. That is a sigh of relief for us. No chance tomorrow. In the mountains, 30 chance of snow returning to the mountains on friday. In is not going to be a big event. Nonetheless some flakes may fall in the tennessee border. A peak or two of sunshine cold front moving east lining up the midatlantic and southeast coast tomorrow even in to the evening.
