Why all of a sudden are we seeing some action . There were a bunch of legal hurdles that had to be cleared. We had to give these folks an opportunity to give these folks the beds in a shelter. We didnt have enough beds to accommodate this. Weve worked closely with the Business Community and the Salvation Army and today we were able to secure 82 beds in the facility. Now that we have the beds, we come down here and make the announcement. You can go to the Salvation Army, take your belongings with you, youll be treated with dignity and respect. If you have somewhere else to go, you can pack up your stuff and youre free to go. But if you refuse to leave, in that case then i have to enforce the camping ordinance to make an arrest. At the end of the day, weve seen what has happened here is the Public Safety and a Public Health issue. Its a Public Health issue for the folks who are here. Ive had officers embedded in here. Were going to release video thats shocking of what occurs here after dark. There are people being held, in my belief, against their will. When crimes occur theyre being told alleged to be aclu representatives not to talk to the cops, stash your drugs and booze and police cars coming down the street, its not what this is supposed to be about. This has really taken off in a different direction. Were trying to assist everybody to get to the Salvation Army or in some cases, if they have a neighbor or somebody who is going to take them in, well assist them in getting there. Theres a lot of people here and a lot of their belongings. How are you organizing this and getting the people with their stuff and getting into the shelter and getting them off this property . The Salvation Army is providing a bus. They have pods and everything to handle those items. I have a huge pod at Police Headquarters that if somebody cant take their stuff and wants to leave can certainly turn it in to us and be marked and taken care of and they can pick it up at a later date. We understand the situation. But there has to be a mix here health and yet maintain as much dignity as they can. Thank you, chief. Appreciate your time. Just minutes ago, the Police Department came out saying everyone here on this property has to leave, whether its going home, going to a shelter, or if they stay here, they will be arresting for violating the camping ordinance. Well keep you posted on air and online at clickorlando. Com, powered by news 6. Lots of interesting developments there. Thank you. He says the female suspect was shot in the arm and then taken into custody with the other two men. Witnesses say it appeared they tried to ram the police cruisers. The car was turning around to leave the parking lot. And the officers had already blocked off the parking lot. So, yeah, i think the intention of the driver was probably to leave at all costs.
