Senior Health correspondent Monica Robins join us live from the clinic to explain what it took to give one mother a second chance. reporter good evening. progress. its still elective surgery and for many, women can survive without a uterus. however, its medical progress that gives hope to 50,000 women in the u. S. Who were born without a uterus and thousands more who have had their irreparably damaged. 26yearold lindsay is mom to three adopted foster children but the woman born without a uterus has the option of a biological birth now that shes the nation first uterus transplant patient. shes one of ten women in Cleveland Clinics research study. each between 21 and 39. they must have six to ten viable embryos. a year after surgery, one will be implanted at a time. they can try up to ten times. and then thats where we stop. because its an experimental fees are paid through Cleveland Clinics research fund. its voluntary. women really want to have this done. the uterus is not part of typical organ donation. the liver, heart, kidney, thats what we routinely get. with the face transplant or the uterine transplant. thats separate. its an important discussion organ donors should have with families. women who may be candidates include those born without a uterus. those who have had early hysterectomy or those who have had surgical cancer and have had the uterus removed. this isnt standard of care at this point. its not an option for every woman with this condition. but the hope is that in the future this may be an option for these women to start a family. now as linsey recovers, her ovarian function will resume, it will start producing estrogen, which will stimulate the uterus to build a lining or the endometrium. and then shell have a period. and a year from now well find out if its successful. is it possible for the women to become pregnant naturally without invitro fertilization. no because she doesnt have fallopian tubes. she has the womb in tact, she doesnt have fallopian tubes. natural pregnancy wouldnt be possible. politics now, president ial candidates will be all over ohio this week with the crucial ohio primary just a week away. but a new issue has cropped up for republicans. senior Political Correspondent tom shows us how the balance could confuse voters. some republicans asking why am i voting for president ial delegates twice. once for at large delegates. just below for district delegates. the republican primary ballot is very confusing. the american policy round table red flagged the issue. they have places for you to vote for each. if the winner takes all, how do you determine a winner. do you count at large delegates and district delegates. you cant split them. this happened after republicans, seemingly to help john kasich switch to a winner takes all district system. Elections Officials puzzled too. i know very little at this point in time. i was made aware of this last week when i saw it on facebook. its my understanding that delegates at large will be reported to the secretary of state. and those are the votes and the candidates that will be tabulated and reported down and those are the ones that will determine who will be who if you like your candidate for president , vote for that candidates at large delegates and vote for that candidates Congressional District delegates. its ultimately the at large outcome correct. thats correct. why would anybody vote for two. republicans will see candidates who have dropped out. democratics choose 143 of 159 delegates. their ballot, no room for doubt. tom beres. some nurses are traveling across the country to support democratic candidate bernie sanders. we always say nurses always interest. interest.
