are shopping on their computers and smart phones. in fact, today could set a record for online sales. >> from a tandem store front, mapetite shoes has a worldwide site online. it is broadening its site monday. >> people's moods and attitudes are better. everybody is feeling more confident about their holiday spending this year. pretty much everything we have, we try to have it represented online, especially with our shoe selection. >> the national retail federation gave birth after noting that they were hot on spending after the weekend and using high-speed connections to shop when they got back to work monday. >> have you thought about shopping online? >> yes. if i wasn't working retail, and was shopping, i'd definitely be online. they have the same deals online. >> reporter: most running deals today only, the impact on the state's economy is huge, adding to what has already been a promising november. >> we've had indications that we have a stronger-than-last year selling season. last week, we have seen the increases that are encouraging. >> reporter: for some shoppers, it's more about avoiding packed stores and packed parking lots. >> yeah, i tend to get irritated really with a lot of crowds. so i figure if i do it at home or in the office, it's easier for me. >> convenience. >> reporter: and the feds also today shut down more than 80 websites what they say were selling counterfeit merchandise. the attorney general issued a warning saying if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. reporting live in hampden, mike hellgren. >> cyber monday was almost a dud for comcast customers. internet service has been restored after a major outage. comcast is still trying to figure out what caused that outage last night. holiday shopping ends with a trip to the hospital in baltimore county. a 3-year-old and her babysitter are rushed to the hospital after an accident at white marsh mall. the babysitter was carrying the baby in his arms when he fell. the baby then tumbled out of his arms. the baby is being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. and the babysitter had minor injuries. vic, she was caught red- handed. the woman police thought was the victim of an armed robbery, spotted kissing the man who targeted a woodlawn toys r us. it happened at the temporary store inside security square mall. police initially received report of an armed robbery. but after reviewing surveillance video, they sydneyed -- they noticed the store manager was hugging and kissing the robbery suspect just moments before he entered the store. >> reporter: when the investigators began talking to her more, she, in fact, did confess that her and her boyfriend had set the robbery up to make it look like a robbery but that they had taken a large sum of money. now, a large sum of that money taken has been recovered. >> the robbery took place on the saturday after thanksgiving, known as one of the busiest shopping days of the year. vic? >> denise, thank you. the toys r us store has only been open since october. a plea deal rejected. tonight, a man accused of throwing his own son off the key bridge will stand trial. police say steven nelson admitted to officers that he threw his 3-year-old son off the bridge back in 2008. a judge said the deal between nelson and prosecutors would have been too light of a sentence. both sides are now scheduled to return to court tomorrow morning. an atm scam helps thieves run off with a lot of money. these men installed a device. investigators say the men were able to download account information and make fake atm cards. if you recognize the suspects, you're asked to call police at 410-313-3200. damage control tonight. the leak of classified documents reveals embarrassing details of u.s. intelligence. joel brown reports for wjz on the response. >> the nation's top diplomat tried to mend fences after the massive leak of stolen secrets. >> the united states deeply regrets the disclosure of any information that was intended to be confidential. >> reporter: secretary clinton has her work cut out for her. whistle-blower website, wiki leaks, released documents. classified cables, including details, like the saudi king's suggestion the u.s. attack iran's nuclear program. one table described afghan president hamid karzai as driven by paranoia. all information never intended to be public. >> this disclosure is not just an attack on america's foreign policy interest. it is an attack on the international community. >> reporter: but the government says the leaks are more than just embarrassing. they could endanger the lives of confidential sources. it's prompted a government-wide review of how the u.s. protects its classified information. >> the u.s. government is going to have to demonstrate to foreign counterparts that we can keep secrets. >> reporter: wiki leak's founder defends the leak. accusing the obama administration of covering up human rights abuse. and the fallout may be far from over. wiki leak has thousands of documents yet to be released. >> the government says it is still investigating exactly who leaked the documents. but suspicions center around an army to 46. but out to the west of us, there is a big batch of rain as you can see, heading toward chicago, louisville, nashville. and guess where it's headed next. yeah, right for our region. what that means for us, bernadette woods in the outback. >> the clouds come in tonight. the rain moves in tomorrow. but the heavier rain is going to pick up overnight tomorrow into wednesday. we have the potential for a few rounds of heavy rain. and maybe even a thunderstorm out of this. because of that, take a look. flash flood watch has been posted for most of our state. that does start later tomorrow into wednesday. and you can see all north and west of us, the same idea. there's the timing of the heavy rain. again, the rain itself will move in tomorrow. but the heavier rain is overnight tuesday into early wednesday. and again, we may get a thunderstorm out of this. that will bring more changes for the end of the week. and we'll have that forecast coming up. now, back inside. >> okay, bernadette and bob. another victory at home for the ravens. they get a confidence boost. now, the team focuses on their bitter rivals who come to town next. sports director mark viviano has more on what they say next. >> reporter: have l, just moments after -- well, just moments later, they shifted their focus to the steelers. first, it did take all they had to put away the ravens' record, to 8-3. >> reporter: the ravens' 8th straight home run win was nothing spectacular. but this year in the nfl, nothing is. joe flacco was beaten up by the buccaneers' defense, sacked four times. but the ravens' offense was able to pull off two big plays that made all of the difference. flacco to todd heap for 65 yards. that gave baltimore the second leap in the quarter. they added to it second now, the officer and the suspect remain here. a young man just starting his police career. the other, a convicted felon, adding to his already lengthy criminal career. >> reporter: police say 30-year- old franklin gross is the man who brazenly shot a city officer in uniform. which set off a wild gunfight at north calvert and baltimore street. investigators say he then fled and fired again. more than 20 shots were exchanged. >> and engaged the suspect in a running gun battle. >> the battle unfolded saturday morning at 1:00 a.m., just before bars were closing up for the night. >> you always hear about how a bullet can go against the building and maybe hit somebody or something like that. you know, this isn't the wild west, you know. >> we were getting people caught up in the middle of all of it. >> reporter: the police commissioner says the officers involved with the shootout acted appropriately. they are members of the tactical unit. >> reporter: gross was the only person they wounded. police say the officer they shot first confronted groman because he appeared to be armed. his criminal history includes three felony convictions for assault, possessing a handgun and assault during a robbery it smashed into a franklin streetlight pole. police found him at a nearby high school. now, gross faces multiple charges, including attempted murder. >> reporter: gross will be form formally charged. as for the officer, he is expected to make a full recovery. we're live in downtown baltimore tonight, weijia jiang, wjz eyewitness news. >> okay, weijia. thank you. the mayor also supports the officer's actions. but a routine internal investigation into the shootout is under way. >> let's check in on our roads right now. here's kristy breslin. >> hi, mary. hi, everyone. we have an update for you, southbound 95, sky eye chopper 13 is live over the scene. as you can see, plenty of congestion there. the ramp for key highway is blocked. it involves a sedan into a tractor-trailer. so a better bet would be to take route 40 or even 395 because you could be stuck in that for quite sometime. as far as northbound goes, heavy from pulaski to the beltway. over to the beltway itself, we have delays to watch out for there. the north side inner loop continues to be heavy there. over on the west side outer loop, heavy from 95 to liberty road. average speed, only about 25 miles an hour. as far as 70 goes, slowing in both directions. westbound just bumper to bumper from 29 to mareiat -- marriottsville road. cleanup continues. and two crashes to watch out for in at temps now. it's dropping just a bit. but our high was 50. 25 this morning. exactly half of that. this morning was the chilliest so far at bwi marshall. and even though it was 25 at the airport, do you want at the- - downtown at the science center, they have yet to have a frost or freezing temperature. this morning, they were 35 degrees. that's the urban heat island. and the river there. keeps things much milder. 51, 31 are the average. 13 degrees above zero. right now, 46. close to 50. and later, the dew point will be coming up, as air gets more moist. and the higher dew points mean we'll start seeing rain breaking out tomorrow afternoon. and it will keep us on a very mild air mass. until wednesday afternoon. until then, the winds come out of the south/southeast. moisture is beginning to grow. right out here. watch this during the last 12 to 18 hours. a whole bunch of shower activities. that front will cross with a lot of breeze, maybe thunderstorms. and perhaps heavy downpours as we go through the region. late tomorrow night and wednesday morning upon into the early afternoon. we'll get the mild afternoon. we're talking 62 degrees. then wednesday afternoon, the front pushes everything off here. another low pressure develops. we could see an inch to two inches some areas. maybe even 2 1/2 inches of rain. with storm drains still clogged with a lot of old leaves there. you're going to see some flooding on the roadways with just a given. they're going to overflow and cause problems. if you can git there and clean the gutters, that would certainly help. southeast winds. and on wednesday, we'll have a small craft advisory out there tomorrow. tonight, look for increasing clouds. 34 to about 40 in the city. and then tomorrow, cloudy skies. rain developing in the afternoon. becoming breezy or windy in the afternoon. much milder. upper 50s and staying there, all tomorrow night. so it will be mild tomorrow night. and into early wednesday am before it clears out is meeting now with the maryland jockey club and the partners in the ownership of laurel and pimlico. and the news is not good. >> reporter: maryland horse racing becomes a game of chicken. >> what's the talk on the back stretch? >> fear. >> that fear escalated today, when the maryland jockey club ask track owners delivered what horsemen considered a death blow. a proposal to cut live racing from laurel from 130 to 17 days and limit pimlico to just 30 days around preakness. >> i'm on a sinking ship called the titanic. i'm a crewmember and the ship is going down and i'm going down with the ship. >> had outraged some of the commission. >> you guys just don't give a damn. >> they liken the reduction to a horse with a broken leg. >> these are tantamount to us of no racing either. what's corruption reveals 36 prince george's county police officers are accused of misconduct. according to internal police records, in 19 of those cases, investigators believe the officers committed a crime. and three of the cases are tied to the federal investigation of county executive jack johnson. tragic end to a football became. -- game. tonight, police are saying one man's deadly end is a tragic accident. >> the 23-year-old plunged to his death during halftime during the bears-eagles game. they say stuart haverty fell onto the roof of an area. there are conflicting reports on how he fell. a soldier calls the death an unfortunate accident and isolated incident. >> this comes a week after a toddler fell to his death at a lakers game in los angeles. desperate search. three michigan boys mission there are three days now. they vanished the same day their father tried to commit suicide. jeff glor reports, the father says he gave his sons away. >> a prayer vigil was held as a community holds out hope for the safe return of three missing boys. 9-year-old andrew, 7 yeerg-year- old alexander and their brother were with their father for visitation. he posted on facebook. i love my wife very much. may god and tanya try to forgive me. >> he then attempted to hang himself in his home. when a friend called, skelton was taken to the hospital. but the three boys were nowhere to be found. as the fbi continued to search for the boys, they fear the children are in extreme danger. and according to a family friend, the children's mother, who is divorcing her husband, is overwhelmed with worry. >> and this particular parent wants everybody to know how much she misses her children and she wants them back. and she's hoping that anybody out there that has any knowledge will please come forth. >> reporter: skelton told investigators he asked a woman named joanne taylor, who he met several years ago online to take the boys to her mother. but the silver minivan she was supposed to be driving turned up nothing. >> at this point, we have not been able to confirm or deny that joanne taylor exists or who she is exactly. we are continuing to pursue all possible leads to locate this individual and determine who she is. >> reporter: over the weekend, police searched skelton's home and did confiscate a vehicle. >> so far, police did concentrate their search on the areas boys have been known to frequent. so far, they haven't had any luck locating the boys or the mysterious women. -- woman, the boy's father says he left them with. opening fire and killing six u.s. service members. officials say it happened in the training mission in the eastern part of afghanistan. the taliban tried the attack. this is the latest in a series of shootouts. well, a holiday terror plot. the teenager accused of trying to set off a bomb during a christmas tree lighting ceremony in oregon is scheduled to appear in court today. ben tracy is in portland with the details for wjz. >> reporter: as a crowd of 10,000 gathered for traditional tree-lighting ceremony, mohammed osmond mohammed, hoped to fulfill a dream he had had since the age of 15. using a bomb to create mass carnage. they targeted family, women and children. telling undercover agents, i want them to leave them dead or injured. what he did not know is that federal agents had given him a van of fake explosives after he tried twice with his cell phone to detonate the bomb, they swooped in. >> the arrest team moved in and arrested him. >> reporter: the 18-month fbi sting operation tracked mohammed as he planned the attack and purchased bomb- making materials from the feds. the fbi even oversaw what mohammed thought was a practice run, allowing him to blow up a backpack of explosives in a remote location. he planned last friday's attempt for maximum impact, telling undercover agents, it's going to be a fireworks show, a spectacular show, new york times will give it two thumbs up. >> he demonstrated early on, a serious commitment to commit violent jihad. >> reporter: karen cheney is moving out. >> his mother is my neighbor. and that is terrifying to me. >> reporter: the somali-born u.s. citizen was also a student at oregon state in corvallis, 90 miles south of portland. sunday, an islamic center there, where mohammed went to pray, was partially destroyed by fire. investigators are suspecting arson but don't know if it was retaliation. >> we don't know if it was someone walking past and set the fire or if it was a targeted event. >> there are already questions raised over whether that the fbi did was entrapment. >> but the bur bureau says they will offer that they always gave mohammed an alternative. working at the department of defense but will not affect military personnel. if it is approved by think can, the freeze will take effect on january 1st. it is expected to result in more than $5 billion in savings for the next five years. time now for a quick look at what you'll see in our special section on our home page. two key figures in iran's nuclear program were targeted in separate bombings today. suspicions mount as iran continues to expand its nuclear capability. charlie d'agata has more on that story for wjz. >> reporter: twin bomb attacks in iran killed a nuclear scientist and injured another. assailants on motor bikes planted explosives on them as they went to work. one of them killed majid. they said the bombs were the work of israeli agents. iran's president pinned the blast on israel and the west, saying without a doubt, the attacks are aimed at iran's nuclear program. but opposition leaders accuse the government of plotting the attacks to spread fear in the capital, where many oppose president obama mahmoud mahmoud ahmadinejad's regime. this was released. several reported them to attack before it's, quote, too lady late. ahmadinejad dismissed the statement, saying iran and regionals are friends. the explosions are the latest in a target of of attacks. an israeli government spokesman would not comment on monday's bombings. washington has strongly denied any link to the previous killings. iran's nuclear chief warned the west and its allies not to play with fire, saying it could not stop tehran from developing its atomic program. in london, charlie d'agata, wjz eyewitness news. >> they have accepted a date. but vows iran's right to enriched uranium is not up for negotiation. a fire tears through istanbul. officials say work was being done on the station's roof when the fire broke out. the station was evacuated and all trains were temporarily stopped until the fire was under control. no one was injured in the blaze. at the right place at the right time. a 10-year-old boy thanks an off- duty colorado state trooper for saving his life. 10-year-old brendan david fell through ice saturday, trying to retrieve his friend's cell phone. accidentally thrown onto the icy pond. luckily, when he started to drown, trooper dan hawley brought him to shore. he applauded the young boy for his courage. >> he was incredible, like i said. he stayed calm. just let me help him. >> i don't think i would have made it. >> brendan's parents were overwhelmed with gratefulness. they say if trooper haley had not been busy in the park with their own family, he may not have made it. more speculation about whether or not prince williams should take the throne before prince charles. now, the palace sets the record straight. >> reporter: from the time he was a child, through his teenage heartthrob years, to dashing officer with his future bride by his side, prince william has also occupied a warm spot in british public opinion. it was an affection enhanced by the sympathy he received at the time of his mother's shocking death. and it's in some contrast to the public image enjoyed by his father, who has blown so luke warm and cold over the years that opinion polls have consistently shown william would be a more popular next king than his father. that the succession should skip a generation. don't hold your breath. nameless sources have been quoted here, saying william wants to squash any speculation that his father won't be the next monarch. william, we're told, has no desire to, quote, climb the ladder of kingship prematurely. >> prince william would be deeply embarrassed if he was put in the role of is still apparently in excellent health. there does not seem to be any urgency in discussing who will succeed her. and while we're speck speculating, could it be that the wedding will bring prince beneficial to some children. >> reporter: ann feeds her daughter sophie a balanced diet, including foods with good bacteria. >> we definitely use cheese and yogurt and things that have probiotics in them naturally. >> reporter: from yogurts to milks to formula, many add probiotics to formula for children and adults. it helps keep the intestinal track healthy. now, a new report finds probiotics may have some healing power when it comes to certain childhood illnesses. >> if you have an acute infection, stomach bug, or if the youngster taking the antibiotics that if they get diarrhea, that they have been proven to be beneficial in that sense. >> reporter: although plenty of companies already market them, the report isn't recommending probiotic negligence in -- probiotics in infant formula yet. >> they should not be given to children who are seriously ill or have compromised immune systems. as for this mom, she says she'll stick with getting good bacteria, simply from food. >> there's no reason not to in a natural fashion. >> reporter: researchers say more studies are needed before probiotics can be recommended for other digestive disorders for children. including
