There are now 20 stormrelated deaths in North Carolina. The neuse river is expected to crest at record levels in kinston on friday. A mandatory Evacuation Order remains in effect for lenoir county. Part of i95 in Cumberland County is closed. And westbound i40 near benson also shut down. And just this evening governor mccrory received an additional federal disaster declaration for sampson and harnett counties bringing the counties getting federal help to 34. The big concern tonight swollen rivers. The tar, cape fear, lumber and neuse rivers threaten dozens of communities as water from matthew moves downstream. We start in princeville. Where water levels are still rising tonight. Crews started evacuating people there sunday. The tar river is cresting tonight. That town dealt a devastating blow from hurricane floyd back in 1999. In goldsboro flood waters the neuse river crested their this morning flooding nearby neighborhoods. Many roads are impassable tonight. Nearly two hundred people are in shelters. Meanwhile wayne county has lifted a mandatory curfew. Tonight Sampson County reeling from unprecedented damage. The flooding. Unlike anything. Anyone there has ever seen. Homes and farms under water. Some people using canoes to get around. The small town of ivanhoe just north of wilmington is seeing the worst damage. A fema team assesed dame a shelter remains open tonight at Union Elementary school in clinton. In moore county many People Living near the woodlake dam are staying put despite the governors warning to get out now. On monday night state inspectors found a hole the size of a large truck in the dam. National Guard crews have put sandbags around the structure to stabilize it. They also put in high volume pumps to lower the water level. But authorities warn if the dam fails itll take only 30minutes to wipe everything out. The woodlake years. The state issued a safety order in july of last year but the owner of the dam hasnt followed it. For now residents downriver from the woodlake dam are being blocked from returning to their homes until the threat of a breach is over. Destruction in lumberton is simply overwhelming. Chopper 11 hd over the scene today. Homes and businesses underwater from record flooding. The lumber river at record flood stage most of the week. Governor mccrory toured the storm damage this afternoon in Robeson County. Two Elementary Schools are underwater. Six shelters in the county. Full of people. two powered by generators only. At least 38 hundred people in 22 counties at least 38 hundred people in 22 counties are spending the night in one of 60 a couple on a roadtrip and taking a detour. Was swept off a highway in Robeson County as matthew hit us on saturday night. Rescuers pulled the husband to safety but the wife is still missing tonight. Whos wife is still missing. When they got caught in rising water at the height of the storm. I tho to die. I was scared, i was petrified, i was cold. I was thinking of my kids. Over the phone. David feldman says he and his wife barbara. Of almost 30 years. Were driving from south florida to new york for his fathers memorial. Their route. Taking them through Hurricane Matthews path in georgia. South carolina. And to the rising waters in North Carolina on i95. Wanting to stay the course. He finds an alternate route to 95 on 211 in lumberton. Couldnt tell how high it was because it was kind of dark. We were getting through all kinds of water and puddles on the way up, so i figured its just one more. What happened was i end up in the middle of this lake i couldnt believe it. I got up above water and i looked around, i didnt see her, i saw the car going down. He says he got out by the grace of god. Emergency crews pulled him to safety. But still havent found his wife. The Highway Patrol says theyve gotten of cars and people swept away. Still missing in this area. And worry they wont find survivors. Once the murky waters recede. Still. Feldman hopes his wife is the exception. I feel bad, like i got her into this, i just, you know, ask god to forgive me. Everybody loved her. I want to say still loves her because im not giving up hope. I95 still very dangerous. Highway patrol says avoid 95 and both lanes on 95 are closed between exits 15 and 56 from flooding. Feldman is back home with his kids in florida tonight. Says it was hard to leave without his wife. But says he needed to be with his kids. The car they were in was a rental. It was a blue toyota. With indiana plates. smithfield in recovery mode tonight after devastating flooding. The neuse river crested there on monday leaving homes and streets under water. Today, people returned to see whats left of their property. Many homes now caked in mud. People in one neighborhood are wondering if their houses need to be demolished. Several School Systems are still closed because of conditions in their communities. Or with the School Buildings themselves. And other schools are serving as shelters. Cumberland, edgecombe, halifax, harnett, hoke and Johnston County schools are closed tomorrow. So are nash city, wayne and Wilson County schools. Moore county schools will operate on a 2 hour delay tomorrow. A christian man who said he did was a better life beyond. And tonight, those of who knew and loved larry came to celebrate his life. In this world. Grateful for his company. In the wee hours of monday october 3rd the world lost a gentle giant of a man. He was one of the most remarkable servants the world has ever known. We gathered in new hope chuh. Who eulogized larry. Was the same man who baptized him here 3 years ago. Larrys wife bobbi led the family in. Her soul mates ashes carried in by an air force honor guard. On thursday when the van was delivered to our house mom said, how strange that a man so big ciuld be reduced to somethign so small. New tonight the Highway Patrol identifies the man killed by a trooper monday night in lumberton. Authorities say a trooper and two sheriffs deputies were conducting search and rescue operations on west fifth street. When they encountered they say hunt became hostile and showed a gun. Trooper sergeant jf hinson then shot and killed hunt. Hinson is now on administrative leaveas the sbi investigates. In alamance county. The search for a man deputies say kidnapped and raped an 11 year old girl. It happened yesterday morning as the girl was waiting for her school bus. She was able to get out of the car when emergency vehicles showed up. But the kidnapper got away. Police think hes driving a blueish gray. 4 door 90s model sticker on the back window.
