but investors are worried that greece's financial troubles will spread, to shake your economies like spain and portugal. until that passes, wall street is likely to stay on pins and needles. >> tomorrow, investors are hoping there will be upbeat news about the job market. at the new york stock exchange, farnoosh torabi. dow is down 248 points, losing about 3% of its value. coming up all new at 5:30, closer look at greece and how it's impacting wall street. a baltimore person could lose his eye after at home. well, the officer was off duty when he was returning home. and the sheriff's office there is now calling this a hate crime. james kim bel was arrested at the scene of this attack and charged with assault and hate crime. kim bel reportedly yelled at the officer about speeding before hitting him the officer was rushed to johns hopkins bayview emergency. doctors told police that his eye may not function properly again. >> mayor rawlings-blake has issued a statement about the attack. she says she is troubled by this morning's violent attack. and quote, there is no place in our society for any violence, particularly racially-motivated violence. an update to the breaking news. the search for this. >> we are along the susquehanna river, about a quarter mile north of the conowingo dam on the harford county side. earlier today, we know that fire officials were called to the glencoe marina for report of a body found, or seen floating by in the water. now, fire officials, we have just confirmed, have, indeed, found a body on the harford county side about a quarter mile north of the conowingo dam. at this point, it is not clear how this drowning occurred. we do know that lancaster county officials were searching the susquehanna on the pennsylvania side for a possible boating accident. but at this point, it is not clear whether the person may have found here -- they have found here, is, indeed, that person. harford county officials continue to investigate. and resources are on the scene. >> thank you, mike perry, reporting live. a college student charged with killing his ex-girlfriend. a popular lacrosse player from harford county. the funeral for yeardley love will take place on saturday. >> so far, the family has grieved in private. but there was an outpouring of support on a vigil at the uva campus last night. just as new reports are surfacing that shed light on her accused killer. >> reporter: yeardley love and george huguely seemed to have it all. both were privileged -- popular athletes from privileged backgrounds. but huguely admits that he shook love, hitting her head on the wall. the university held a vigil where school leaders spoke candidly about the violence. >> i hope for yeardley and for you, that her dying inspires an anger, a sense of outrage, that no one need ever fear for safety. >> virginia's governor has now called for a meeting with uva's president, saying he wants to study and fully consider every possible idea that could help prevent such a senseless crime from taking place in the future. huguely's lawyer claims it was an accident. >> this seems like it is a tough case for the defense. and the question is how much can defense counsel mitigate the harm? >> reporter: what may be less harmful in court but shed more light into huguely himself are his run-ins with police. wjz already told you about this officer who ran into him after a huge alcohol burst. he had a heated argument with his dad and had to be rescued from the ocean. in fact, wjz has learned that 8 of uva's men's lacrosse players have been charged with alcohol- related offenses. the director says he had never heard of his past. >> i never heard it. absolutely never heard it. >> reporter: now, yeardley's body is found at the funeral home in towson tomorrow. and also new tonight, we have learned that love's relatives are working on setting up several memorial funds in her honor. reporting live at the cathedral of mary our queen. mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> a viewing will be held for yeardley love tomorrow. that will be an emotional day as well at the ruck funeral home in towson. funeral services saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the cathedral of mary our queen. trains between baltimore and washington were delayed today after a deadly accident. it happened around 12:30 this afternoon. that's when the amtrak excel express hit the track. that person on the track was killed. there were 153 people on board the train. none of the passengers were hurt. amtrak says the victim was trespassing on the tracks. but there is no word on why. several arundel mills wall mart employees are accused of theft tonight. police are investigating the alleged theft of $237,000 worth of tires and other merchandise from the store in hanover. wal-mart security officers told police they caught the five employees in an internal investigation. store managers confronted the employees and told police they signed statements, detailing their involvement. no charges have been filed yet. an extensive search in harford county tonight for victims of a peeping tom. investigator the say he has -- investigators say he has invaded the privacy of a dozen victims. weijia jiang has more on evidence connecting him to 20 young women. weijia? a city council woman. derek valcourt is live at city hall, as prosecutors try to pursue bribery charges. >> and a judge has already thrown out those bribery charges. but an appeal by prosecutors means councilwoman helen holton is not out of the woods just yet. >> councilwoman helen holton has maintained her innocence, ever since this indictment, accusing her. >> on some level ti've been convicted. before there's ever even been a trial. >> last year, a baltimore judge threw out bribery charges against hoton, saying the state's legal immunity law protects them. they say prosecutors argue her conduct was criminal and therefore should not be protected by legislative immunity. >> we want to make sure that legislators feel free to vote without repercussions, to discuss freely on the floor of a legislative body what they think, without having it come back to haunt them. that's the theory behind legislative immunity. >> reporter: but the office of state prosecutor, robert rohrbaugh says the judge who threw out the charges is wrong, arguing legislative immunity doesn't apply. >> there's not a whole lot of case law on this stuff, but i'm not persuaded by the argument. >> it's one day at a time. >> reporter: it's likely prosecutors will push ahead with campaign finance charges against her. well-known develop are john paterakis, who helped develop the growth in the east. and ronald lipscomb may be called to testify for how they helped pay. the amount on their paychecks, well beyond the legal limit. >> and whoever loses this appeal is unlikely to file to maryland's highest court. that means any trial for helen holton will likely not go for another six months to possibly a year. >> derek, thank you. the state prosecutor's office declined an interview for the story, saying two more in annapolis. forest park. and there is a look at a delay, approaching 70. there is a look at the beltway. you can see the beltway speeds, 17, 22, 35. not good. there's a look at 95. also not shock trauma after being struck by a pickup truck. suzanne collins learns, accidents like that in baltimore county are way up. >> during the busy rush hour tuesday, citizens tried to help the man lying on the road who had just been struck by a pickup truck. police didn't know his name. and wjz aired his photo at their did -- request, as he remained in critical condition at shock trauma. neighbors recognized him as a french citizen staying here. and now, french police are alerting has family. >> the driver of that truck did stop and assist. >> pedestrian accidents, especially fatal ones are way up in baltimore county. they involve bicyclists, joggers and people on foot. from 2006 to 2008, an average of 15 people were killed. last year, that rose to 19. in the first four months ever this year already, 8 have died. and if that rate conditions -- continues, there could be 24 deaths before year end. >> what we're finding is of those accidents that involve a pedestrian, that generally the pedestrian is at fault. >> reporter: the police report shows the truck drive in tuesday's crash may not be at fault. >> reporter: police say the bicyclist didn't have a helmet on. and they believe he was riding in the middle of the lane. they also say the driver probably had a blind spot when he came over the hill. >> a group says it wants drivers to know of a new law. >> drivers need to know to give psyche lifts three feet when passing, which is a safe passing distance. because of the rising numbers, county police have been out giving warnings to pedestrians to violate laws. >> we'll start late. both the pedestrian and the motor vehicle operator have a responsibility here. >> fatalities so far. they were rioting outside the beltway. mostly on rural roads without news. here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight. a brazen murder inside a busy parking mall parking lot. now, years later, there is proof those changes are working. >> reporter: a fatal shooting at towson town center sparked major changes in baltimore county security. in 2005, 58-year-old william bassett was shot in the head during what police say was a busy shopping hour at the mall. that crime, and a series of other robberies led to the installation of high-intensity lights at towson town center. increased patrols through parking lots and led to a law requiring security cameras, like this one, be placed in mall parking lots throughout the county. >> not only solved crimes. i think it has deterred crimes. and also resolved false allegations of crimes. >> reporter: baltimore county counselor kevin caminet sponsored it in 2005. and attributes a decrease in mall-related crime. >> crime has decreased 17% in the county. and the police have advised that they have solved three homicides as a result of the video surveillance. >> reporter: now, caminet says he wants to give county police direct access to the security feeds, improving response times. >> an incident takes place, a commander can bring it up on the screen in the squad car. and as they are approaching the crime scene, they can assess the situation even before they get there. >> reporter: in baltimore county, all malls with 15 or more stores are required to have exterior cameras in all public parking lots. at towson town center, i'm jessica kartalija, wjz eyewitness news. >> and yesterday, maryland attorney general doug gansler said he is endorsing councilman's bid for executive. a shooting at elementary. police say the student suffered minor injuries. they recovered the gun and detained the student who used it. an nfl hall-of-famer is charged with raping a teenage girl. denise is in the newsroom with more on this story. lawrence taylor was arrested. taylor was in court a short time ago and was arraigned on patronizing a prostitute. they say she was told to have sex with taylor, who, after that assault, gave her $300. rashied davis is also arrested in the case. he's being charged with unlawful imprisonmentprisonmentprisonmen and detrainment of a child. 50 miles out in the gulf of mexico, work crews are now lowering into the gulf. it will not be easy. >> new video shows just how far the oil has spread. it has already moved into the mississippi delta, despite a major cleanup operation. >> more than 10,000 personnel are currently here in the gulf region, responding, in order to protect the shoreline and wildlife. >> reporter: this 98-ton structure is british petroleum's best plan so far for stopping the oil. engineers are using a crane to guide the four-story dome as it sinks 5,000 feet. >> i think the tree is getting over the hole. it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. although you know where the needle is. >> reporter: the water temperature is only 42 degrees. so a potentially volatile combination of methanol and water must be used to keep the oil pipes from clogging. >> reporter: if the cap works, it's expected to reduce the oil flow by 85%. but environmentalists say the damage has already been done. >> young crab, young shrimp. young oysters even. then, of course, you have the birds. >> ricky ott says this could be a major hit to the ecosystem. >> we're losing because the oil is in the water column. and right now, it's killing things that we can't see. little baby eggs. larvae, embryos. juvenile fish. >> and we capital wednesday. fearful of cutting tax -- salaries and raising taxes. what began as a peaceful march turned violent as protestors threw bombs and rocked police. police responded with tier gas. dozens were injured. police had no intention of cutting down. fortunately the say it's the only way to keep greece from going completely bankrupt. if that happens, it could push other european street are concerned that the greek economic problems will eventually travel to the united states. at one point, the dow was down nearly 1,000 points. here's a look at the closing numbers. dow was off 38. 3% of its value. in tonight's wjz healthwatch, the impact of a stressful job and what it has on a woman's risk of heart disease. researchers followed 12,000 women and found those who described their jobs as very stressful had a 50% higher risk of heart problems. age wasn't even a factor in the study. even younger women with demanding jobs were more likely to develop heart disease. time now today for passengers on board a greyhound bus. police arrested the passenger after a passenger reported having a bomb on board. the bus was traveling to maine and was en route to new york city. police say all passengers but one was removed safely. that one passenger remains on board and is being questioned. another bus is being sent to take the passengers to their final destination. new video released of a baggage cart. out of control inside bush intercontinental airport in texas. a surveillance camera was rolling when the car crashed into others last month. others rushed in to help. four
