Crushed cars and a tractor trailer on top of a truck all part of a massive truck on 83 northbound. The wreck happened just over the Maryland Line and left traffic backed up for hours. We are live along i83 and we have more on the chaos. Reporter police say a tractor trailer rear ended another vehicle causing a Chain Reaction crash that closed down 83 for hours. Mangled, twisted metal all thats left of 10 vehicles involved in a major crash on 83 northbound near the loganville exit just 8 miles into pennsylvania. I just had people yelling into the truck with me. Reporter jordan was driving the flat bed seen here on its side when he was hit from behind. All of a sudden, you know, i felt a hard bang and was being pushed forward and the truck flipped over. Reporter he was trapped inside the truck and managed to crawl out a window. What he saw looked like a war zone. It took emergency workers hours to clear the scene shutting down 83 north. I have no idea how to get home around 83 at this point. Ill figure it out, though. Thank goodness i live around the corner. Reporter taking the back roads did not helpen some drivers. At one point, traffic was backed up all the way to the Maryland Line. We stopped for gas. It was a mess. Reporter some drivers out of their cars, others just trying to turn around to avoid the mess. I dont want to be up in it. Reporter as for jordan, he thinks someone was looking down on him from above. Everyone said i had an angel on my shoulder. Reporter 7 people were injured in that crash. A car plows into 8 rotc students in a parking lot. They were practicing military marching when they were struck tonight. Police say the sun may have gotten into the eyes of the 19 yearold driver. Hes now charged with negligent driving. All eight students are expected to recover. A car crashes into a jeep and bursts into flames. The families of three People Killed and the sole survivors blame the officers for starting a chase. Now more than 48 hours later, the commissioner addressed the controversy but gives few details. Derek has the questions that are still unanswered. There are issues i have concern with over all with the incident that took place out there. Reporter for the first time, Police Commissioner speaks to wjz about the fiery crash that killed three people early tuesday morning. Thats when two suspects were fleeing from Police Officers who were trying to pull them over after witnessing a possible crime. The two suspects died when their honda slammed into a jeep carrying angel. She also died. But the jeeps driver survived. Families want answers. Were Police Pursuing the suspects . And were they following the departments pursuit policy which allows a chase only under strict circumstances. They admit the officers followed them for miles but fell short of calling it a chase. There are holes and gaps and we havent talked to the officer yet. In the state of maryland, you have a strong officer bill of rights that gives them a certain amount of time. Before we jump oh it there and share a lot of information, we need to talk to the officers, talk to everyone, and build that picture. Reporter some family members of the victims are already pointing blamement. Who do you hold responsible . Police. Why . Because they shouldnt have chased the police. Reporter ed norris says the departments pursuit policy is all about citizen safety. He says frustration should be directed not at police, but at the suspect. I think people need to focus on the guys who were trying to get away for, i dont know what reason. Reporter when the investigation is over, theyll turn all the information over to the States Attorneys Office which will ultimately decide if any charges should be filed in the case. Police have identified the two suspects who identified in the crash. Dozens of people forced out of their homes when a county Apartment Building goes up in flames. The fire started around noon on the third floor of the building. 14 children are among the 27 people displaced tonight.
