time, bob. >> take a look at the baltimore area, it is just on the west side of town exactly where we said, as you can see on the west side of town from rice town right through woodlawn east of columbia, that is west of the belt way and it is moving due north in some of the areas, we saw massive flooding and there is more as you can see and more down to the south, but we are dealing with this activity throughout the night and at times we will be dealing with this again tomorrow. as far as warnings are concerned, yes we have flash- flood warnings through southern pennsylvania and as you can see, along the susquehanna along the potomac, a lot of streams are flooding as we speak. as far as the rainfall numbers, there is additional half to three quarters since we bit these graphics and a lot of places are over five inches of rain and a lot of place also come over six inches of rain during the current rainfall event. we will be doing well at least through the afternoon and tomorrow night, here is more. >> we have more on the flooding and all the problems it is causing tonight. derek. >> reporter: bob, we were talking about the additional rain and in fact we are getting it in the last half hour, it has started to pour in fact the waters are rising and these cars were parked on the side of the road. the gwyns falls runs south along parnell road and you can see the cars have moved the water up but police highly recommend you do not go through roads like that. folks here on gwyns falls said this is nothing like they have seen in a long time. >> this water is flowing right now. >> reporter: several buildings flooded and authorities went door to door checking on the structure and the people inside. >> i have had this store now for nine years and this is the first time. >> in baltimore county... >> there is flooding everywhere. >> washington and liberty, they are the lucky ones, drivers encountering road closure after road closure. >> we are here on dog wood road. >> reporter: check what is happening to the road literally huge chunks of concrete have been ripped up and a lot of folks in this neighborhood can't even get home. >> there has never been a time when we could not get home. most we have had heavy trees falling and the river would come up but never has it been up to the street, it is impossible. >> reporter: the flooding is so bad it forced businesses to close early like this daycare. and here at the auto parts, the roof collapsed and the flooding is catching many by surprise. >> i have been in baltimore my whole life and i have never seen anything like this in baltimore. >> reporter: it is overflowing into some of the nearby streets and a lot of streets around the western side of baltimore counties are closed tonight because of situations just like this and officials are urging you please do not drive through some of these waters. we can tell you already trying to resident cue folks has been tricky for some of these folks and they need help out of trying to rescue somebody else. live w j.z. eyewitness news. >> >> and fast moving water, sky chopper 13, with more on cars submerged, mike, what is the situation and where are you? we are in the hockeyville area and this is thornton mill road, i have lived in this area most of my adult life and i have not seen it since hurricane agnes. it has covered near broad and as mike works the camera, you can see york road completely closed here, just north of the hunt valley mall and there is actually another car a little further down here, i think it is to the right mark on the other side of these power lines. it is up a little further, right there see him on the right-hand side. there is another one going downstream. they called it a rescue apparently passersby saw the vehicle and thought it was occupied. we have not seen police but they have obviously seen it and we have not seen police go near it. swift water throughout the county and there are still areas in the county that are south of here at the old distell are you that still -- distillery that still floods. >> here is more on the storm in baltimore city, andrea? >> reporter: well the rain has started to pick back up here. we have been out for hours and now the jones falls is at about six foot high, it is almost submerging the bridge to clipper mill road and of course that bridge is closed to the public and all this rainwater is also threatening homes. it looks like white water rapids but it is the jones falls near cross country boulevard. it is causing some to fear for their homes. >> i already got damaged from the last flood that came in our house but i wish they would move us or something. >> firefighters say they may evacuate the residents in this low-lying area. >> later on, we will have people check in throughout the evening and we will make sure we will sandbag. >> water is being pumped out and all she can do is wait. >> you know, how do you worry. >> and in that washington what is normally a busy area is closed because of all of the rainwater. now back live we are looking at flooded out parking lot, when we first started our live shots, that parking lot was not as wet, nearly as wet as it's now and the city of public works in various spots that normally flood makes all ever this rain, even non-flood zones are in danger. >> okay, you are getting a deluge out there now. megan is in historic eloquent city. >> reporter: the rain has subsided and that's exactly what officials have been hoping for. take a look, this is the river and it has been raging all day. it was enough to flood out main street and the river is so strong it is even causing problems for rescue workers this is river road, firefighters out there were called to rescue two people stranded on top of a flooded out car. they got in the water and fire boats tipped over, two firefighters tossed into the water and two other firefighters were able to rescue them, we talked to a firefighter about what happened. >> the condition of the river very quickly changed with large swells and an increased water flow. because of that both boats overturned and all of the rescuers went into the water. >> one firefighter did injure his shoulder, he is expected to be okay. we are told they have 22 swift water rescues just today. they are warning to stay off the road and they are worried more flooding could happen, i am megan, eyewitness news. right now, christie is in the weather controls, it is still messy, how does it looks. >> as you can see it remains to be from our life shot broken land parkway, heavy traffic in the roadway but if you are traveling southbound, the off ramp that is completely closed off. the west side is also closed there. it opened from south boulevard and liberty and mariesville and cockiesville mill road. and middle town and stables mill. waterloo and mission road. let's go back and take a live look, southbound at broken lane parkway and we will continue to bring you up to date throughout the newscast, back to you. >> now we will check in with sky chopper 13, we have a situation going on and again more flooding in the neighborhood, mike? >> reporter: we were telling you many years ago there was an underpass that went through the distillery which was an underpass and it flooded very frequently and this sort of was representative of the type of flooding we have see. we have not seen this and this is where the u hall trucks which are all up to their grills in water. both are closed south of weight avenue, also y-road and this particular amount of water is going to the western run you can see -- pan up just pan straight up, straight to the right up a little bit more, left a little bit more, that is the cockiesville school bus depot where he is parked and you can see several school buses sitting in four feet of water. so this area is prone to flooding and there is a whole lot more worried about getting into that area. >> you are just south of valley view farms? [ female announcer ] see for yourself, aetna.com aetna. know more. get better. . now just after 6:30, thank you so much for staying with w j.z., a day of intense rain all across central maryland many roads watched out when gwyn oak avenue was under at least a foot of water. take a look, this manhole cover was able to contain the water and they are tracking first warning live doppler radar, first now bob. >> heavy down pours moving across the region and we saw heavy flooding now getting another batch of heavy rain and from baltimore county through the eastern sections down through harper county and another batch with that rain moving north will likely see more rain tonight and it could be heavy at times and there is a very good risk of flooding into tomorrow. we do flood warnings in effect for central maryland and they have extended it because of run off and they are still going to have flooding from cars and streams. if you don't want to go out and pass any low-lying areas, you will run into flooding. as much as five to six inches of rain has fallen and we have new updates. we have 28.69 with the 37 inches of rain for the year and yes, there is more to come tonight and probably tomorrow through the weekend, a slight chance, here is more. >> first weather coverage, live in baltimore coverage with how this flooding is, derek? >> a long parnell drive just off of gwyn oak avenue, this water is rising so fast. >> reporter: just a little while ago we could see the license plate on the front of this car and now it is just about over the hood. it was not like that a little while ago and these cars were parked here. homeowners left them here. i want to show you where this water is coming from and this is the gwyns falls and it's overflowing, the water is coming out of the gwyns falls and it is too much, they are really adding to the flooding and if you think it is bad here, check it out, downtown in the city on main street there, the water was flooding just about like a river a little earlier, catching a lot of people in that area by surprise. the waters rose fast did damage to a lot of buildings in that area, it overwhelmed the storm damage system as it has in many areas around maryland today. in fact if you come back out live they are taking there is a gentleman standing and he is looking at the damage to some of these cars, do not drive through any of the standing water. >> thank you, we have been flooding by viewers watching the storm and we have more in our web center. >> people have been emailing pictures and you can see the flooding has forced police to shut that road down. this is a shot of a flooded outfield in white hall. along the jones falls there is plenty of flooding there too. this is security boulevard and look at that car it looks more like a wooded area than a could he have. >> coverage continues and traffic control has more on the road situation, christie? >> well kyle, what a mess. let's go to alive shot, that is completely watched out with a delay in the other direction pretty heavy as well. if they are traveling on the west side, we have stevenson and also in the south belt direction, it is closed in that direction. if you are traveling on tip better road, that is closed between owen mills and ivy mill and cockies mill, york road between over brook and schwartz avenue also closed between wilson point and short road, that is closed in the rosewood area. westchester and also in the he will kate city area, frederic road and another area. it is completely watched out and if you don't have to drive, we are not recommending it. don't try to travel back over those standing waters, back to you. >> watches and warnings at any time?
