time, always log on to wjz.com. here's what people will be watching closely today. jury selection resuming in the trial of george huguely. the university of virginia lacrosse player accused of murdering yeardley love. >> reporter: two maryland families will be back inside this courtroom later on today. jury selection is still underway. jurors facing questions about alcohol consumption and views on domestic violence. the father, family and friends of yeardley love walk into a courtroom seeking justice two years after the star lacrosse player was murdered. a case that put this small college town in headlines. more than 200 reporters are recovering the trial of george huguely, a fellow lacrosse player. huguely broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment and beat to death. on street corners and cafes in charlottesville, the trial is the talk of the town. >> what are those opinions? >> just probably a little more concerned for their children. >> rick barrett is a spokesperson for the historic city. >> how has the murder of yeardley love and this trial affected this community? >> the university's been having conversations about domestic abuse and abuse situations and alcohol issues. and, and that has been very well-received. >> reporter: the mother of this college-bound student already did just that. >> do you think you use this as a teaching moment for your daughter? >> absolutely. >> did you learn something? >> yes, very much. >> saying all college campuses can take away a lesson from love. >> reporter: if jury selection wraps up today, we could hear opening statements and about two weeks of testimony. reporting from charlottesville, virginia, adam may, wjz eyewitness news. >> huguely could face the possibility of life in prison. we urge you to stay with us for complete coverage on this murder trial. jury selection is expected to begin today in the trial of former governor bob ehrlich's political consultant. he's accused of using robo calls to get candidates. roana russell, henson's employee and the voice on the robo calls is expected to testify. they were expected to be a form of reverse psychology. >> doesn't seem like the voters are saying hey, my vote was going for ehrlich, he's down and out. i'll go out for ehrlich after his call. authorizing them. he's scheduled for sentencing next week. baltimore county police are looking for two men who attacked a teenager in catonsville. the 16-year-old was walking along the road on january 18th when a dark-colored four door vehicle with two men drove past here. one man tried to pull her into the back seat of the vehicle and assaulted her there. the man awaiting trial after opening fire at a political rally in arizona will get four more months of mental health treatment. jared loughner has pleaded not guilty in the attack targeting gabby giffords. mental health experts have been given more time to work with him and determine when he's mentally fit to stand trial. the battle over a proposed increase in the maryland taxes on gasoline is heating up as drivers nationwide are paying record high prices at the pump anyway. wjz and andrea fujii are live on the scene today. >> reporter: the state comptroller will be meeting with opponents of this proposed gas tax. this is all coming at a time when experts warn gas prices could reach $4 a gallon by spring. >> i never thought i'd be paying $3.50 to drive to work. >> reporter: nothing fuels the fire of drivers going to the pump like 0 to 60. >> marylanders are paying on average 5 cents more for a gallon of gas this week than last. >> we can't afford to drive now. i drive 30 miles from pasadena to towson everyday. it costs probably $100 a week to come to work in gasoline. >> reporter: don't look for relief any time soon. >> we're talking at prices that are 43 cents a gallon higher nan a year ago. marylanders are paying $3.09 a gallon, now they're paying $3.52. >> reporter: governor o'malley makes the case by pointing out the state's transportation funding needs. >> maryland has the worst traffic in america. we pay a heavy price in times we spend in bumper to bumper traffic when we could be at home with our families. one of the issues still to be worked out in the governor's plan, how to cap the tax increase which could save you gasoline spikes or other reasons. elijah cummings is highlighting the importance of oral health as part of the children's oral health month. expand children's access to dental care. he says many parents still aren't aware of the potential risks of poor oral health. turning to sports, the orioles part ways with one of the most durable pitchers. jeremy guthrie has been traded to the colorado rockies. guthrie had a rough season last season. jason campbell and reliever matt lindstrom. a day after leading the new york giants to a super bowl win over the new england patriots, eli manning spoke about how ahmad bradshaw was able to make the game-winning touchdown. >> let them score, their offense can get the ball back and possibly score a touchdown. as i'm handing the ball off to ahmad, i could sense the patriots defense giving up, don't score, don't score. >> the giants will have a victory parade in lower manhattan followed by a big ceremony at city hall plaza there. a soccer game between liverpool and putnam came to a halt after a cat wandered onto the field. the cat was escorted from the field by security. >> we have something really cool coming up in under 15 minutes. that's a picture of orlando gronzus. that guy, really great. at first, intimidating. seuss, what's going on? orlando brown died suddenly and it's what he didn't know that ultimately killed him. coming up on wjz, one of zuess' oldest frien,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, exactly 22 minutes after the hour. let's look at coverage now. five degrees warmer than this time yesterday morning. 52, sunshine, through your afternoon, there's a beautiful sunrise. >> former ravens tackle orlando brown died suddenly from complications of diabetes, everybody was stunned. this morning, his best friend, wally williams, jessica kartalija was diabetic. he's vince convinced the giant of a man. his life ended suddenly by something doctors say could have been prevented. >> reporter: on the football field, ravens offensive tackle raymond brown took a hit and pushed back harder. it was the hit he never saw coming that brought him down. orlando died suddenly last september at 40 years old. at first, no one knew why. for ten days, what killed this giant of a man inside his inner harbor homed remained a mystery. an investigation was launched with shocking results from the medical examiner. orlando brown died of diabetes. best friend and former teammate wally williams is still reeling from the news. >> when you heard he died, what did you think? i think that's a big question mark. most critical services are in fact superseded by state and federal law, the county won't see huge changes, translators would still be available at the county health department, the police department and the fire department. >> what would this do? >> i'm not sure, other than send a negative message to immigrant communities throughout the state that we don't want you here, you are not welcome. >> councilman walker admits he's unsure what the impact will be, but says his message is clear. >> we aren't a sanctuary city or county. we're a county that opposed illegal immigration. >> a similar ordinance passed in carroll county in 2006. frederick county is also considering a bill to make english its official language. turning to sports and the aftermath of it, the wife of new england patriots tom brady is causing quite a stir talking about the team's loss of the super bowl. she said players have to catch the ball when they're supposed to and brady can't throw and catch at the same time. brady has yet to comment on his wife's remarks. >> i give her a huge round of applause. some guy trying to say her husband needs to catch the ball. she had to school an american male on football. he throws the ball, he doesn't catch it. sit the guy in the corner and revoke his man card. revoke it or suspend it?
