School bus crash and overturned in Baltimore County injuring several students. What police are saying happened. Good afternoon. Heres what people are talking about today. Its the developing story in Baltimore County this morning. A school bus en route to Pikesville Middle School over turns leaving half a dozen people injured, five of them students. Wjz is live at greenspring avenue and hillside. Mike schuh has the latest. Good afternoon. Reporter good afternoon. This is a single vehicle accident. Something happened that within a span of about 3 football fields it fish tailed, hit a small bridge and was going backwards as it flew into a small creek. When you look at a school bus facing the wrong way on its side is, ten feet down in a stream you fear the worst. Not the way we want to start friday morning. We have been lucky. Here are the extent of the injuries. 11 patients with no significant injuries. This is what it looks like inside. Ten Pikesville Middle Schoolers were thrown about. They scramble out the back and through this roof hatch. They quickly determined that all the occupants of the bus had selfevacuated. Five are rushed to the hospital. Parents take others to their doctors. A couple of them went to school. This is a narrow lane cutting downhill through estates and farm. It is a moist, dew morning. Reporter investigators really paying a lot of attention to the marking on the grass and roadway. Theres a substantial lip on this road. It appears that all of the wheels on the right side of the bus dropped off this lip and then the skid begins here and ends at the accident scene. This is still an active investigation. The Baltimore County police crash team, which is a Speciality Team can look into significant incidents like this. Theyre on the scene. This bus is four years old. The driver will be drug and alcohol tested. Looking at this, those on the scene this morning breathe a sigh of relief. My gut reaction as a parent and Baltimore CountyPublic Schools employee was fright. I cant imagine the fear of the parents when the parents came to pick up their kids from the accident. Reporter two of the kids were taken to hopkins. How violent was this crash . We see these all the time. This one was in that stream. After they pulled that bus out there were two cameras aboard, one facing back, two forward, investigators are going to use that. All kids are offered counseling. Im mike schuh reporting live. Thank you. Police arent say whether or not when their investigation will be complete. New details about the woman who tried to beech security at the white house yesterday. Susan mcginnis reports for wjz, family members say her mental state probably played a role. Cbs news has learned that before crashing her car, 34yearold miriam kerry made statements to police that president obama was listening to her and communicate being her. Police in stamford, connecticut tell john miller sometime after she was fired from her job as a dental hygienist officers questioned kerry when people became concerned about her end many men about her mental state. Theyre going back over the reports about her mental state, when did it start to become an issue. Capitol police and secret Service Agents shot kerry multiple times and killed her during a wild chase from the white house to the capitol that was partly caught on camera. Kerry was not armed. Officers are being questioned ae use of deadly force. Capitol police work ing ing without pay say kerry used her car as a weapon. Officers say they opened fire because they saw her as a threat. Sourcing tell cbs news kerry had fallen and hit her head and after wards her behavior changed. Relatives and friends suggest she was battling depression. Her 1yearold daughter who was in the backseat was not hurt and is now in protective custody, susan mcginnis, wjz Eyewitness News. Authorities also say last year kerry was sued by her condo association. The Government Shutdown is now in the 4th day without end in site. There would be welcome news for federal workers. House and Senate Lawmakers propose legislation this week to retroactively pay the roughly 800,000 federal workers who are furloughed. While the shut down continues theres new hope for a debt limit deal. House Speaker John Boehner told fellow lawmakers we wont allow the to default even if it means compromising the democrats.
