Reporter with so many tow trucks pressed in to service with conditions today, some were trying to find help wherever they can. Behind me, theyre still working on this tractor trailer. And if this driver was spinning his wheel, Antonio Johnson didnt stand a chance. The driver knows best. Should have stayed at the truck stop four miles down the road. Frank it depends on the time of day youre talking about, tammy. Earlier in the morning it was treacherous treacherous. A break in the snow pretty much midday and the plows were able to catch up. Heres the situation were talking about now. You can see that thermometer. Down. That means these roads are going to start getting slick again. The slush thats out there right now that you see is starting to freeze up. It will get treacherous. Midnight. They have 1200 miles of road in buncombe county that they have to keep scraping over and over falling. Theyre working in 12hour shifts. They say they hope to have secondary roads cleared off or to begin clearing those secondary roads off some time tomorrow. All the time to stay off the roads unless you have to be out there driving. There is a crash on the east bound side near the bowen bridge. A crash just before the brevard road exit. Lets take a look at the big picture just to give you an idea of how the roads are looking in our area. Parts of i26 and i40 were shut down earlier this morning. Rex tough going in weather like this. Some drivers getting stuck and abandonly their vehicles. Hes been busy with his business. Were just trying to get it back to shop where they can repair it. Rex the best advice for most. Stay home. Weve got nurses, physicians, ultrasound tech. Anything that might come up, theyre here for the next three days just in case the roads are a little messy sunday morning. Rex about 30 Staff Members spent thursday night and theyll do it again and again to ensure patient safety. That safety requires keeping the hospital emergency area and parking lot clear of snow. You have to really keep the sidewalks. Rex this snow fall will make travel difficult for a while. Its very slick. If you dont have to be out, id advise you to stay home. Because its really bad. Sometimes its been a little slow, coming to a crawl. This ramp, we have seen an 18wheeler stuck here for about 20 minutes trying to get up the ramp. He finally got up the road. On my right behind me, on i26, this is going toward asheville. This 18wheeler has been sitting here for about 45 minutes now. Were not really seeing too many drivers out on the roadway. The majority of 18wheelers, some personal cars. First i want to show you this video we shot earlier today of basically a rescue out on i26. This is the scene, a driver in what we think is a frontwheel drive volvo. The truck showed up, he pulled over. Folks got out and pushed that driver on the road and on their way they went. We spoke with a driver coming north from South Carolina about the conditions. The northern end of 25 is pretty slick. Weve seen a good many people set on the side road and they couldnt go. We just kept praying, lord, keep us moving. Kim this is what i was talking about, about the ramp. This is that 18wheeler. He could not get up the ramp here on upward road. His wheels kept spinning on the slick ramp. He eventually got up. Coming up at 6 oclock, we will take a look at hundreds of duke trucks. Why they headed out of asheville to help others in the area. Drivers had to get out and push their cars due to the slippery conditions. Temperatures there are expected the night. Tammy and freezing rain and snow have led to a slew of accidents in charlotte. The southwestern mountains, you have been spared a lot of the snow. Its going to be coming in areas. Temperatures are going to drop a little more for for cherokee, swain, macon county. This is the heaviest band over oconnee, jackson is getting it. Leicester and eventually clive and candler as well. Bands working over northern portions of haywood county. Heres that band again as i mentioned. North of waynesville, maggie valley. But youre going to get more of it. Look at all of this back behind the system. This is the upper level part spinning back here thats going to swing east. Good snows even through the eveving. Even in the overnight. Even in to early tomorrow. What you have on the ground now, add at least a couple of inches, if not four or five inches to that equation. Heres what you need to know and what to expect. Overnight periods of snow. Saturday morning, the snow shifts a little farther east and north. Saturday afternoon and evening, the snow will go back to the northwest and shift towards the mountains. Hard to see here but this little bit right here, this little ridge, this is a bank of snow. Just looking at it over a foot easily up there at nearly 5,000 feet. Storm threat remains highest for snow. Thats our Severe Threat in the mountains. We still have it coming down. Ice and sleet threat, really those are dropping. The wind threat is still a big deal. As the winds kick up, were in the upstate, still have that snow threat moderate. Theres the potential for more accumulating ice and power outages. Its dangerous to almost impossible travel. Life threatening. Have an emergency kit, shovels, blankets. Power goes out for many of us, especially rural locations. Heres the storm track. Goes northeast, hammers places along the appalachian train. There it is on the future cast. Break overnight. But here comes the snow showers for the northwestern corner of the mountains and its really going to snow off and on almost all day tomorrow before we start to quiet down and get sunshine back in the forecast some time in to sunday. Heres your snow fall future cast. How much more are we going to could see two to three inches in asheville. Up here, the smokys and the mountains, four, five, six inches. Transylvania county, another three or four. Look at the storm total. Were going over 16 inches in the purple. Over a foot in the pink. About 8 to 12 in the dark blue. Upstate youre also getting snow. Most of that is going to accumulate here in the next few hours. Temperatures in the 20s and teens. Black ice all over the place. Temperatures tomorrow in the 30s. Weweont really melt anything off.
