Reporter good morning. Amazon specialized this recent t ting packages to customers very quickly, offering a deal where you pay a set rate and they get you anything for you free in two days. To do that they have to have the Distribution Centers close to the customers. Thats the idea here. Online giant amazon will soon be one of baltimores biggest employers. The fortunate 500 company Just Announced its picked charm city as the location for one of its new Distribution Centers. Of course we always talk about jobs, jobs. Its a great thing for the city, great thing for southeast baltimore. Scomblsz its a 1 million square foot facility that will look similar to this. It will be going up on the port of baltimore in a spot formally taken up by gm. The warehouse is expected to create 1,000 full time jobs with benefits that include 401k, health care and prepaid tuition for college. Its critical i think for any kind of employers to bring that kind of business and those kind of jobs to this area. I think thats really important, especially for folks who other wise wouldnt be able to afford those kinds of opportunities. Those who work at this Distribution Center will pick, pack and ship retail goods to consumers. The baltimore location is one of eight in new warehouses they plan nationwide. Amazon is building the centers in cities it believes have a Large Consumer base, making it easier to get products to people faster. City leaders believe it is the beginning of more big business. It holds baltimore in a better light and higher lights and shows that were a world class city thats open for business. Reporter now, no word from amazon on when they will break ground. In east Baltimore Police are investigating the shooting of a woman. They say 24yearold Gwendolyn Johnson was shot in the stomach on abbott court yesterday afternoon and died at the hospital. Anyone with information is urged to call Baltimore City police. In nevada we have the 911 calls after a student shot people and himself. That student was just 12 years old. Here is denise koch with more. Good morning. Investigators are trying to figy he pulled the trigger on students, a teacher and himself. Chaos and fear can be heard on emergency calls made during mondays shooting. 911 emergency. This is a student from sparks middle school. Can you please send police out here. Theres a kid with a gun. Officers were on the scene in 3 minutes. Were inside the cafeteria where the students are huddled. Theyre safe here. Were looking for the shooter now. About 700 students were starting the school day when a 12yearold classmate opened fire. Teachers scrambled to get students inside. We have a student outside with a gun pointed at him. Were looked down. As many as 30 children witnessed the violence. I got a kid down thats been shot. Teacher down the boy shot and injured two fellow students and killed a popular 8th grade math teacher michael landsberry. Then he shot himself in the head. The guy is down with a head shot wound. Could be the shooter. The shooter made a chilling remark to his classmates. Pointed to us and said you ruined my life and im going to ruin yours. Police believe the boy got the gun from his home. His parents are cooperating with investigators. They could still face charges for keeping the gun unsecured. Thank you. That school will remain closed e rest of the week. The system is offer ing offering counseling. Two men ran up to an armored guard in texas and ordered him to the ground. They started shooting at each other. Witnesses thought they were going to be caught up in the cross fire. They were aimed in my direction. I just went back in the shop. I didnt want to be shot. He left everyone handed. The guard is wounded but is expected to be okay. Here in Baltimore County deliberations will continue today in the 150 million lawsuit filed against Saint Josephs Medical Center. Jurors have been deliberating the malpractice lawsuit against mark meday. Hes accused of giving patients unnecessary cardiac stints. This morning dozens of Baltimore County businesses and residents are still without Water Service thank to a broken main on major roadway. Sharon mentioned this. The 12 Inch Diameter pipe under joppa road this perry hall ruptured on monday night. That section of road is still closed this morning as crews work on the repairs. Officials say the break happened because crews were working at the towson reservoir. A warning for pet owners. The food and Drug Administration is advising everyone to avoid jerky pet treats. The agency says thousands of illnesses have been reported and more than 580 dogs and cats are dead. Its one of the most mysterious out breaks. All the treats come from china but theres not one particular brand to watch out for. In Howard County a big drink debate. A group is appealing to children to swap their sodas for healthier drinks. The Soda Companies are not too happy about it. Here is Christie Illeto with a new statewide tv campaign asking major brands like cocacola to stop marketing sugar. A short ad with a big message tuesday reading, happiness doesnt come in a red can, obesity does. People seen swapping cocacola for healthier drinks. Howard county based Horizon Foundation said it calls for the beverage giant to change they way they advertise. It impacts our youth. The foundation wants to work with Beverage Companies to change that. Coke makes healthier drinks but does little to advertise them. Earlier this year cocacola began changing their ads, pitching healthier drinks. A spokesperson said they seen the video and they believe its unfair to single out just beverages. We do a lot of Marketing Programs around our low calorie befrnls beverages. I think its good. The statistics arent sugar coat eded. One in four children in maryland is obese. We have an obligation to make our kids better not worse. They said this isnt the way to do it. They say you can be healthy and enjoy a soft drink. Singling out one product is the wrong message. A young father dies when a 19yearold texting hit him. Three Anne Arundel County High School Graduates were in the car when a teen driver went the wrong way down route 50. All three died. Now federal officials are trying to stop tragedies like those. They launch add new campaign called five to driving out lining the five rules parents should have. Its important parents set ground rules. Its important that parents be good role models. No cell phone use or texting, no extra passengers, no speeding, no alcohol and no driving without a seat belt. Behavior often seen on the roads. Its scary how many people you see driving on the highway on their phones. Young drivers say they think the rules are a good idea. I try to avoid those things. Its unsafe. Avoid ing risky moves to help saves lives. They say drive with your teens in bad weather and traffic for practice. In Prince Georges County the search is on for who gunned down a hotel worker during a robbery. As kai jackson reports, friends and loved ones of the slain employee are calling him a hero. He comes in. Police show video of an arm Armed Robbery at a hotel. A frightening scene. Moments later it resulted in the murder of 27yearold jesse chavez. Very heroic. He heard lady screaming for held came out to intervene. Police say it happened about 10 00 monday night at the Clarion Hotel on oxon hill road. Surveillance video shows a male suspect entering the hotel and jumping the county. That man armed with a gun forced a 22yearold female clerk to hand over the hotels cash drawer. He heard the screams from our female victim that was robbed. He intervened and he was at the door between the suspect and the suspects being able to get outside to the vehicle. Prince georges county police say jesse chavez did something heroic. He rushed to help his coworker. He struggled with the gunman and was shot and killed. Chavezs family is devastated. He stood by what was right. Police are looking for a darkcolored sedan, possibly a toyota. He worked his way up to food and beverage manager at that Clarion Hotel. Thank you. More arrests in the wake of that road rage attack on the streets of new york city. A 40yearold motorcyclist is now in jail charged with several crimes, including first degree gang assault. Hes one of the men on camera beating an suv driver after a traffic accident. Police have arrested nine motorcyclists in connection with the attack, including two offduty new York City Police officers. It seems longtime senator john mccain isnt ready to retire just yet. He said hes seriously thinking about running for another term. This last month he said his current term was probably his last. Its a big dangerous big, unregulated, underground and a threat to public health. However you feel about marijuana, theyre growing this stuff in california. In some cases mexican drug cartels, Bulgarian International gangs are raising it on federal public land on state parks. Its outrageous what theyre doing to the environment and most importantly however you feel about smoking marijuana because of using these fertilize rs and pesticides it can be bad for you health to smoke the new marijuana. Youre saying its nowhere near as regulated as a normal crop . No, not regulated at all. Thats the point. Even toe bak bacco, which is out lawed is regulated. Every other crop is regulated. Because the federal government s illegal, its not regulated. That raises the argument, im not here to make the argument, theres plenty of time who dont like marijuana, that its time to legalize it. As we found out with whisky, if you cant with Law Enforcement do away with it youve got to bring it under some kind of regulation. Theres plenty of people that argue that its now the time to do it with marijuana. Its real interesting. I kind of i remember it was a frontline that runs on cable all the time. It was talking about whats going on in northern california. It started raising a few flags. Now hearing you its quantumed. Its in local politics and everything. Well, its grown by leaps and bounds. Humble county, which one was considered the marijuana capital it was hippies, the marijuana of your father and grandfathers maybe older brother. This big corporate marijuana, which i emphasize is involved with international gangs, is a whole new dangerous big business. Of course everybody thinks the marijuana in California California and the partial legalization of recreation marijuana would be a good thing.
