As one of the most successful writers of military and political the thrillers of all time, tom clancy kept readers on the edge of their seats. News of his death at just 66 years old, has shocked fans. Its a huge fan base, especially male readers reader of action and techno, theyre going to be feeling a sense of sadness. He will be missed but long remembered. Tom clancy was born in baltimore, attended loyola blakefield. What an honor for us to have this literary icon also be called a loyola don. And then Commencement Speaker at Loyola College in 1986. Clancy was a former insurance agent, who went on to write 28 novels. The whole point is to get people to think. Reporter hundreds of thousands of federal workers spent another day at home without pay. The director of National Intelligence told lawmakers that includes about 70 of his civilian work force. This is extremely damaging. And it will increase so as this shutdown drags on. Reporter director clapper says employees not receiving a paycheck are prime targets for foreign governments wanting to gain state secrets. On capitol hill, danielle nottingham, wjz Eyewitness News. Theres been much made of the closing of the world war ii memorial in washington, as veterans travel to visit it. The president of the Republican Committee announced it would pay to keep that monument open for the next 30 days. Wjz live at Navy Marine Corps stadium in annapolis. Derek valcourt with more on how the shutdown may force the cancellation of the highly anticipated navyair force game. Reporter online rumors were flying all day that the game was, in fact, a go for saturday. Navy Officials Say that is not the case. Those rumors were not true. They say the decision was not made yet. But the decision should be made by noon tomorrow. Reporter tents are already going up outside of Navy Marine Memorial stadium. Even though the state fate of the game hangs in limbo, no one more surprised than the players. That would be crushing i mean, its a huge game we all look forward to very much. I watched the video of how it would affect you. And i never thought it would get anywhere near football. Reporter its not just football or any navy sport. The entire Naval Academy, already impacted by the shutdown, with 930 civilian faculty and staff already furloughed. Classes where military instructors arent able to substitute have been canceled. Some of us showed up and studied. Others were told not to go to class. Reporter tickets to saturdays big game have sold out more than 40,000 people expected here in this stadium. Thousands of them coming from out of town. And that means a lot to the local economy here in annapolis. Reporter hotels and restaurants, like bella italian near the stadium, were banking on the business, arranging to be fully staffed for what they anticipate would be huge crowds before and after the game. If they dont play, we lose a lot. For now, all the team can do is wait and practice and see if the show will go on. At this point, they say its not going to happen. We gotta prepare. A lot of folks at the Naval Academy waiting for that decision if the game does not happen on saturday, officials are looking at the possibility that they can reschedule it by december 7th. This time out of tennessee, where a bus and tractor trailer collide, leaving eight people dead. Linh bui is in the newsroom with the latest on this crash. The crash involved a bus, tractortrailer and suv. According to the department of home land security, the charter bus crossed the median, clipping an oncoming suv and hitting the tractortrailer, which then burst into flames. The bus, which was heading eastbound flipped over. In all, 14 people were hurt. Denise . Thank you, linh. The cause of this crash is under investigation. Just moments ago, Baltimore City Police Announce a new public enemy number 1. Christopher goode is wanted for attempted murder and domestic violence. Last month, goode stabbed the mother of his child 12 times in the neck. The mother did survive. Goode is believed to be in south baltimore and is considered armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone with information on goode is asked to call city police. And still more breaking news to tell you about. A jury has reached a verdict in the wrongful death trial of michael jackson. The verdict is expected to be in court next half hour. Sued concert promoter, aeg, saying the company hired dr. Conrad murray, the man convicted in jacksons death and that makes the company responsible. Aeg contends jackson hired murray himself. We will bring you the verdict as soon as it is announced. Reporter that man actually told officials he also had a detonator. All of that turned out not to be true. Reporter tense moments at the jacksonville airport, after 39yearold gelto cosavix claims to have a bomb. He didnt claim to have security. And one of the tsa agents asked him to come back and check in. And he didnt want to do that. Reporter within minutes, authorities had the man in custody, as the bomb disawd moved squad moved in to having. It they did a device that was rendered to be safe. Reporter two suspicious packages were found. Neither of them explosives. Cosavick is now charged with making a frawls report about false report about planting a bomb and presenting a hoax bomb. But no one is laughing. They are stuck in the planes. And they moved further and further away from the airport. Reporter passengers are immediately evacuated from the airport and taken to a nearby hotel as an aggressive sweep was conducted. Passed us until about 11 00 last night. Theres also a fire truck and a couple of police cars. And the neighbors have started to gather around out front. Here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight. Motorcycle mayhem. Caught on tape video. The caught on tape video is frightening. And one of the people arrested in the violent attack appeared in court in manhattan. Alison harmelin reports. Reporter 28yearold Christopher Cruz was charged with rec little driving reckless driving. My client had nothing to do with this gentleman. And he does not know the people who beat this gentleman up. Reporter another biker recorded the incident on his helmet camera and posted it on the internet. Police say cruz purposely slowed down in front of range rofer ver, causing it to clip his bike. I wouldnt say that he purposely did it. Reporter the driver hit the gas and mowed down another driver biker, breaking both of his legs and possibly paralyzing him. After a twomile chase, police say several bikers sparked the smashed the window was of the suv and slashed at the driver. His wife and 2yearold daughter were notjured. Reporter police were prepared that the motorcycle gang might show up here at the courthouse to support cruz. But only his mother and girlfriend showed up at his arraignment. Reporter prosecutors decided not to charge another person seen punching the windows of the suv. The biker suicide is said to be cooperating in the investigation. Riders blocked traffic so they could perform stunts. Police say on the day of the attack, they received more than 200 calls about the bikers driving recklessly. Alison harmelin, wjz Eyewitness News. Now, the driver of the suv did need some stitches. He has not been charged. No new trial. An Appeals Court turns down form penn state coach Jerry Sandusky. The Supreme Court is the next and final chance for sandusky. An Appeals Panel volted famsly voted unanimously today, that sandusky doesnt deserve a gnaw trial, after being convicted of sexually abusing 10 boys. Sandusky argued his attorneys didnt have enough time to prepare for the trial and that the judge made an error in instructing the jury. Sanduskys attorney said he plans to file for Supreme Court view. New details tonight about the massacre at a mall in kenya that left 67 people dead. Unreleased Surveillance Video shows four armed Surveillance Videos at the attack. Two more were found under the rubble last night. An unsettling incident at a Baltimore County high school is under investigation tonight. Sky eye chopper 13 was over the scene at catonsville high school. The School Principal says an adult male tried to lure a female student into the woods on bloomberry avenue. Officials say the girl ran towards an apartment complex. She did get away. Today, counselors and teachers talked with students about the incident. Anne Arundel County Police released new images they hope can help them catch a robber, who hit the same bank twice in a month. In one of the robberies, the female suspect fled in this fourdoor black sedan. Police say she held up the bank of glen burnie on september 13th, and then again the 28th. Marlie hall reports for wjz. At just 46, lisa uribe struggles with her memory. Her problem started with a long stay in intensive care after developing sepsis. Being lost. Being somewhere and not knowing why theyre there. Reporter Research Shows many patients like lisa, with memory problems with leave the hospital with longterm cognitive impairment. Researchers looked at longterm icu patients. They found 34 made nem more likely to end up in the hospital. What nobody has shown before is that 32 our r out of four people are leaving the hospital with profound impairment that looked a lot like alzheimers disease or traumatic brain injury. Delirium is common for patients who are confused or critically ill. They suggest a change in icu care, including weaning off sedatives earlier. Have patients more alert in the icu and walking. Its been a year and a half for lisa. The hardest part forever me is having expectations on myself.
