A little bit of rain but mainly pushing through Southern Maryland and then it will push through the lower eastern shore. The majority of the area release should stay dry for the bulk of the day. First, heres a look at the top stories people are talking about. A 16yearold california girl headed back home after she was allegedly kidnapped. Marley hall has more for wjz on the dramatic ending. Reporter the search to find a man who allegedly abducted 16yearold Hannah Anderson came to an end saturday when Officials Say an fbi agent shot and killed james lee dimaggio. Hannah was successfully rescued and appears to be a pretty good shape. Authorities found them after aerial units spotted their campsite. The fbi wont release any more information until the shooting review team investigates. The team will interview witnesses and determine exactly what happened. For this reason, no other details can be released at this time. His car was on friday morning abandoned near the town of cascade. 70 miles northeast of boise. The blue nissan was discovered and that led to a massive federal state and local manhunt. A manhunt covered some three into miles in the Southwest Corner of area called the Frank Church River of no return wilderness. Our team faced a very challenging situation. She went missing last sunday, the same day the bodies of her mother and her eightyearold brother were found in his burned california home. Authorities say he was a friend of the family and had a strange infatuation with the 16year old girl. A helicopter took hannah from the scene to a nearby hospital. Marley hall for cbs news. Plans to reunite her with her family today. Federal investigators say theres no obvious signs that there was anything wrong with the plane that crashed into a connected neighborhood killing four people. The ntsb reloads the wreckage from the 22 houses in east haven, connecticut. The plane landed upside down on top of the home. A 13yearold boy and his oneyearold brother inside one of the homes died. The pilot and his 17yearold son were also killed in the wreck. Investigators say the pilot was apparently trying to land. First responders and volunteers from several counties prepare for a mass casualty incident. Emergency workers say since 9 11 simulations like these are common ground. Reporter a casualty is created. Rescue workers are called in. Its a stage emergency that First Responders designed to train volunteers and treat victims. The atv didnt see the tractor and a wagon and cut off. The hay wagon and the tractor rolled down the hill and live about 16 to 17 injured victims as a result. Everything is reported. Its information that could cut down Emergency Response times and actual life and death accidents. To get familiar with it. Mass casualty is not something that happens often. Its one of the skills they want to practice to make sure when it happens that we are at the top of our game. Emergency workers say they wanted a simulation that will be for the area. The crash killed a train operator and eight passengers. The transit agencies that settled lawsuits by families of the victims but refused to reveal how much those families received. Metro says it is reviewing the judges decision. Police are searching for a man who drove an suv into a home in a failed robbery attempt. It happened friday night. Police say the man stole the car from the home on maple ridge lane. Sometime later the jeep liberty ended up inside a home. No one inside was hurt but the suspect a runaway. Police say if you know anything about this case, theyve got stuck with you. You can see just a string of it spanning all the way out toward Southern Maryland. This frontal boundary is actually separating dry air from humid air with high dewpoint stereo we are right in the quarter to see a few showers and thunderstorms as we head into the afternoon. Taking you through today through your tuesday, this frontal boundary will push north a little bit but then the cold front will move through as a head into tuesday. Looking at chances for showers and thunderstorms. Some could be strong and some could be severe. Definitely keeping an eye on it. Temperatures around 78 degrees. Back to some of the other top headlines people are talking about. The search for the weapon in a murder case against former new England Patriots player aaron hernandes test of his girlfriend. A connecticut newspaper says a warrant for a storage unit says that his girlfriend was seen in Surveillance Video carrying an object the size of a lockbox out of hernandes his house. She allegedly drove to the bank and return home without the object. Hernandes has pleaded not guilty to murder of oden lloyd. Several u. S. Embassies and consulates closed to the middle east in the middle east, rather, because it al qaeda terror threat. The state department rushed to shut down 18 of its 19 embassies. As they reopen, there will be extra security at all of the locations. President obama says hes not taking any chances less than a year after militants killed four americans in benghazi. The leader in libya is facing murder charges in connection with that. The pilot of a helicopter that crashed in pennsylvania killing four marylanders was not certified to fly. A preliminary report says there is no indication that the pilot received a weather briefing before taking off on july 27th from new york. The chopper pilot told air Traffic Controllers that because of fog he was flying using instruments instead of visual indicators. Give us a background on this wonderful flag. Sure. Mary pictures filled was a flight maker. She was commissioned to make to flags for the fort, the large garrison flag, which is the one we are recreating here today and the smaller storm flag. That was done in the summer of 1813 but then became famous, of course, in the summer of 1814. This is the flag that Francis Scott key wouldve seen flying over fort mchenry when he actually writes what becomes our national anthem, the starspangled banner. Can you hear me . Yes. Tell us about the event. Sure. Today is one of our days where we would like people to come down and put a stitch in the fight. This is a public history project. We want people to really be involved and have a sense of ownership of this flag. So from 12 00 to 4 00 today, people are welcome to come down to the Historical Society and put their own stitch in the flag. We have reservations, which was 400 block, but we think we can take more people, so we really encourage walkins today. Sounds good. Things are looking good as we head into the weekend. Sharks, stingrays, and hundreds of threatening colored fish have a new home. This is the Worlds Largest replica of the Great Barrier reef. Mary bubala gives us an up close introduction to calypso. Reporter the 216,000 gallon reef is about to be invaded. The most important thing i needed to know before i got in was that the sharks are not in yet. For now its just 4000 pieces of artificial coral, a few small tropical fish, calypso the 500pound sea turtle, and me ready for an underwater adventure. Its a little chilly. We are going to dive under. Holly bourbon is my instructor and guide. As we go under today, what should we be looking for . I would just sort of flowed around, because because the fish will actually come look at you and then get to calypso. We are often headed for below the surface. It is a rare, stunning upclose view of what the Great Barrier reef would look like, and almost right away we run into calypso, the aquariums the left mascot. I have an amazing encounter with this gentle giant. She seems at home already in her new surroundings floating peacefully in the water and not seeming to mind the company. Calypso had a few days to adjust before the big fish joined her. The sharks are not in yet, but when they get in the water, you will still a diverse come through here. Yes. Were going to feed them first thing in the morning from the surface. But below as a dove in and said hello, visitors were getting a sense of what its like to be at sea level. Much cooler in western maryland in the mid and upper 60s. 2. 62 degrees. That will be him arise but it wont get into the 70s like it was last week. A little rainfall in Southern Maryland. We are looking good, for the most part, today. Most are should remain dry. Highs in the mideighties this evening temps around 75 degrees. A small plane goes down in east haven neighborhood in connecticut. Breaking apart and bursting into flames and killing four people. Neighbors are absolutely shocked. Reporter a horrific scene in east haven, connecticut. A Small Plane Crashes and burns in a neighborhood killing four people. Neighbors are absolutely shocked. Friday the plane fall from the sky and crashed into two homes and causing them flames. We saw the plane twirling. A rush of air came down and i felt the ground shake. I heard the explosion. Real loud like a bomb. The pilot and a teenage son touring east coast colleges. They were killed along with two children inside a home, ages one and 13. The babys body found in the debris. Its very overwhelming to watch. Neighbors say the family had just moved in and the single mother ran outside screaming for help when it happened. We did take her to the hospital to make sure she was okay. She is now with friends and family out of east haven. She is doing as well as can be expected. We learned the pilot has had problems before. In 2009, he crashed landed on washingtons columbia river. Some new details about fridays accident. Investigators say the plane was flying upside down. The airplane impacted the ground and the house and was inverted in a 60 to 70degree angle. Also, the pilot did not declare a state of emergency and crashed about 2800 yards from the airport. He asked the pilot over the radio if the pilot had the runway in sight in the pilot acknowledged yes. From there, i would imagine a few seconds later they lost transmissions with the airplane. Investigators will now scour the wreckage and data to figure out what caused the tragedy. Investigators should finish a preliminary report within 10 days. A more indepth report to take up to nine months. Back to you. We will report on that report once it comes out. A suspected kidnapper is shot and killed by police. Anna california teen abducted a week ago will get back to her family. 16yearold Hannah Anderson will be reunited with her family today. Police killed James Dimaggio after her and after they found her in his company in a remote area of a high idaho. The killing and the tenth multistate manhunt that began last week. Thats when san diego firefighters on the bodies of hannahs mother and her younger brother in a burning house. Police say hannah is in pretty good shape but shes in the hospital this morning. A popular nightclub and tv star from the 60s has died. Passing away last night at a hospital in las vegas following a brief undisclosed illness. May was a successful band singer and nightclub entertainer. She worked as a solo act and as a team with her husband, steve lawrence. She was 75 years old. Firefighters gaining control of a Massive Wildfire that has burned 19,000 acres and destroyed at least 26 homes in southern california. Melanie woodrow reports for wjz, evacuation orders were lifted this morning and most residents are now being allowed to return home. Reporter firefighters stopped to update the wildfire burning near their home. You could see the fire and the smoke on the bridge. The wildfire spread house with a couple lived for nine years. They say they have worked hard to fireproof it. We have fire protective siding and everything on the house. But not far kathy dexter returned to this. We got out with our lives and our animals. Her home and all the memories in it gone. It was pretty devastating. Theres no words to put in it. The wildfire scorched at least 30 square miles and destroyed more than two dozen houses. This is just one of the homes. The california governor has declared a state of emergency for Riverside County so residents could get help with the recovery. Utility companies are working to restore power to residents as teams of firefighters and a fleet of helicopters and airplanes get an upper hand on the wildfire. We hope to have it contained by the 11th. As residents return home, they are showing their gratitude to the firefighters. Melanie woodrow, wjz Eyewitness News. Eight firefighters and one resident were injured in the wildfires. One person is dead and three others are missing after a heavy rain caused mudslides in colorado. One man is very lucky to still be alive. The 70yearold driver found himself suddenly in the middle of the flood. Walls of mud and water came down right onto his car. He was able to get out of that car and the flooding waters knocked him down. Another driver swooped in to rescue him. Howard county Police Arrest a man they say ran over another man after the two argued over a cell phone. It happened in laurel and the parking lot of pw sports bar and grill friday night. Police say 21yearold Trayvon Martin had the other mans phone and agreed to return for money. Well, the two got into an argument and miller allegedly got into his car and hit the other van. Miller is charged with attempted murder. The victim is in stable condition this morning. The latest hotel trend comes to baltimore, but its not about the softness of the sheets and the gourmet items at the minibar. As mike schuh reports, a Downtown Hotel wants you to remember your stay by getting out to see charm city. Reporter this is how tourists are introduced to baltimore in a cap in traffic, but ill tell here thinks the best ways on two wheels. We are taking a bike ride. I am writing with the hotel general manager up charles street. Today we are doing it to promote not only that we have bikes to use but also that we are we have created this to visit significant sites via cycle. The luxury hotel monaco is owned by kempton and they have put bikes in all of its hotels. I think it really gives the guests an opportunity to live like a local and see the city through the eyes of the people that live here. Theres Nothing Better than seeing the city closeup. So on this day, a group of those tied to local tourism took the hour and a half to work. Katie marks works for the park service. I dont know if youve seen the signs that marked the trail. We are trying to work with outfitters to develop these sorts of things for tourists. The first stop is a tour of the cemetery grounds. Looking at the big picture, we are seeing a lot of showers and thunderstorms across the southeast associated with the stationary boundary. Thats going to continue to drip right across Southern Maryland and into the atlantic ocean. Thats going to separate these dry air from the very humid air that brings us showers and thunderstorms. Unfortunately, we are going to be on the bad end of this bargain with showers and thunderstorms possible. Areas around the masondixon line should see some pretty dry weather for the majority of the day today. Heading into tuesday, heres how things play out. Rather dry monday but thunderstorms work their way into the forecast ahead of a potent cold front as we head into late tuesday. Keeping a close eye on your tuesday. Could see some strong to severe thunderstorms out there. Winds out of the southeast this afternoon, at around five knots. Heres what you can expect. Temperatures around 85 degrees. Some fun with the showers. 66 overnight. Packing clouds after a few thunderstorms passed by. Could even see the meteor shower out there if you are lucky enough to get a break in the clouds. Okay. 200 years ago she sat down with four of her family members and one African American injured serviceman. They went to work. They did. This was her business. They were professionals. They were getting paid to do this. She needed to sit down and she needed to get it done. And now you guys do to in six weeks. Whats going to happen there . Well, after were finished with the flag, we are hoping to be finished by august 22nd, and then its going to have its debut during the starspangled banner weekend at the celebration saturday, september 14th at fort mchenry.
