here's what people are still talking about today. four people being dead after a driver goes the wrong way on a divided highway and slams into someone unsuspecting. now as investigators figure out what led up to the crash, they released the name of the dead driver who was going the right way. andrea fujii live with more on this investigation. >> reporter: good afternoon, everyone. police say the fourth victim, a man from severna park was going the right way when he was hit head-on. it was 3:30 saturday morning when police say a car was going west in the eastbound lanes of route 50 in davidsonville striking a car going east. it was a head-on collision that ended in a fire. killed in the car going the right way was 55-year-old terry davis. in the other car were 18-year- old brianne that franco and zachary rose and 19-year-old brittany walker. norman walker tells wjz it was his granddaughter brittany who was behind the wheel of the car going the wrong way. >> i told her to be careful. she said she would. i don't know if alcohol is related or not. i just don't know. >> reporter: police haven't determined if she was the one behind the wheel or if alcohol played a role in the crash. >> i would just hold her and tell her i love her. >> reporter: mr. walker says his granddaughter told him she was going to a party with friends at about 11:00 and never came home. don, back to you. >> thank you very much. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a plane from here to crash just over the border in pennsylvania. it left fredericks airport yesterday morning and two hours later crashed near the airport in new york, pennsylvania. the pilot 56-year-old douglas helms of westminster is dead. it's the second fatal crash near the york airport in a little more than a month. a homicide investigation is under way in prince george's county after a man is pulled from a well. this weekend 53-year-old lennie harris' remains were recovered from a well behind an unoccupied home in fort washington. harris, a well known activist in northern virginia disappeared last september. so far the cause of death has not been released. the fight over same-sex marriage is about to begin in annapolis as now those on both sides of the issue start making their issues. we have more on a controversial legislative proposal. >> reporter: good afternoon to everybody at home. opponents of same-sex marriage will rally tonight in annapolis. a coalition of community and religious leaders will call on lawmakers to protect traditional marriage. governor martin o'malley is vowing to fight hard for marriage equality while urging everyone to choose their words carefully. this comes after first lady katie o'malley called several lawmakers cowards for failing to pass same-sex legislation last year. she has since issued an apology. a "washington post" poll released yesterday shows 50% ever marylanders support same- sex marriage with 44% opposed to it. a senate committee is scheduled to examine that bill tomorrow. it's less than 24 hours before voting begins in the florida primary. the new front runners are out making their final pushes in the sunshine state. daniel nottingham has the late foas wjz. >> reporter: -- latest for wjz. >> reporter: mitt romney wasted no time in attacking rival newt gingrich. he says florida voters paid attention to their debate. >> they learned for instance that he was paid $1.6 million to be a lobbyist for freddie mac and they said that's not what we want in the white house. >> reporter: the former massachusetts governor need as win in florida after losing big to gingrich in south carolina. the latest polls shows romney has regained a double-digit lead but the former house speaker is not conceding anything. >> i think it's closing here in florida. i think the next 24 hours are going to make a big difference. >> reporter: gingrich came to florida last week with the momentum, but after two debates and millions of dollars in negative ads, he quickly lost his spot at the top of the polls. but gingrich keeps insisting he's the only candidate who can beat president obama. >> let me be clear. every time we nominate a moderate, we lose. >> reporter: gingrich has suggested he could be beat romney if fellow conservative rick santorum dropped out. but after spending time with his sick daughter over the weekend, the former pennsylvania senator is expected back on the campaign trail today. danielle nottingham, wjz eyewitness news. >> congressman ron paul is still in the race but is skipping the least for a little while. the canton branch of the enoch pratt library is getting a major facelift and is temporarily closing its doors for as long as two years to do it. upgrades will include more computers, expanded handicap access and more space for neighborhood events. librarygoers can use the highland town and patterson park branches during the big renovation. wjz and the red cross teamed up this past weekend to save a lot of lives with a blood drive. we had a very good turnout on saturday with 179 units of blood being collected. it's all part of wjz's continuing community commitment. the dentist aconfused of -- accused of using paper clips for doing root canals. some of the people he operated on later developed infections. the former massachusetts dentist is now living in crofton, used paper clips instead of stainless steel posts during root canals in order to save money. a florida highway, part of it remains closed this afternoon after several motorists died in a huge pileup on it over the weekend. police say a dozen cars and six tractor-trailers collided with each other on interstate 75 near gainesville after the drivers were all blinded by a thick mix of fog and smoke. ten people are dead. drivers say the smog appeared so quickly, they had no idea what to do. >> i rolled my window down and started hearing thuds and crashes and it was so thick, i couldn't even tell you where they were coming from. >> i figured if we would stay in the car, we would have been dead. i mean, you have cars coming in like 80 miles an hour just popping you like that i didn't know what to do. >> more than a dozen people are also injured. crews had cleared the roadway and opened it back up but shut it down again this morning due to returning poor visibility. new details about the disappearance after toddler up in maine. police say they found blood inside the home from where 20- month-old ayla disappeared. according to relatives, they are confirming the blood belonged to ayla and is was more blood than a small cut would produce. the girl's father reported her missing in december. a chaotic week on the west coast where occupy protests turned violent. >> police in oakland, california crack down on demonstrators after they allegedly began throwing pipes and bottles at police. riot police then responded with tear gas. the group is also accused of breaking into city buildings and vandalizing other property. more than a hundred people are under arrest. back here on the east coast, it's eviction day for occupy members in d.c. the national park service distributed flyers to demonstrators over the weekend at mcpherson square and freedom plaza warning them they only had until noon today to remove their tents. anyone who doesn't comply could be arrested. the ak this is the end of january. we did have a live snow showers move through last night. it was a quick mover. got out of here and behind it cooler air has been moving into maryland a. chilly start to the day. the winds are up out of the northwest. a seasonably cooler start. 40 degrees already in baltimore. so mid-40s to the south of us. still 30s in the mountains. what we're expecting is not only above average in the 40s but even warmer air to move our way as another warm front comes through. you can see it carved out. behind that there's warm air starting to brew. it is moving in our direction. here's how it looks from the satellite. we see a couple of showers far off to the north with that warm front. we're not expecting that. we're expecting clouds from it later today and tonight but then that warm front clears us and when it does, here comes the warmer air. we're going into the 60s tomorrow and wednesday. by wednesday afternoon, we do have more clouds coming in with the cold front part of this storm and a chance for a few showers but it's not a huge rain maker for us. on thursday a chance for a couple of showers. temperatures will start to come down. wait till you see some of the numbers. we're way above average. the forecast comes together like this. today is going to be the cooler of the next few days. we're going to 45 degrees for the high. high clouds coming in as we head through the afternoon and tonight. some of the high clouds passing through down to 30 degrees. tomorrow, though, sunshine returns. we're up to 62 degrees tomorrow afternoon. we're going to stay in the 60s on wednesday. absolutely incredible that this is the end of january. transferring into february. that's what we're talking about. >> i know. i know but i love to see the go. >> reporter: let's go ahead and take a look at them. tomorrow we're going to 60 degrees. pretty much says it all. 60, 62. 63 to 65 maybe even on wednesday. now thursday we are going to see a drop into the mid, upper 50s. then 50 on friday. 47 degrees on saturday. saturday the end of the five- day, the first time we'll actually get back into the 40s but that's still at that time going to be 4 degrees above normal. there is a shot of getting some moisture in here wednesday and thursday but i'm telling you, the head lienls got to be -- headlines got to be those numbers. just wonderful. a great way toandz what was a very -- way to end what was a very benign january and start february. hopefully it's going to be just as calm and relaxed. we'll throw it back inside. >> i can't wait. >>
