This is where relatives, and loved ones of 9 11 victims are gathering today area marking the 15th anniversary of the terror attack. Now, they are reading names out loud, and memorializing the people who died on that day, more than 3000 people perished in the terrorist attacks. The 9 11 terrorist attack that killed nearly 3000 people, on that day, and destroyed the lives of many more, since then. Jay gray has more from ground zero where that memorial is being held. It was debris falling from the tower, it was pitch black outside. Reporter 15 years. People started screaming, and running and saying run for your life started to run, and run, and what was happening was a tower was collapsing. Reporter the memories, and images have yet to fade. Nor, has the result. Literally, out of the ashes we have rebuilt stronger, and taller. Reporter in new york, washington, and shanksville, there are reminders every day. But on this day, the anniversary of the attacks, the nation pauses to remember. And reaffirm a commitment to 2996 a promise made by firefighters, who raised this American Flag from the rubble that day. The symbolism, of what they did, in raising that flag, is really what resonates with people. Reporter they iconic symbol has been lost for more than a decade. Its a really special day for everybody to keep all of our heroes in the mind, and to never forget. Im really happy to be here and performing on 9 11. I havent ever performed on 9 11 before. Its really great to be part of the family here. Reporter you are only five years old, but there are things you definitely remember . It was a crazy day. I remember hiding in my b asement, with my mom, my little brother. He was only like 23. It was extremely scary. I am so blessed to have my dad here with me today. Yeah, he is always my hero, no matter what. Reporter he had a long life of service, and retired now, like you said you are so lucky to have him home with you. Put it into perspective, why they should never forget, and every day i wake up and thank god that i still have my dad, in my life, he has not only my hero but my best friend. He holds my family together, and so incredible that he is still here, and part of the experience. It so great to even say. It feels so real that he was a part of that. You have so many Strong Families here today. I have the tightest daddy Daughter Relationship you could ever imagine. He literally has dedicated his life to making my dreams come true, as a singer. So, it disguise that he had to retire. He was injured on the job during the recovery mission, the whole thing, and then yes, he just dedicated his life to being my manager, taking on the road and bring me to places i needed to be to make my dreams come true, take over the world with me. He is my partner in crime, and i am so thankful he is part of this. It is nice to hear the perspectives of people there remembering loved ones who have connections to new york reporter it is so special. And even more so special, that they are wearing these lanyards, round or next, with a very important picture of individuals on them. This is randy payne, he is one of the race coordinators for tunnels to towers here in ohio, this is what we are talking about. Explain who stephen is and who are the other firefighters on these lanyards . Stephen was a firefighter that heard what happened on the morning of the attack, jump his truck, ran to the entrance of the brooklyn tunnel, it was close, he threw his gear on, ran 23 two miles through the tunnel, jumped in a fire truck on the other side and perished that day along with many others. Each of our satellite runs have something unique about them, that is the great thing about medina, we give everyone that participates one of these lanyards that has a picture, and inside the envelope they get a story, so they know a little bit more about who they are running for today. And honoring, as we hold runs like this all around the country. Reporter for the correct, we do. We also honored other detectives, and military personnel and others that were lost. Clinton Cyber Security issues, trumps take on vladimir putin, among topics. The first president ial debate is on september 26. My goodness, the sound and the fury will not go away here. The candidates keep coming and keep coming. Can donald trump have it and refocus, and reinvent himself before the last seven weeks of he has not done for the last 16 months . And not with the comments he still has affection for vladimir putin, and flat out lies with his stance on a rock. The guy is still unstable, and unfit for any potential consideration to the office of the presidency. Bob, can he do a 180 here . I dont think he needs to do a 180, if you look at what the National Polls are showing over the course of the last couple of weeks they have narrowed very because in the battleground states where Hillary Clinton had a doubledigit. Lead, italy for most of the summer, it is gone. What he is doing is resonating with people. What he said about donald trump being unfit for any level of elected office, or commanderin chief, i would say the exact same thing, except substitute Hillary Clinton name in that. She is not calling for she did not have any kind of things to say about our adversaries, and russia, then youve got donald trump saying that he will continue to show affection to putin if he likes them. Its crazy. It and say affection, he said he took the mans endorsement, not endorsement, you might as well have taken an endorsement. He said i will take the compliment. Who do you think came out looking more president ial and commanderinchief where the . It was hillary. Look at her command of the issues, and you look at the fact matt lauer dropping e ball with any substantial followup questions to donald trump. You have hillary being able to talk to the issues, that is what matters. Hillary clinton told the fbi, we found this out on friday, told the fbi that she thought the little sea, and brackets on all of the documents she got was off of medical order, even though there were no other letters, she did not think it was classified, either she is lying or completely competent. She has no business being near the armed forces let alone been he has had big rallies, now we had a couple of of pocket size events, hastily organized, media not invited to one. No audience, what you think about that approach . Hastily organized, is right, but i think there are broader issues of his campaign. He is getting out messages more, but as we saw this week the commander in chief forum when he did not have the teleprompter in front of him he had multiple he made multiple symbols. Im he did he spent seven of the 30 minutes talking about Hillary Clinton not being trusted. She put National Security in jeopardy, she put our classified information at risk for hackings. We may not know how much they have, until she takes office, if that happens. [all talking at once] the races very close, and it will be a nonstop parade here for the remainder. With all of the sound if youre in the president ial race, let there is congressional races too, and greater cleveland, we can already predict the winners. Incumbents had down. 16 district republican. Eleventh district incumbent. Who is paying attention . Even the city club, the last batch of free speech is pulling the plug on debates on these lopsided races. We are faced joyce 2 years ago. Underdogs disappointing the city club, other institutions are bailing on debates. It is very difficult, for challengers to reach voters. It was disappointing and regrettable. I think the city club is one of the great institutions of greater cleveland, and the debate was something that they would embrace now for decades. We did events last year, we sold eight tickets. Our committee decided that it probably wasnt worth the effort. Is that a sad commentary on the state of affairs . I think so. In the end, we determined that doing debates the way that we had always done them was not the way to go. The city club will still have debates, and the senates, am waiting to hear your first person expert experience. Should we all be shaming ourselves because all of the congressional candidates are getting a free pass in a free ride . You look at the real villain here, it is gerrymandering, and you look at the organizations, i would turn them here on you and wkyc. You guys have the opportunity to give underdogs platforms, a the media, as a whole, youre correct. I would turn to you and say why didnt wkyc sponsor these debates . I think the challenges and the root of gerrymandering, and the fact that we, as a stay, need to move in that direction, which we are. But have less of these extreme districts. We know incumbents have a huge advantage because recognition, familiarity, fundraising, unless one of them has a Charlie Weiner moment, everyone is going to get reelected. So, bob, what you think the answ incumbents dont just automatically get a free pass . I think, what you said at the beginning, is exactly right. It is to our great shame. There isnt enough interest in this. Everyone is focused on this president ial race. I understand why. These congressional races matter. Control of Congress Matters but you said it yourself, incumbents obviously have the advantage of name recognition of familiarity. How do you get that without without getting opportunities on television or radio. I want to bring these people on, i want the unknowns to talk. The city club has had debates, where the incumbents, not to their advantage to that the party on the stage, where the incumbent doesnt show up and do the debate with the old empty chair, theres no purpose in that. Should these incumbents have an obligation, even if it is not politically smart or advantageous, to get on the same stage and give their opponents an opportunity to face off with yeah, they should be strong enough, and their positions, that they can go head to head with anybody. I think it is too bad for the discourse, but i think it is the root of the cause, it is jerry who has pushed certain districts all of the districts here are pretty much ironclad for the comments. I think it is up to the media to shame those and comments that will not share a stage, to prove they have no i know some of these challengers who could do really well. I know Beverly Goldstein very well. Lets get them on a stage together. If she were not do it, then i think the media needs to call them out. Collectively, we need to raise our game, i think. Lower courts have gone back and forth, now the question will ohio voters get to register and vote in the same week . Known as golden week. Tens of thousands ohioans registered and voted, that we, lasher. Most dates do not have this. Ouston, argues that ohioans have more opportunities to vote than those elsewhere. American africanamerican voters take advantage of this. It is not a right the judges have ruled and been overruled and gone back and forth. Emma kratz helping the eight Member Supreme Court puts it back. All right, the democrats represent that this was all done by republicans, because many of the people have taken american community. What are the republicans afraid of. Let the people who have a right to vote, have the flexibility. If they have moved, if they need to go in and have flex ability with her schedule, i do not get what the beef is here, other than the fact they want to continue to disenfranchise potential voters, and it really comes down to disenfranchising a lot of the africanamerican communities, and folks that do not have the luxury of being in the same place. Voting rights act, and the higher court said no, it is not. Your take on this . You know, this ridiculous notion of disenfranchisement, it is something that the left is constantly focused on. It was a solution in search of a problem. There was not a problem. Why it is that there is a prominent number of one race, or one ethnicity or demographic that uses this, more than another, i have no idea. Heard it there, it is not a right, its not a constitutional right to do this at the same time. It didnt need to be done in the first place. I do not know what the democrats are afraid of, are you suggesting people of certain demographic cannot go register at one time and go vote a second time. What is the need to have to do this all at one time . It is the voting. People that are legally about allowed to vote, let them go. What would make it easier is if we have photo identification that everybody had to have. 13 states dc have the same privilege. The question is, if you have it and it is providing an opportunity why rollback . Why is 37 states missing . Why would they be opposed if this is such a grand idea. If we had a system, and place, where you had to register at your local board of elections and you vote at your local precinct before, i have no idea why they cannot do that.
