reporter: while loved ones came together to celebrate brown's life, they want to make sure this case does not get swept under the rug. >> an out pouring of emotions as family and friends gathered at randalls town high school. it was here that the 17-year-old excelled before being killed last week during an altercation with an off duty police officer >> he's a great kid. infectious smile, great heart . >> ruled brown's death homicide. but the officer hasn't been arrested or charged. >> it's a lot different in what normally happens. we as citizens don't get 10 to 20 days to put a statement together. >> today the county executive spoke out for the first time about the investigation. >> i have met extensively with police chief johnson as well as state's attorney and they have assured me there will be a thorough investigation that will be fair and impartial. >> many are expressing outrage comparing it to the trayvon martin case. >> stop hiding the truth from our children. >> brown's mother was too upset to speak. loved ones say that vigil was to celebrate brown's life and help his family let go of some of the pain. >> he didn't even reach his full potential in life. >> and the maryland hard and tonight we are still trying to cool down. temperatures climbed into the triple digits matching a record that was set 90 years ago. people at federal hill park were feeling the heat. and found one way to cool down using the giant water fan set up for visitors on days like this one. kai jackson explains two straight days of heat are taking their toll. let's start with bob turk. >> current temperatures still very warm night considering our average high today is only 85. now 84 the cool spots out to the west. 72 and 73 in far western maryland. localp temperatures still around the low 80s as you can see. however, it looks like at least for the baltimore region we don't have a heat advisory. it is still in affect, you see those counties in delaware and over on the eastern shore. we talked about the records, we did tie that record today at 100 degrees. the average high 85. the record set way back in 1923. the heat index was around 100 degrees. the worst may be over. not completely. the next few days coming up. >> first morning weather coverage continues now. kai is live with maryland weather. >> reporter: makes it through a hot day but the affects of the heat were clearly felt. >> roasted again as the region sweltered with the temperature hitting 100 degrees >> it's hot. really hot. >> a heat advisory had those outside trying to stay cool and those inside trying to avoid going out. staying hydrated and taking breaks was a must. >> thursday's hot weather was intense and did produce heat related injuries. >> an 11 year old girl who burned her bare feet on metal stairs. she was taken on the hospital. >> we have an increase of patients that are becoming heat strokes. >> the hot weather puts a strain on people and the power grid. customers heeded warnings about conserving energy about worst case scenario of a brown out. >> our grid is able to handle the heat and the stress from increased usage very well. >> the tough job of firefighters is harder when they have to put on hot heavy gear. those who do yard work for a living felt the heat. >> it paid the bills but i wouldn't advise nobody to be out there. >> and in baltimore a person was began deliberating the jerry sandusky case comes a startling revelation from one of his own sons. through his attorney, matt said he met with prosecutors to say he was molested by his own father. matt is now 33 and adopted. he was prepared to testify but it's unclear why he was never called as a prosecution witness. the news about his son was not presented in court. so the jurors don't know anything about it. they are sequestered in a local hotel. earlier the jurors heard the defense and prosecution sum up their cases. passionately portrayed him as the victim of over cel us investigators and a legal system that convicted him before his arrest. called the 68-year-old a serial pedophile. he finished standing behind him telling jurors he molested and abused and hurt these children horribly. find him guilty of everything. wjz eyewitness news. >> now, juror are sorting through 48 criminal counts. if he is convicted he could spend the rest of his life in prison. >> george zimmermann telling his side of the story. he describes for detectives after martin saw zimmermann's gun. >> he said you are going to die tonight [bleep]. and he reached for it. i grabbed it and i just grabbed my firearm and i shot him. >> zimmermann returned to the scene one day after the scene to reenact it. he recalled his struggle with martin before he shot the teenager. zimmermann has pleaded not guilty. he's one of baltimore's most beloved. murray is under investigation for alleged insider trading. derek has more on probe for security and exchange commission. >> sends one to deep right black jetta. the two men blocked him and beat him unconscious. after the attack everyone drove away. authorities say there was a warrant out for the arrest because he failed to show up for early lingering clouds early into saturday. then some drier and yes cooler slightly cooler air moves in. we're watching a possible development of a tropical system. could become a tropical depression. to the west tonight, some clouds and scattered showers. the main front saw it here across the upper midwest. we're looking for that relief to come here in the form of the front with scattered thunder storms and lower humidity. looks like a nice afternoon and nice weekend. another cold front could bring us another scattered shower. and cools off even more than that on monday night tuesday and wednesday. southwest friends in the bay, nice. the heat is going to be gone. the bay temperature around 79. saturday night around 72 with partly cloudy skies. sprinkles or showers west of us. 94
