thank for joining us. some severe weather rolled through maryland earlier tonight t. rain was pretty heavy at times, but it did lighten up for just a short time. we still saw a few people out and about enjoying the evening. you can see just a bit of light drizzle falling in the city. let's check in with bernadette woods. still some storms out there? >> there are still some. let's get to first warning doppler radar. we will update you on the situation going on. this is the initial line that brought us the problems, brought some hail as it moved through carol county and making its way over to delaware. on the southern side, still hanging in maryland. we'll be moving toward salisbury in the next hour. we're going show you behind that initial line, there's heavy rains coming through. we are getting the batches of rain. they are moving off to the northeast fairly slowly. not all that quickly. that is the same pattern we are seeing out to the west. all of these storms are moving off to the northeast. that's more where they came from. it the front is still going to last until tomorrow. we'll have the forecast coming up shortly. as the storms have rolled across the state, we have a on our website at wjz.com. we have an update on the search for a young girl that went missing. coast guard tells us they have suspended all search effort for the 11-year-old. it comes after several agencies searched nearly 60-mile for the child's body. in south carolina, search efforts continue for a maryland boy that went missing when he went swimming. lonny hill and two others went underwater. a number of people out there trying to help out as the coast guard is on the scene. the 13-year-old was participating in a baseball tournament in this area. brooklyn park hair salon was not open for business today. that he find grafitti and some their belongings stolen. the african-american family says they will not be intimidated by this rate crime. >> reporter: beyond the racist words, the vandal left the impression he wanted to set the salon on fire. >> the couches -- the couches saturated with gas, and they pretty much saturated everything with gas, the chairs, the dryers, the station. >> reporter: it's a crime that shocks the senses. one that involves racism. spray paint in this hair salon demeaning blacks and jews. >> you think things are getting different now. seeing this and me be so i didn't think, i feel like dang, this is what my parents were talking about. >> reporter: this front dallas was smashed at about 1:22 in the morning. there was a witness that called 911. they described the person, but they didn't know the race or gender. >> the subject had a black hoodie and was wearing blue jeans and tennis shoes. >> reporter: police say this is a hate crime and also theft and burglary. >> the next step is to get this all cleaned up and get it back open for business so we can have business as usual. we're not goinging to let this little incident stop us. >> reporter: a neighboring korean business is concerned about the racism and the threat of fire. >> could have started there. >> reporter: the hair salon says it will come back. >> i'm going to do all i can to give them the help they need and that's a facts. >> reporter: police say they responded to this same hair a salon for a broken glass. on that occasion nobody broke inside. >> thank you. police say they are taking this very seriously and they want all tips. they will also increase patrols in that area. city police are investigating a fatal shooting. a female victim suffer a gunshot wound to the upper torso. it was in the parking lot of the clubhouse lounge. the victim has nod been identified. a fire breaks out in the city leaving a firefighter with some minor injuries this weekend. it occurred around 4 this around in the 5900 block of bel aire road. crews had a tough time extinguishing this blaze. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. we're learning new details about last week's deadly helicopter crash over in california county. our media partners are reporting that the pilot was the son of howard county election administrator betty norris. stay with eyewitness news for the latest from investigators. you can log onto wjz.com for extra videos. down top washington, d.c., a metro train operator is on paid administrative leave. it comes after the operator opened the train doors on the road side of the platform at the water front station. this driver has not been identified, but a drug as alcohol test has an add ministered. officials are investigating the incident. they are trying to determine how the operator should be disciplined if he is. a harvard professor has growed to meet with the police officer who arrested him in a racially fueled controversy. president obama is going to serve as referee. >> sit down. >> reporter: it appears a meeting will happen between president obama, a white police officer in massachusetts and the black professor he arrested. in an e-mail, professor gate said he would accept the offer. the e-mail said it's time for all of us to move on and assess what we can learn from this appearance. president obama took the unusual step of what may be called bar stool diplomacy because he helped fan the flames higher a few days ago when he said he acted stupidly. >> my sense is you got two good people in a circumstance in which neither of them were able to resolve the incident in the way it should have been resolved. >> reporter: they appreciate the gesture by the presidents and his willingness to reconsider his initial remarks. the president hopes it can be a teachable moment when everyone can stop pumping up the volume and take a moment to listen to each other. some members of the black community agree. >> this racially is something that need not take off and look and feel the way it is beginning to look and feel. >> reporter: officer crowley hopes to put this issue behind him and get life back to normal. >> after hiss arrest, gates contemplated a lawsuit and vowed to make a documentary on the larger problem of racial profiling. city police say sam moxley was involved in a multiple politician. it injured one person. the accident occurred in the 2000 block of west franklin street. he failed a field sobriety test. it's the second offense since 005. have some new developments in the murder investigation of steve mcnair. a grand jury says it will consider charges against adrian gilliam. he is accused of selling the gun two days before the crime. two montgomery county teenager haves been convicted for vandalizing their school. they set two small fires at springbrook high school earlier this year. the teenagers were arrested in april. they originally accused in a bomb plot. you may have seen a number of sailors out walking around. the hmas opened up for the public today. the sailors are on a six month deployment all over the world with special stops in baltimore. they will play a game of australian rules football. before that rain came through tonight, some children got to spend a great day out on the water. the easter seals organization took needs to be compared for. >> still no clear answer here. the speculation of a fourth child was raised when the 25- year-old sat at the front row of the singer's memorial in los angeles. some high surf 15 to 30 feet high. in tonight's eyewitness news health watch, the u.s. government has spent $2 billion on an expected vaccine. this total covers the cost for 195 million doses. this week, maryland saw its fourth swine flu related death. as the economy continues slumping and taking a toll on the nation. one service that some people are starting to do without sometimes is a trip to the dentist. dentists and volunteers are teaming up to help patients with little or no insurance. >> reporter: for months, cynthia right needed extensive dental area. she had no money and and didn't know where to go until this weekend. >> i said i'm going to do in and get my self-esteem back up and take care of everything. >> reporter: for two days, dentists and volunteers teamed up to help patients with little or no insurance. experts say dentists are seeing a number of patients drop. some are out of work, some don't have insurances and others never had it. good prevention can safe dollars on costly care. >> the teeth are not separate from the body. 95% of dental disease can be prevented with just diet and home care. economicically it's so much cheaper than restoring teeth. >> reporter: that lesson for 12- year-old damote driver came too late. in 2007 the boy died after bacteria from a rotted tooth spread to his brain. he had no dental insurance and couldn't afford an 80-dollar extraction. >> that means you have a lot of people walking around could be seriously ill and not even know it. >> reporter: more than 100 volunteers give their time and expeer tease to help during a two day program. >> part of our focus is educate the people to help them maintain the teeth they have. >> reporter: and keep their dollars in a slow economy. >> the dentists treated more than 150 patients. some nasa officials right here in maryland got a rare glimpse of the collision on planet jupiter. they got a look from the telescope at the object that plunged into jupiter. official says the size of the impact is rare. it's the size of several football fields. nasa says the new images prove the repairs done on hubble in may were successful. they still don't know how this happened or what it is. >> it's fascinating. >> a lot of space happening out there in space. this is what we've got going on. severe thunderstorm warning in effort for carolyn county, queen anns county until 11:30. this is the line of thunderstorms that has been moving through and producing hail along the way. generally, the largest we have been seeing the about three quarters in size hail also producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour when it was at its peak. on that back of that little section, we have mainly rain. we do have some rounds of heavy rain starting to let up in bel aire right now but not quite yet in port deposit. all of this is moving off to the northeast. at this point, there's a couple of isolated thunderstorms out there. what we saw earlier, there is another round coming our way. let's switch it over and show you severe thunderstorm warnings that we have in effect. the lighter counties is where the heavier rain is going through at this point but no warning at this point. earlier today we started out with sunshine mixd with clouds. for a few different reasons. there's a front approaching from the west. this isn't even the front yet. that is still out to the west. we will be dealing with it tomorrow. the winds have turned around to the south and pulling up a lot of moisture and warm temperatures. at this point we're only coming in at 70 degrees. that's what some of the thunderstorm haves been fueling off of. temperature wise we did get to 90 degrees before the thunderstorms came through, actually above average. we have nod had that much this season. for the next few days, we will get a similar pattern where temperatures are at or above average. we have a few more chances of thunderstorms coming our way. on and off tonight the chance for a few thunderstorms. most of the thunder will start too wind down. the showers will continue and there could be a couple of thunderstorms mixed in there but not as strong as they are right now. tomorrow and monday we will see the threat for thunderstorms. it will be on tuesday before another wound round comes our way wednesday into friday w. that being the case, small craft advisory still in effect out on the waters. we are going down to about 70 degrees. pretty much where we are right now. not much changed from that. going up to 90 for our high tomorrow and then still the threat for some thunderstorms monday. there still is a chance on tuesday but not as high as it this is humiliating. stand still so we can get an accurate reading. okay...um...eighteen pounds and a smidge. a smidge?
