History is on trumps side. Since 1980, no republican candidate has won both the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries as trump has and gone on to lose the nomination. And in the democratic race, a similar is Hillary Clinton slowly making her way to the nomination with a win in nevada yesterday . And South Carolina all but candidates fan out across the country tonight, beginning with katy tur in atlanta, where trump held a rally beautiful. Thank you. Reporter Donald Trumps grip on the nomination is getting tighter, and he knows it. Bragging to a crowd of more than 5,000 in atlanta. We won tall people, short people, fat people, skinny people. Just won. Reporter trump sweeping all of South Carolinas congressional districts, banking all of the egates despite marco rubios high profile endorsements and ted cruzs focus on evangelicals. That means going forward, since the field is winnowing, hes going to have to gain notin support. And if this crowd here in georgia is any indication, the campaign is confident they will be able to do that. Kate. Katy tur outtrump. Marco rubios very narrow secondplace finish in South Carolina over ted cruz was enough to give him new energy today as he tries to establish himself as trumps topgabe gutierrez is in arkansas tonight with the rubio campaign. Gabe . Good evening. Despite not having won a single primary, marco rubios campaign feels it is building momentum, having rebounded from that finish in New Hampshire. Ideas matter. Policy matters. Reporter for the kind of candidate he tried to be. I have stood my ground, refusing to bend to the political whims. Reporter but the political tornado that is trump battered bush with insults that stuck. I know youre trying to build up your energy, but its not working. He has failed in this campaign. Its been a total disaster. Nobody cares. Reporter bush was knocked off balance and faded in a crowded field. Punching back with confidence came too late.
