this is wjztv, wjzhd, and wj z.com, baltimore. from the city to the counties after tuscaloosa the giant twister kept going. another tornado hit the small town of comb. it was caught on video by a police captain. there are portions of coleman alabama that no longer exist. this was once a shop. you wouldn't believe it but there are portions of that building wrapped around this power pole. even the traffic light on the street. >> it's more of a loss than i can even comprehend. >> reporter: immediately after it passed people sprang into action. >> they were taking trees and moving them out of the way and pulling people out of houses. it's just amazing what we do when we need to. >> reporter: residents are staying positive. hundreds of thousands of people in the state are without power and it will likely take days to get them back on the grid. coleman alabama. and as we mentioned part of that massive system that hit alabama set off tornado warnings in our region. let's go to where bob is tracking the storms. >> reporter: we still have some activity northwest of dc. they are weakening somewhat there. this is the current view. the strongest just south of washington around man as as. we take it back this afternoon between 5:00 and 6:00. a tornado moved through the region between 7:00 and 8:00. another batch came up between 8:30 and 99. and this last batch moving up toward the dc area will probably get to the western suburbs in the next 35 to 40 40 minutes. i still have some advisories in effect for the next 15 15 minutes. i'll have a complete forecast coming up in just a few minutes. the lights are out but the memory of the day, baltimore and maryland said thank you and good-bye to william donald schaefer. kei jackson begins our complete coverage, kei. >> reporter: that's right, maryland honors and says good- bye to william donald schaefer. say his life and legacy challenge all to make a difference. members of the maryland national guard escorted the casket into st. paul's episcopal church. the ceremony began with a request from schaefer. former aid and friend laney was constantly by his side, profess ally and personally. she was holding his hand when he died last week after a bought with pneumonia. >> transitioned into a personal one that never stopped until the final moment of his life when i sat there holding his hand telling him how much i loved him. >> reporter: his vision helped shape the baltimore people see today. he grew up on the west side of town, was mayor, governor and state controller. but said he loved the job of mayor the most. >> when future generations peer through the telescope of history, let them say of him that when it came to caring for people and communities, that he did not waiver. >> but he would ask us, what are you going to do to help somebody today?
