It happened a little over a week ago on january 16th in orlando. But first, lets take a look at store security video. Officers make a traffic stop on a stolen white charger at 5100 north lane. Thats when the three suspects in the car tried to get away. It appears at one point officers tried to break the window but just does not stop the suspects. The car backs up and then tries to take off and heres what happens next from a different angle. One officer opens fire. This is body cam video from officer jonathan mills. You can hear them warn the driver and then the gunshots when the car comes right at him. Police park. Put it in park now, the officer shot the laymans who crashed into a vacant home but survived. He now faces felony charges for aggravated assault on an officer with a car. The two other suspects in the car got away, officer mills was not hurt in the incident. Hes on paid administrative leave until the fdle finishes their investigation. All right, shaun. Thank you. Also breaking right now, Florida StateUniversity Just settled a title ix lawsuit with a former student who accused former quarterback Jameis Winston of raping her back in 2012. She has agreed to drop her lawsuit. Fsu will give her 250,000 and pay her attorneys 700,000. In the deal fsu is not admitting any wrongdoing. Winston was never charged and fsu did not find him guilty of sexual miss conduct. Right now, the death toll from this weekends blizzard in as officials in some of the biggest cities encourage people to be patient. The storm is over, but the clean upis just beginning. Baltimore mayor says its going to take time. The snow removal operations are far more complicated than just pushing three or four inches off to the side. Early estimates say this storm could cost between 350 to 700 million to clean up. That includes lost wages, lost snow. Were going to have a full report and more on flight delays coming up at 4 30. Closer at home, investigators in Daytona Beach believe a space heater is to blame for sparking a house fire earlier today. One person was home when it started but he got out safely. Sky 6 flew over the scene along simpson road, not far from Gateway High School and the turnpike. Us a lynx bus and two vehicles were involved in a crash. This is what we know so far. Fire rescuers tell us 20 people were on board the bus. A few had minor injuries but so far no one was taken to the hospital. Were working to find out what caused this crash. And here is a live look for you right now outside on i4 at colonial drive. The cars on the left side of the screen are traveling westbound. Traffic is starting to pick up and fill in for us this afternoon. That is causing a minor delay for drivers. Eastbound is also stop and go. Give yourself extra time if youre heading out the door. Here are the drive times for you. This afternoon, the Orlando City Council is getting ready to finalize a big sale to orlando city soccer. The city is voting to sell the land that the soccer stadium will sit on to the soccer team. But news 6 is finding out some that from happening. News 6 reporter Eric Sandoval spoke with those residents today. Why do they want to stop it . Well, actually theres major developments happening right now in this story. They say this transaction is illegal. And within the last hour, they have actually filed this lawsuit, trying to stop this sale from happening. We were actually at the Orange County courthouse today following them inside the courthouse when they filed this lawsuit. Also, within the last five minutes, the Orlando City Commission has approved this deal. But even if theyve approved it, the transaction could be dead in its tracks. News 6 was the only station at the Orange County courthouse this afternoon as this lawsuit was filed to stop the sale of land to orlando city soccer. The city of orlando wants to sell this nearly 12 acres of land that will house the new soccer stadium to the team. Million. But a group of paramour area businesses and Community Groups we know that the city of orlando is violating the law. The spokeswoman for the group says the reason its against the law is because the city used the Eminent Domain law to get the land in the first place. The lawsuit claims the city has owned the last less than 10 years. They did not allow the original owners to repurchase it before selling to the team and according to the lawsuit, they did not open the land up to competitive bidding. That, the suit claims, is against the law. Work is already well underway for the stadium which has already been sidelined by delays. You broke the law so i supposed to say, well, its okay, youve gotten all of this sewer done and everything done and im supposed to look the other way. No now, turns out we were the ones that alerted the Mayors Office that this lawsuit had been filed in the first place. I had asked him for a comment and they said they didnt know anything about it. Its been a domino effect for the last month or so. Right now, its the property the workers there working out of de land or New Smyrna Beach frustrating some residents here. By the end of this week, were told the whole building will shut down, you know, because the homeless are not leaving anytime soon until they have a place to go. Im homeless. I have nothing. Shes just one of 120 Homeless People whos been camping out at the Volusia CountyAdministration Center for weeks. Officials saying its become a safe place for them to congregate. Over time, people are coming out of the woods, coming out of back alleys, getting out of jail and getting out of an unfortunate situation and going there because they know theyre not going to get arrested and there are Services Provided there. But the safe haven isnt safe for county employees. The Property Appraisal Office closing its doors on monday and relocating after police say a homeless man accosted a county employee. I want a person to speak to answer questions for me. I dont want to deal with online. Volusia county says the whole building will soon follow. Thats the only thing closed right now. Right now, hes trying to find a place for them to go. While county employees are shifting around the issue on where to put the homeless remains. The county told the city to think of a shortterm solution, so they started working with the salvation army. Theyre working on that. Salvation army spent the day giving out food and supplies and will be able to house 46 more people for the time being. But the county says its waiting for the city to make the next move. As far as the countys standpoint, i dont know much more that we can do. Weve done everything weve gone over and beyond what we originally said we would do. Were at a stalemate. Now, again, the county says the city has until march 3rd to decide if they want to move forward with safe harbor. The county says it will pay 4 million for the building, the property. Have 250 beds but the city has to come up with the money for the operational costs and thats exactly what theyre waiting on. Back to you. Thank you. A truck slammed into a home, leaving behind a gaping hole. Now the roommate of the owner of that truck is being questioned. Our crews spoke with the homeowner on overdale road who says the driver also hit a power pole, and a couple of cars. News 6 reporter mark lehman tells us about the possible connection to the truck owners roommate in this crash. Witnesses say the truck carved out a clear path of destruction along this Orange County street. This is where the driver slammed into a buick suv, scattering debris everywhere. The truck kept on going. This is where the chainlink fence was flattened. The truck continued in the front yard and into the front bedroom of that home. With temperatures in the 30s tomorrow, herb bates was forced out into the cold to repair a gaping hole to his home. And i didnt know what happened. That explosion was the sound of this Toyota Pickup truck before sunrise bait says it plowed through a window and drywall, stopping just a few feet from his own bedroom. I could see the truck in the room across the street. It wasnt supposed to be a car in the house. Its a crash that began several hundred feet away. A driver crashed into a pole and two other cars during a rampage that ended with bates staring the driver in the car. He was revving up the car, trying to back out. The truck was left behind but the driver ran off before troopers arrived. Investigators say today a man was detained and later released when witnesses could not positively i. D. The driver, that man whose roommate owns this truck is still being questioned as the investigation continues. It is real scary. Im still kind of shook up. Youre not expecting that kind of stuff. The homeowner says he will be able to continue living here as his home. With all the damage, the repairs could take several weeks. For now, reporting in Orange County, mark lehman, news 6. Thank you. In Volusia County, were learning more about a fire at a building that was in the process of being transformed into a mosque. The state fire marshal says they do not think this was the result of a hate crime. It all happened in Daytona Beach, just a few blocks from nova road. It used to be a ymca. But the Islamic Center bought it recently to turn it into a place of worship. When firefighters got there, smoke could be seen coming from the building. The smoke was contained to one room, the buildings gymnasium. The fire marshal said there were no signs pointing to a hate crime or arson. Theyre still investigating and say theyll have an update later this week. Well, right now, at least 36 deaths are linked to the blizzard that pounded much of the east coast over the weekend. Many died shoveling the from the carolinas to new york. Passengers were also left stranded in airports. Cbs reporter Craig Boswell has the story. Snow blowers, shovels, and bulldozer are a necessity in the Nations Capital monday to clear a path through about two feet of snow. Some vehicles still couldnt make it through. Residents helped this truck driver get back to work. Huge mountains of snow are next piled up next to streets. Government offices and schools monday. Palm bay police tell florida today the woman saw the claws come out and her husband was in danger and she jumped into action. Three flight attendants and four passengers were transported. None of the injuries were lifethreatening. Passengers say the whole ordeal was nerveracking. When the plane got into the turbulence, it hit like a big dip and thats when flight attendants were without seat belts and they hurt themselves and then the other people, i guess people passed out, because it was scary.
