is just hurt by this. it's really an emotional time. >> people are not seeing all of the good stuff he's done to the community and the campus. >> reporter: rallying on campus and outside the paterno state college home, students pledged their support for the iconic coach. >> it's like a living legend. and now it's got to live in a bad way. >> reporter: many are calling this the most tragic end in the history of college sports. students are sickened by the allegations and the end of paterno's coaching career, a legacy these students hoped would live on. >> we are penn state! >> reporter: around camp us and downtown, many students are wearing t-shirts in support of joe paterno. additionally, penn state plays nebraska, a very big game. penn state students and fans typically wear white for what they call a whiteout. this weekend, they say they'll be wearing blue for a blueout, in support of fighting child abuse. in state college, pennsylvania, i'm jessica kartalija, wjz eyewitness news. >> and tonight, a ninth alleged victim has come forward and there are reports there could be as many as 20. >> reporter: on the loose, a busy interstate shut down, while police looked for a prisoner. mary is live with the latest on the search and the impact that it's causing. >> well, baltimore police shut down the jfx for about an hour while they searched for that escapee. 29-year-old maury figueroa, was reported missing from central booking earlier today. he was being held for driving without a license. also facing deportation. the jfx was shut down near 28th street. the exit there, while searching for the escapee, who was not found. virk? >> mary -- vic? >> mary, thank you. no word how figueroa escaped custody to begin with. >> at this hour, bge crews, along with workers from out of state are working to get gas restored for hundreds of homeowners in locust point. adam may has more on the repair effort. adam? >> denise, every once in a while, over the last hour, you get a lawmakers may still punish the state senator, ulysses currie. he will now face ethics complaints. with the grocery store chain that had him facing bribery charges in court. wjz is live. derek valcourt explains what the senator faces now. >> while his actions may not have been illegal, they may be unethical. and there is a possibility there could be some legislative punishments for that. >> reporter: the cloud of criminal conviction no longer hangs over the head of senator ulysses currie after a federal jury acquitted currie on all charges that his paid consulting for shoppers food warehouse was actually an illegal bribery scheme as prosecutors alleged. >> this is the greatest moment in my life. this is, by war -- far, the greatest moment of my life. >> reporter: his defense said that while they may have been ethics violations, they did not constitute violations of the law. >> reporter: currie may have escaped criminal punishment. but his relationship with shoppers food may likely earn him sanctions from the general assembly. >> senate committee will likely meet in january to consider currie's case. at least one vote on legislation that directly benefited shoppers. and most importantly, his failure, five years in a row to disclose his relationship to shoppers on the state ethics form as required all while being on the payroll. >> taking money is a big problem. >> reporter: they predict his ethics hearings won't have the same happy ending as currie's trial. >> they're probably going to look at these instances of behavior in a slightly different light as the jury did. if the state ethics panel finds that the actions were unethical, he could face anything from the equivalent of a slap on the wrist up to expulsion from the general assembly. derek valcourt, to clearing the baggage area. >> reporter: bwi is also adding four tsa checkpoints nearby. so look for signs to direct you. next, delta airlines will shuffle to air tran's old space. and its current home will be a construction site. the airport continues to grow every year. to make room, executives are launching a $100 million project to build a new connector from concourse b to c. as it stands, passengers go through security every time they go to and from, which can lead to a traffic jam. >> when you go through security, you have to take off your shoes. and you have to go through so much. i think just going through one time should be enough. >> reporter: the new connector includes nine security checkpoints, moving sidewalks and 8500 square feet of food and retail space. >> the ability to get from one place to another is important because there's different restaurants, different things in different dates. >> reporter: the expansion will provide access between all gates. >> reporter: this project is funded through existing airport-generated revenue sources. way too much of a good thing is officially the cause for a die-off of oysters in the upper chesapeake? alex demetrick reports, too much rain washed away the salty water off oysters that they need to survive. >> reporter: departments are in the upper chesapeake, looking for oysters, after reports from watermen that this part of the bay has experienced a significant die-off. and at least in isolated pockets. >> no live oysters. it's all the oysters are dead. >> and probably died after the tropical storms. when the salinities dropped. >> reporter: tropical storm lee alone pumped 29 trillion gallons of oil into the bay. pushing out saltier water. >> when the salinity gets too low, they are not age to maintain the normal processes that occur in their tissuesful. >> reporter: oyster processes like this are not going to recover. >> reporter: it may take another 10 years before we get more baby oysters up here. >> reporter: but south. bay bridge, the news is better. oyster stocks are doing well and being harvested. >> reporter: the crew found every oyster dead. and right there, i knew we were in trouble. >> reporter: and it's not heartening for those trying to restore oysters when all that comes up are empty shelves called boxes. >> reporter: it's pretty rattling when you hear these hit the table. >> reporter: now, the state will look into restocking areas affect the with baby oysters produced in the lab, a process that could take years. >> so amazing. the bay is so big. and all of that these huge winter storms. this is the first of many, i'm sure. for us, not much going on actually. a few showers possible tomorrow. that's about it. take a look at temps and conditions. pretty pleasant still. 58. 53 in ocean city. still a very mild 63 in cumberland. even oakland at 54 is pretty warm for this time of night. up in bel air, 59. and 55 over in annapolis and kent island and washington. winds generally out of the east and southeast. only got into the upper 50s and low 60s, rather than the upper 60s. we'll start seeing a change in the wind by tomorrow afternoon. they go back to the northwest as the front just crossing -- crossing through columbus, ohio. behind the front, it does get breezy and chilly. a little snow over iowa. if they did have as much as 5 to 6 inches. with marginal temperatures, it's cooling down there. that cold air will be rushing behind that front. right now, the shower activity into portions of western p.a., near pittsburgh, and now approaching buffalo, down into central west virginia. but you see how skinny that line of showers is? in fact, once you get past it, it clears up pretty nicely. there may be snow showers up there in the next day or so. even garrett county may see a few flakes in our region. things will clear out quickly and will get breezy and turn cooler for thursday night and friday as temperatures get back below normal. but by the weekend, already a warmup in the works for the weekend. quick look at sean. it may actually become a hurricane. briefly, tomorrow. before it moves west of bermuda. and just goes out to the atlantic. not having any impact on our area. but bermuda may see a little rain and wind in front of it. south winds becoming northwest as the front comes through. gusts to 20 knots and the focus is supposed to be the economy. but the allegations of sexual harassment against herman cain may dominate the headlines. danielle nottingham reports for wjz from washington. >> reporter: all eyes will be on herman cain when the gop field squares off in a prime time debate. cain will have to face more questions about the sexual harassment allegations that have dogged his campaign for more than a week. he tried to put the issue to rest tuesday. >> i have never acted inappropriately, with anyone, period. >> reporter: on stage in rochester, michigan, the other republican candidates are hoping to get back some of the spotlight. cain has been occupying the headlines, and they're ready to spar over the economy and their plans to get americans back to work. >> reporter: when the allegations first surfaced, some of cain's opponents steered clear. but now that the story isn't going away, cain's rivals are starting to say, he owes voters a better explanation of what happened. >> reporter: and republican strategists predict that shaking the controversy will only get more difficult in the days to come sharon bialek and karen kraushower, the two identifying themselves are planning to speak out. >> this absolute denial. no gray area, never met her, never saw them, never did it. if there is a receipt of them anywhere? a picture? anything that shows them together, it casts additional doubt. >> reporter: despite the accusations, cain is still performing well in the polls. >> in washington, danielle nottingham, wjz eyewitness news. >> and a new poll out from south carolina shows cain in second place, trailing leader mitt romney by 11 points. that state will hold the primary in the south. we are learning more about the trial of michael jackson's doctor. we are learning more about what happened in the jury room. >> reporter: while there were intense moments that included coaxing and yelling. dr. conrad murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for supplying michael jackson with the powerful drug propofol to help the singer sleep. juror number 5 said most of the jury decided he was guilty on friday. but because it wasn't unanimous, the panel decided to think it over the weekend and they reached a consensus monday. >> dr. murray faces up to four years in prison when sentenced later this month. right now, baltimore police are looking for a man who held up a gas station in pikesville. take a look at surveillance picture of the man. police say he walked into the shell station on smith avenue, pointed a handgun at the clerk and got away with about 300 in cash. anyone information is asked to call county police. and anne arundel county police are looking for a man who robbed a person while posing as an officer. it happened yesterday morning in brooklyn park. the 19-year-old victim was walking with his girlfriend, when the suspect pulled up and told the man he was violating the curfew. the fake officer then handcuffed the victim, stole his property and took off. >> the perry hall soccer team almost lost the chance to play in the state tournament. and now they're one step closer to the championship game. as gigi barnett explains, it's all over a controversial victory dance. >> reporter: perry hall high school's boy's soccer team is still on the road to the state championship. and they almost lost the chance, after doing this controversial victory dance called the bernie last week. >> we don't celebrate anymore. we just run to each other. just give each other high- fives. >> reporter: it was this dance performed after scoring the winning goal against delaney high school last week that landed the team in hot water. delaney parents called the bernie, lewd and inappropriate. so the boys' principal, george ronlts -- roberts, forfeited the win. but roberts soon changed his mind after heavy backlash from players and parents. >> the intent of my original decision was not to punish the students but to preserve the dignity and character of an educational-based athletic program. >> the whole thing is, if the principal wouldn't have reversed his decision, we would have never known that they would be the champs where they are right now. >> last night, they clinched the championships. practice is intense. they're one game away from the championship match. and perry hall is now a cinderella team. >> right now, i feel like it's all or nothing. >> no more bernie in public. >> reporter: the next up now is the state semifinals. that game comes on saturday night. and if perry hall wins, they'll advance to the >> we'll get to that. the ravens did hit the practice field. they had their heads high and focus forward. certainly feeling good about that big win in pittsburgh. but they've obviously had to turn their attention to a matchup. wide receiver lee evans has not seen game 2 of this action. says he hopes to make his comeback this weekend. others have been filling in quite high. that ride at pittsburgh has them at 2. that is first place. yet they are aware of what is at stake as they move forward. >> reporter: every year, the game is on the line. it's the seattle seahawks now. i've never been a guy who looked at a team's record. team's record don't mean anything in this league. >> rice is referring to seattle's weak record of 3-6. but he has recalled that the two losses of the season were to suppose supposedly inferior teams. you need only go as far as your couch. kickoff is sunday at 4:00. well, that hard-hitting, hard-fought game at pittsburgh, has hit a few players hard in the wallet. news of fines handed down by the league today, both steelers and ravens receiving punishment. the big penalty goes to steelers safety ryan clark for the hit he put on ravens' tight end dixon. according to the report, clark was fined $40,000. looked to be a clean play. but officials ruled dixon was a defenseless receiver, that's fined $50,000. clark reacted angrily today, said he had no respect for commissioner roger goodle. and it was a helmitt to -- helmet to helmitt. now, today, louis told us he called the league to plead his case. he shared no harsh words about the commissioner, but he clearly disagreed with how these hits are leading to penalties and fines. >> you definitely respect them trying to protect player safety. but at the same time, it won't change the way i play this week, no matter what the find is. you just can't stop playing defense the way defense has always been created to play. and that is, if the receiver has the ball, your job is to disengage him from the ball. you never. to hurt nobody. i've been in this business too long. the last thing you tonight do is hurt anyone. >> reporter: after talking to the league today, louis said he has no reason to talk to heinz ward, who he knocked out of a game with that hit to the head. in both cases, with the league and with heinz ward, louis says, you just move on. ray lewis has said that he would like to see them use radio review when they use those calls. what's interesting, there was not a review on him. it goes both ways. and platers, as you can see, with ray lewis, trying to ,,,,,, [ male announcer ] it's a rule of nature. you don't decide when vegetables reach the peak of perfection. the vegetables do. at green giant, we pick vegetables only when they're perfect. then freeze them fast so they're are as nutritious as fresh.
