A stabbing leads to a wild pursuit that ends in a crash. Meghan mccorkell with more on what happened. That pursuit started on 95 northbound. And its not hard to see exactly where it ended here in west baltimore. You can see a giant hole in the side of that building. The suv slamming right into it. Witnesses say they saw this suv flying through west baltimore, being chased by state police. We saw the car just speeding down, doing about 100 miles an hour. And we looked up and said, we see the state trooper car coming about hind it. We thought he was going to head into us. We were scared. Thought he was going to crash right to us. Pli police say the suspect inside was wanted for a stabbing in a parging lot in arundel mills mall this afternoon. A lookout went out for a green acura suv. State Police Spotted it on 95 northbound. But the driver didnt stop, leading them on a wild chase through the city. We just seen the car flying down with the state trooper siren on. Reporter that driver eventually crashed into the side of this building at north fulton at westwood. He is now in police custody. A Police Trainee remains hospitalized tonight, after being shot during the in the head, during an exercise. Our wjz Investigation Continues to reveal new information about how it happened. Tonight, there are concerns that the Training Session is fully staffed. Investigator Mike Hellgren keeps digging into the story. Mike . Sources are telling us tonight there just were not enough people monitoring the training. That officer is in critical condition, after several surgeries. Reporter the police Training Session where an officer was shot in the head was not properly staffed. According to wjz sources. As part of our investigation, wjz has also learned the training officer, William Scott kern, who Baltimore CityPolice Confirmed pulled the trigger, was frustrated. The trainee kept raising his head, when he should have remained hidden. And kern put his weapon up to a glass window and fired. He thought he was using a fake weapon, with simulator bullets. Instead, it was his real service weapon, with live ammo. Lieutenant gene ryan worked with officer officer kern. He was one of the instructors out there. His work ethic is impeccable. As a street cop, it was no different. This one time, just to take that one second back, its got to be devastating. Reporter sources tell wjz, there were only two training officers present when there should have been four. When they redeployed other places to where, you know, should there have been more instructors at that site . Where the exercise was being carried on. Training has remained suspended. The mayor said she was so angry over this, she was speechless. Reporter the mayor was outraged, stressing the importance of finding out what happened. It would seem to me that someone didnt follow the rules. Because obviously a lack of procedure and action in this particular case. All that has to be looked at, from a to z, protocol, training, we will ensure we do everything in our power to make sure this never happens again. Reporter so state police are telling us that this investigation will take several weeks to complete. The victims knew their attackers. We believe this stemmed from a dispute. Reporter his funeral this afternoon brought broken hearts to new Antioch Church to say goodbye. Family and dozens of fellow students from Patterson High School are asking themselves why. Nobody deserves to die. And certainly, he didnt deserve it. Senseless, senseless, the things going on with our young people today. A grand jury indicts two Baltimore City men, including a city firefighter, for allegedly running an interstate prostitution ring. 32yearold Jamar Simmons and 33yearold Franklin Coit upon arrested in july. A deadly triple shooting in college park once again has the issue of Mental Illness and gun control in the spotlight. Reporter vic, while the shooter was being treated for Mental Illness. He was still able to legally purchase firearms. And that has some people questioning state policies. Reporter early tuesday morning, in college park, police say 23yearold university of maryland students, dayvon green, shot his two roommates, killing one, before turning the gun on himself. Has motive, still not clear. But detectives say green suffered from Mental Illness. It keeps coming back. And people that do these acts are seriously disturbed. Psychologist dr. Jim dassing says while green may have been treated for Mental Health issues, they dont always know when someone is going to snap. We can only predict if someone has a history of violent behavior. We are only going by the track record. Reporter despite his condition, green was able to legally purchase guns. Governor Martin Omalley is trying to limit the access Mental Health paicials have to patients have to some kind of guns. A new report by the state of Maryland Task force is also calling for mandatory reporting of severely ill patients who make a threat. If someone makes a credible threat, whether it to be Healthcare Provider or educational or other, that should be reported to Law Enforcement and they should have to investigate that. Reporter but the task force also found that Mental Illness alone is not an indicator of violence. It showed alcohol, drugs, anger play a role. Some of these human things that we have. This front is going to come through slowly tonight. It will cross the east coast. Slow down, and a low pressure is going to develop along that frontal boundary. Somewhere off the carolina and virginia coast. Now in the 50s. West of us, much colder air out there. And well start tapping into that. Once low pressure forms along this front out here, the winds here go back to the north and northwest. That drags colder air in. So any precip late tonight and tomorrow afternoon, would more than likely be in the form of light snow. I dont expect to see a lot. But maybe a little accumulation forming, even on the Eastern Shore. By later in the day tomorrow. Even though they may not get much tonight. As the front goes through, temperature starts to fall. Low pressure there. And it heads up toward eastern new england. Here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight looked like doomsday in one russian city. A huge meteor caused a shock wave. We have incredible video of the event. [ explosion ] reporter the meteor exploded over a small russian town and caused a shock wave. Glass shattered, injuring hundreds of people. This woman went to the hospital with a bloody arm. Others had cuts on their faces and heads. The explosion rocked aun mo a mountain range. Cameras throughout the area caught the meteor as it streaks across the sty. Scientists say it was about the size of a bus. Some fragments fell to the ground. But its unclear if they hit anyone the meet the meet the meteor came without warning. I heard a loud bang. I live on the 23rd floor of a 24floor building. And all of a sudden, the lights are shaking and i hear car alarms going off. And it was just incredible. Reporter a zinc factory was badly damaged. The South African track star known as the blade runner cries in court as prosecutors accuse him of killing his girlfriend. His family says he is innocent. Tina kraus reports from london. Dorner killed four people, seeking revenge for being fired from the police force several years ago. A popular rapper is arrested on drug charges. Hammond is a prior county executive officer. He wants the next 21 months to put the issues of the past couple of years behind us and reinvigorate the county. The woman was pulling into her new jersey driveway when locane hit her. Prosecution says with time served, locane could be out in six months. Doctors are trying to save a little girls life. They performed a series of complex surgeries on her brain, without cutting into her skull. Alison harmelin reports tonight on healthwatch. Reporter when camilla gurato was just a few months old, her parents noticed she wasnt using her left hand. It was always crunched in a fist. She wouldnt transfer her toys from the right to the left. Reporter doctors discovered the 13monthold has a rare condition called arterio venus mal formation. The blood flow is disrupted in her brain because shes missing capillaries and her arteries are connected directly to her veins. The right side of the brain is severely affected. Her Cognitive Development is poor and she would no doubt develop seizures. Reporter they are hoping to close off the vessels without invasive brain surgery. They inserted a catheter into her leg and guided it to her brain. They then used what they call medical crazy glue. We need to have something that hardens immediately, literally within seconds. Reporter this is camillas third procedure. Doctors close off a few blood vessels during each surgery, to give her brain time to adjust to the changes. Its just been difficult to obviously deal with her having surgeries and at such a young age. Reporter doctors are optimistic camilla will do well cognitively, but may continue to have mild leftsided weakness. At least my daughter has a better chance.
