This mornings coffee with is with joe elliot and rick savage. The satellite interview is furnished by mcm and aeg live. Heres marty. Ladies and gentlemen , rock legends not house. Good evening. How are you . Good evening. Nice to be here. Its great to have you on this show. I think this concept you guys are doing, two concerts where you did hysteria and now weve made it into a theater presentation is brilliant. I remember the first time i saw a theater concert. It would have been the grateful dead from radio city music hall. I thought what an idea. I can just go to the theater, watch a concert. Then that kind of disappeared. Now its starting to come back. When you were approached to do this how quickly did you say yes . Pretty quickly. I think about 3 seconds. Yeah. It was filmed over two nights. We were there for 11 nights. We played 11 shows. We really got settle ed settled in. We were 3 week s s in the same bed, 11 gigs. A perfect opportunity for us to pour all that extra energy you get from not having to travel into turning this into a major movie event if you like. We filmed the fourth and fifth shows. It was pieced together mostly from the fifth show, i believe. With a great director and an opportunity to make it more than just a blue ray dvd release but to give everybody the best seat in the house, go to a cinema and watch this thing on an enormous screen with enormous sound is nothing we could say no to. Did you just do the shows and they came to you and said this is the final product . How much were you involved in the final product yourself . Well, the director and guys kept us in the loop. They were sending us snip its just to show us where they were going and if there was anything we didnt like. Pretty much the whole process we were kept involved with. We are the type of people that go, you know what, this is what youre meant to do so we do have a lot of trust in people that we are working with. At same time, there was a courtesy there that we were just basically checking in on how it was going. So it was pretty much a twoway thing all the way. I think its really neat that youre revisiting hysteria. For those of us who have the original, its a great chance to hear it again. Its a whole new audience that will go, wow, def leppard, who are these guys. I think that is what makes music last. Talk about that. Yeah. Thats a good point. You know, music has change d. The industry has imploded. It doesnt know what its doing. Consequently were fortunate to be outside looking in at this mess really. We just take care of ourselves now. To be able to revisit this album thats 25 years old, put it in front of a mixture of fans that have been there from day one and they are bringing their kids along. They are coming along willingly believe it or not. Its the on way to go. With the industry not knowing what its doing you have to take your own career into your own hands and decide where you want to go. Given the opportunity to do a residency, which is becoming kind of cool now, not the territory of elvis or wayne newton game in vegas, its mottly crew, guns and roses and cheap trick, rod stewart. They are tied to an incredibly successful past, as we are to a point. To bring that past into the present in a whole new package, weve never played in 35 years an entire album from start to finish in sequence. That was an event for us. To expand on that and to do it 11 nights and in cinemas now and then on dvd later on next month this is an amazing part of our journey that we never really thought would get this far. Even at this stage, its probably the biggest and best thing weve ever done. That is so exciting for us. Guys our satellite time has run short which is unfortunate. Its been great having you on the show. Great visiting with you now in 2013. Thanks for all of the tremendous entertain. And all of the hard work youve given the def leppard fans. Youre pros and deserve all the praise you get. Thank you very much. Very kind. Thank you. Preert it. Appreciate it. Well see you man. October 2nd and october 8th at 8 00.
