But our top story right now, a lawsuit is filed to stop orlando city leaders from selling a plot of land to orlando city soccer. That was land was supposed to be the home of the teams new stadium. But some say the sale is illegal. Heres more from city hall with the latest. We were the ones that actually showed this lawsuit to mayor buddy dyers office in the first place. They say at first glance, it doesnt look like they violated any statutes. But the people who filed it say they have. News 6 was the only station at the Orange County courthouse this afternoon as this lawsuit was filed to stop the sale of land to orlando city soccer. The city of orlando wants to sell this nearly 12 acres of land that will house the new soccer stadium to the team. The price tag, just more than 2 million. But a group of paramour area businesses and Community Groups claim it is not legal. Orlando is violating the law. Shes the spokeswoman for the group and she says the reason its against the law is because the city used the Eminent Domain law to get the land in the first place. The lawsuit claims the city has owned the land less than 10 years. They did not allow the original owners to repurchase it before selling to the team. They also, according to the lawsuit, did not open the land up to competitive bidding. That, the suit claims, is against the law. Work is already well underway for the stadium, which is already sidelined by delays. You broke the law so i suppose to say, well, its okay, youve gotten all of this sewer done and everything done and im supposed to look the other way. No orlando city commissioner regina hill says shes concerned. Shes actually heard from some businesses that their business has dropped off dramatically because of the construction in the area. Shes hoping some redevelopment grants may help them stay in business. Eric sandoval, news 6. Whether the sale is blocked will be up to a judge. Now offices inside that building are having to work elsewhere because police say a homeless man went after a county employee. News 6 reporter loren korn has the details on the fight against homelessness from Volusia County. Its been just a domino effect for the last month or so. Right now, its only the Property Appraisal Office thats closed. But the county says by the end of the week, the whole building will shut down because of this behind me, 100 or so Homeless People camping outside the building with nowhere to go. They wont be leaving anytime soon until theres a solution. At 5 00 this evening, Salvation Army came and brought a bus to take some of the people to the shelter, but its just a temporary fix. Some people loaded up on to at a temporary shelter while the county and city continue battling it out over what to do with the homeless, whos been camping outside the Volusia County administration center. Theyre getting out of an unfortunate situation and going there because they know theyre not going to get arrested and there are Services Provided there. The safe zone for the homeless turned into a safety issue with the property appraisers office. They say a homeless man accosted an employee. The county says the building will eventually close. Thats the only thing closed right now. Everything else hes trying to find a place for them to go. Frustrating some residents who now have to go to another city or online for services. I dont have a problem with online. But i want a staff so i can speak to somebody. I need a person in front of me to answer questions for me. I dont want to deal with online. While county employees are moving to offices in de land and new smyrna beach, the issue on where to put the homeless is at a boiling point. The city to make the next move and the Current Situation isnt good for anyone. Its really sad to see on all levels, from a humanistic and my views on homelessness and how we are handling it as far as a community to the business side of it, how it looks, how were handling it. The county says the city has until march 3rd to decide on safe harbor. The county will put up the 4 million for the property and building that will house 250 beds located next to the jail. Its just the city that will have to provide the operational costs. In daytona beach, loren korn, news 6. Thank you.
