start until tonight. it could last for weeks. the jones falls expressway handles up to 6000 cars every hour on a typical day. but the next few weeks will be anything but normal. >> that is supposed to to be expressway getting out of here. now you cutting it down, pretty much it is going to be a regular street now. >> starting at 7:00 p.m. tonight one lane north and southbound will shut down near the 29th street bridge after holes were found undermeet the surface of the road. >> sit is being closed for safety purposes because you don't -- you know we know there is a void under there and if left unchecked that could become a sinkhole. >> the closures expected to last at least a month. >> that is not going to be good. traffic is going to be worse than what it has been. it is going to -- i attack outside of courthouse east last month. the video of the incident went viral and has caused outrage all across this country. this morning george zimmerman remains in jail in florida after making his first appearance in a courtroom there. prosecutors say the neighborhood watch volunteer murdered trayvon martin in february. but zimmerman says he acted in self defense. it is manuel gallegos covering the story for wjz. >> reporter: george zimmerman may soon ask a judge to let him out of jail. his lawyers says a bail hearing will probably be held a week from today. >> mr. zimmerman -- >> yes, sir -- >> he made his first court court appearance on thursday. he is held in a 67 square foot cell. he can't watch television but does have access to the jail economiesary. this receipt shows he spent nearly 80 dollars. his attorney says his client is scared. >> now to know that he is facing charges that could put him in prison for life, you know, how could you not be frightened. >> zimmerman is being held in any isolated cell here at the seminole county correctional facility. officials say he is being kept away from the general population because of the high profile nature of the case. >> his lawyer says his client will plead not guilty when he is ariped may 29th. the neighborhood watch volunteer says he fired in self- defense after the teenager attacked him. but prosecutors say zimmerman followed and confronted the unarmed teen after a police dispatcher told him not to. the state also points to screams heard in a 911 call. martin's mother, sabrina fulton, says it is her manuel gallegos, wjz eyewitness news. >> the night of the shooting in late february police let zimmerman go, citing florida's stand your ground law. a stand off in over this morning after a drug bust goes bad in new hampshire. officers were executing a search warrant at a home in greenland last night when cullin mutree opened fire on them. the police chief was killed and four others were hurt. after hours barricaded inside they were found dead. they are not sure if it was a double suicide or a murder- suicide or how the murder was involved. in california police are in a stand off with a man suspected of killing two people. police say he killed a deputy and others as they tried to serve anyviction an yviction an eviction notice on him. they did that. he saved children. he was selling then noticed smoke and flames, he banged on the door and helped them get out. they are still investigating the cause. firefighters also battled a wildfire there along the beltway. it is one of many brush fires we have seen all this week as dry and windy weather conditions create dangerous conditions for fires. firefighters were able to contain the flames, those flames from spreading. police sergeants and lieutenants in anne arundel county have a message for their county executive john leopold this morning, resign, now they are sending that message out on the air waves with ads. here is more. >> reporter: they have been critics calling for them to go amid accusations he was mistreating his security detail while the chief ignored it all. now they are airing a series of radio ads to spread its pressure. >> if there is any basis for the published reports of the chief turning a blind eye, a blind eye to the county administrator's alleged shenanigans, then i say shame on the chief. >> the of another last month. two teens were playing with a rifle when it went off killing one of them. investigators say that rifle belongs to martinez armstrong. you will recall that weapon was discovered in the personal care of a city police officer who is the fiance of one of the teens involved. also in the city a key witness has taken the stand in the trial of a man accused in a hit-and-run that killed two teenagers six months ago. kendra miles testified yesterday her boyfriend reuben dun p was drunk and behind the wheel that night. she said after the accident shea panicked and she switched seats with him and lied to police. she has since cut a deal with prosecutors to avoid jail time herself in exchange for her testimony. >> the issue with miss miles really is the fact that she gave several times on the night of the incident at the scene a version of events that says that she was the driver. >> jury deliberations could begin later today, if convicted dunn faces up to 30 years in prison. the cease fire in syria is expected to be tested as opponents of the president there are calling for protests. we have had reports -- we have had no reports of violence since the truce went into effect. part of it calls for peaceful protests but western leaders are skeptical that he will go along with that. north korea has launched or tried to launch a long-range rang rocket to find the u.s. or others but as we report that launch has failinged but still has set of friction. >> reporter: the rocket was supposed to blast off toward the south, a trajectory that would not threaten the u.s. or others, and stages would splash into the sea. but officials say it broke apart 90 seconds after lift off. the white house issued a statement saying their action threatens security, violates law and contra scenes ntravenes its own commitments. the u.s. sent ships to the region and was monitoring by satellite. north korea says it contained an earth monitoring satellite but secretary of state clinton said it is the potential payload that is worrisome. >> there is no doubt this satellite would be launched using ballistic missile tech knowledge. >> prior to the launch secretary clinton
