betty good morning to you. one of the topics that will likely be seen tonight in the debate is mitt romney's wealth. on top of not immediately releasing the tax record, he also admitted that he has part of his millions invested in an off shore account. this couldn't come at a worse time and another candidate is gaining ground. mitt romney is fighting to hang on to his lead in south carolina. >> if i'm president, i will repeal obama care and get us back to free market principles. >> he tried to fire up voters at a rally last night before attacking newt gingrich. >> him taking credit for the jobs created during the reagan years is like al gore saying he invented the internet. >> rom nis lead is slipping to ten points down from 19 points two weeks ago. the two have a chance to go head to head at the debate the final one before saturday's primary. gingrich is warning voters to be on the lookout nor smear ads. >> i fully expect the romney campaign to be unendingly dirty and dishonest for the next four days because they're desperate. they thought they could buy this. >> president obama isn't waiting for roopd to pick their nominee. his team purchased advertising time in at least six states. the first tv commercial airs today. >> secretive oil billionaires attacking president obama with ads fact checkers say are not tethered to the fact. >> the 30-second spot fires back at charges the president took money from solyndra in exchange for a large federal loan. it emphasizes his creation of clean energy jobs. >> president obama kept his promise to toughen ethics rules and strengthen america's energy economy. >> the president will court voters in two states today. he'll visit florida and then to new york city. meanwhile, newt gingrich could have another problem to deal with today. an interview with his second wife airs tonight. it's part of gingrich's past that could turn off religious voters. a key electorate in costa concordia. >> thank you, terrell. the final certified results from the iowa caucuses are expected to be released today. immediately after the vote, iowa's republican party announced that mitt romney was the winner but just eight votes over rick santorum. but discrepancies were discovered and when all is said and done x santorum may end up the winner. we'll stay on top of that for you. herman cain plans to en make an endorsement today in the race. cain is speaking at the southern republican leadership conference in south carolina. cain told msnbc, his endorsement would be "unconventional." back to president obama's campaign ad. it defends his energy policy and addresses job creation. the ad follows yesterday's decision by the administration to reject for now a job producing oil pipeline. now, that decision is creating a stir on the campaign trail. bigad shaban has the report. >> the proposed 1700-mile pipeline would have stretched across six states, linking western canada to oil refineries on the texas coast. but president obama rejected it. saying he felt rushed to make a decision because of an arbitrary deadline set by congressional republicans to review the plan. environmentalists had already objected to it. >> it's not enough time. we don't even have an alternate route identified yet. how could anyone possibly review it. >> both parties agreed to a february 21st deadline as part of last month's deal to he can tend the payroll tax cut. fallout over the president's rejection is spilling on to the campaign trail. >> this is a stunningly stupid thing to do. we need the jobs. maybe when they're unemployed in november, they'll figure out -- >> reporter: oklahoma's governor says rejecting the plan by the company trans canada will cost the state roughly $1 billion in new investments and 1200 construction ship disaster off the italian coast. this morning divers have resumed the search of the capsized ship. the operation had been suspended after the ship moved wednesday. 11 people are known to have died when the costa concordia slammed into a reef and capsized. 21 are still missing. in new audio tapes, the captain of the ship said he never meant to abandon his passengers but was thrown in the water. rough seas stopped the search and postponed efforts to remove the ship's fuel. in minnesota last night, a vigil was held for a missing american couple. >> thy kingdom come. >> hundreds gathered to pray for jerry and barbara heil. their son is holding out hope. >> we still have hope. we have hope for anything that will come. whatever god's plan is, we're at peace with that. >> the costa >> yes. yes. >> but now employees like bates are shaking their heads at how boeing's treated their hometown. >> you lose respect for those people who can't keep a consistent story. it's not just about employees. it's about a community. >> in 2008, boeing asked kansas officials to help win a $3.5 billion contract for 18 air force tankers. wichita's mayor, carl brewer, says kansas had a long history of coming through for boeing. >> they've received $650 million in tax breaks over the last 30 years. >> that is an awful lot of money. we thought that that really meant something. >> brewer and the kansas congressional delegation lobbied the pentagon hard. in return, boeing promised the tanker work would be kept in wichita, saving 2100 jobs and creating 7500 more. >> and somebody looked you right in the eye and said, we're going to be in wichita? >> going to be in wichita and it's going to be just like it's been for the past 84 years. >> all that lobbying paid off. boeing was awarded the $3.5 billion contract last february. no one here heard another word until november when boeing suddenly announced it was rethinking its plans. the company decided its production costs in wichita were too high. it was moving the tanker work out of kansas to other u.s. plants and was closing its wichita operation next year. do you feel duped?
